What a Nancy society we live in today. "Everyone gets a trophy!"; "We are all #1!"; "We are all just as important as the other!" - what a load of bull$#!+. This is sports. Coach would be remiss if he failed to explain: "some win, some lose". A player on the bottom asked to leave isn't being shorted by the team, it is because he has not delievered what was expected. This notion that 'doing your best' is enough is for socialists. Some win, some lose. Aztecs are winners. If you let the end of the bench pile up with non-performers, you'll have one big happy family of - non-performers. AW or LBF or whomever understands that if Pelle is coming, someone on the other end of the bench has to get up and walk out the tunnel. Game over. This is sport. Everyone on the Mesa wants to win...that's not the point...the point is winning with class... In your world it would be perfectly fine for Coach Fisher to doctor grades...or never graduate anyone...it would be all about winning at all costs...or in this case reneging on a commitment to a young man who committed to us. Sorry...but that's not the team I want to follow... I want the Aztecs to win more than anyone...but winning with class...

I also want to add that if it becomes a policy to force kids on scholarship out, that could be very detrimental to recruiting. We still aren't at the point where the majority of our team will be NBA talent leaving in a couple years. These kids and their families will still want the security of knowing that they can have a 4 year education here. While you aren't going to make that promise 100% true, adding doubt in a parents eyes as to how secure their child's future will be could definitely hurt recruiting.

I will be very happy to field teams much as we are doing now and never force anyone out the door. Some may want to leave to get playing time and some kids are here for the right reasons; a degree and a future that is not about NBA stars in their eyes. I really would not like to be like Kentucky if it means all the shady stuff.

It looks like we are out of the running for this kid. However ... Anthony January scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and hit the game clinching FT's with 13 seconds left to beat Crenshaw by 1 advancing to the City Section Championship game. I know we don't have any scholarships, and we don't want to force anyone out and we're absolutely stacked at the forward ... but I'm still hoping this kid preps for a year and ends up at SDSU. californiapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1336068

It looks like we are out of the running for this kid. based on what? Based on the fact that we're currently out of scholarships for 2012. Based on the fact that we already have 4-5 players that can play his position and that are possibly better or more experienced. Based on the fact that we had him if we wanted him ... but instead we just got a commit from a higher rated forward for our final scholarship for 2012. We need to let Pelle and January go and move on to the 2013 class. If that's where January ends up ... maybe we still have a shot. But we simply don't have any more scholarships in 2012.

And yet we are still recruiting him. Are we for sure? Ask EL or the coaches.

Do you know the answer or is this a serious suggestion? No malice at all intended here, I just didn't know if your post was serious or sarcastic.

HERE IS THE ANSWER IN PLAIN ENGLISH:
We are STILL recruiting January as of today, and he will more than likely go to prep school for a year and sign for the 2013 class.
We are STILL recruiting Pelle, and you can bet if he wants to come here for 2012, the coaching staff will find room.

I have a hard time believing he will go the prep school route when all recent info indicates he is now on track to qualify (unless those are just rumors)... I have zero inside info though and certainly would be elated for this to actually happen. He would have a bigger impact for us in 2013, imo.
I believe he is better and may have more potential than Jamaal Franklin. Same level of athletcism but taller, longer and a better shooter. Its all up to him though as far as how good he will be (I think he can/will be a Pro)...one serious intangible on Jamaal is that he is a gamer and a ferocious competitor which I will also take any day of the week.

Has AW#0 not played in 4 of the last 5 games. Can you imagine him as a TE for Rocky -

So he will be better than 31 pts and 16 boards in the biggest game of the season? Jamal has freakish jumping athleticism, a long reach, good touch around the rim, great defense, and perhaps most important he is clutch...but on the flip side he has a so-so jumper because it has a hitch, so-so handles, and mediocre passing game. If January can bring the same I would be happy. If he brings more we will officially have graduated into a basketball powerhouse university.

From what I have seen in person of Anthony January... his skill set right now would have significant impact on this year's team. Right now, Jamaal is the better player, no question. I just think January has all the tools in the world to shine, but of course, its on him. He is a great rebounder and a very versatile player and he really does have a nice looking J and mid-range game.
Jamaal has exceeded expectations and is proving to be a great player. His determination is second to none.
In short, Anthony January as a senior > Jamaal Franklin at the same age. In my opinion, of course. I do not see January really taking a lot of minutes from guys next year as a freshman though. Not enough minutes to go around on the wing.

A former player for Fisher at SDSU was not asked to leave, but Jeff Berokoff, who I played with in High School told me he left because Fisher told him his scholarships stands and that he would keep that commitment to him. But that he would get next to nothing in terms of time on the floor, thus he transferred to Biola.

Yeah this is exactly what I posted earlier about the situation on what would happen with a current player or two.
