I am very concerned about hoops with this move. I know football is the breadwinner, but for me it is the SDSU basketball season I enjoy most. I was thinking the same thing but we should now be able to get big east schools to come to Viejas to help make up for it.

I didn't say AQ wasn't a factor, but AQ $ is nothing compared to TV $$$. AQ is fading away, and Boise still gives the BE creditability in the discussion. If SDSU can improve, and keep in step with Boise, both will have a good shot when the next conference shake out happens. so 6 mil tv revenue a year is enough to sell the basketball team down the river? Who is selling down the river? We still have the National Coach of the year We still have Viejas We still have The Show A couple of years in the BW, and (hopefully) schedule home & homes with BE basketball powers, won't kill basketball until a better option pops up. In fact games with UCONN or Louisville will give basketball more exposure. what if in 2015 UNLV gets sick of the "Alliance". SDSU, Boise, UNLV, UNM start a basketball only conference, or Louisville bails the BEast and we bring in UNLV. A lot can happen

Gee, my High School gym holds more for a BB game than Cal St. Northridge!
But, keep in mind the only time you will see those gyms is if you go to away games otherwise our home games will still be in Viejas where it is big and comfortable!

Is there any chance that Northridge, Fullerton, etc., are planning new basketball arenas? After all, we were stuck with either Peterson (on campus but way to small and antiquated) or the S.D. Sports Arena (not on campus and generally unloved locally) not too many years ago and finally built something bigger and better.

How do the gyms in the WCC compare?
Look, everything is a gamble now. What options do we truly have?

You all are freaking off your rocker.
How many of our fans were a the NM game last season during our BEST SEASON EVER? DJ simply torching a very good team.
Answer: about 65. TOTAL. I was there. I know. Those who were there know.
You guys are kidding yourselves. It's totally sad.
We're all sad were losing a UNM team that we have caught and surpassed in the past 11 years and an UNLV team who admittedly has a great program who we will miss. NM has a nice arena, great fans, and a program that has never made it to a genuine NIT final four or NCAA sweet 16 in over 20 years.
We're realistically talking about one nationally significant program here. That's it.

Lol....I could only imagine the shellshock BYU will get once they start WCC play. 22,000-seat Marriott Center compared to, what, 6,000 for the largest gym in the conference?

AWESOME!!! Now SDSU can have home court advantage in every single game we play in. Aztec fans will take over all those gyms. Plus, we will have regular OOC games with Big East schools and continue to play UNLV. In addition, we will actually have more money and exposure with a new basketball television contract. And I almost forgot!... we will save a ton of money for all of our other non-revenue sports in travel costs and our fans can go to nearly every game.
Can't wait!
Go Aztecs!

Pacific (Capacity 6150) Look at all those banners they have...how can that not be legit program? Believe it or not Pacific actually has one more NCAA tournament bid than we do... they have 8 we only have 7. It must be all those extra cardio workouts with the dance team!

Picture of the likely minimum increase in cash to the program

With this new cash, we can tear down Viejas and put an on-campus football stadium in its place. Basketball can play their games in Peterson gym - it seats 3668, which fits nicely with the Big West footprint.

It does not matter one bit. Gonzaga plays in a League of Band Boxes, and has built a program of National cerdibility. SDSU will continue to play at least half it's games in arenas holding 10K +.
And need I point out that one of the most prestigious College basketball tournaments of the past 30 years is played in a high school gym? The Maui Invitational.
How about a picture of that gym?
College hoops can be played on the deck of an aircraft carrier, and people would show up. And it would be watched on TV by millions.
The capacity of Big West Arenas is a moot point.
Onward to the 2013 Final Four.

Big West games are almost completely off the national radar (unless a team like Long Beach State upsets a team like Pittsburgh, then they're a blip at best). Try to spin it however you like, but a move to the Big Worst would be a big step down for SDSU. There is no glossing over it for those who know college basketball.

There is no way I can put my negative feelings about this into words.

I can't quite seem to pinpoint why but Pacific's gym doesn't look bad. I was waiting for someone to comment on that pic. I wanted to find a picture that showed the bleachers in all the arenas. This one came with a bonus. ;D Did you spell the word, "bonus" correctly?? HAM
