They’ve only been bad for 2 years. Right before that they made 5 straight Sweet 16s. They are still seen as a very high profile program. We can offer what, 100k maybe. If Michigan is at $1 mil I think almost everyone would pick that unless they come from a wealthy family. No guarantee you’ll have a pro career so making what you can in college does make a lot of sense. I think it's guaranteed he has a pro career. Maybe not NBA, although that's not out of the question, but at least overseas. I don't know for sure that he comes from a wealthy family, but I know Moraga is an affluent community. You're throwing out complete guesses as to how much money Michigan can offer and how much SDSU can offer. These NIL figures people are throwing out are complete conjecture. I don't think almost everyone one would pick Michigan in this situation. Depends on what's important to you and how you want to spend two years of your life. I lived in Walnut Creek for 9+ years and worked in Lafayette for 7+ years... and I can attest to the fact that Moraga, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Alamo (uber-wealthy), Danville, Orinda etc etc are all very wealthy areas. Doesn't exactly mean his parents/family are 'really' wealthy... but I would make the assumption that they are certainly comfortable. I feel players should go for the big $$$ if they can. And while we don't know numbers, we can all agree that Michigan can 'buy' him if they want to. Also, it is not up for argument that a degree from Michigan carries A LOT more weight than a degree from SDSU. And Ann Arbor is an incredible college town. And now the important part... I would LOVE to have him as an Aztec for 2 years!

It’s not even a 2 year commitment anymore. NCAA just today officially approved the rules for unlimited no-sit transfers. More players will not get their degrees which will cost them in the long run. Too bad, but big time college athletics has little to do with education. I read a few years ago about how many NBA players file bankruptcy within 5 years of leaving the league. It was astounding. Matt Bradley came back for his senior, at least in part, to get his degree. Butler, LeDee, Mensah, Arop, Seiko all come to mind when it comes to taking advantage of what they were offered. Frankly, I'd rather have a team loaded with guys like that than someone who will be chasing the biggest paycheck every year.

Here's a new prospect to watch for Aztec Basketball: Kris Parker, a versatile SF/SG standing at 6'9" 195 lbs. Coming from Crossroad Academy in Florida, Parker entered Alabama as a four-star recruit. Despite showing improvement during fall practices, the coaching staff opted to redshirt him, keeping him off the court for the season. In high school, Parker had impressive averages of 24.8 points and 14.2 rebounds per game, showing his potential on the court. HS - Highlights www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PE2B0o66f0

I just caught the announcement this morning on X (Twitter.) Seydou Traore G/F is listed as a 6'7" 215 swingman from the Manhattan Jaspers. Despite being a freshman, he's played 28 games averaging 32 minutes per game, shooting 43% from the field, only 26% from three-point range, and 80% from the free-throw line. He's putting up impressive numbers with 11.2 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. He's a stat stuffer, but I'm unsure where he'll fit into the lineup or rotation, especially since we only have two scholarships left to offer.
Said to be a tenacious rebounder and a three-level scorer.
Schools include: San Diego State Georgetown Temple Tulsa Florida State Clemson North Texas Vanderbilt Saint Louis Richmond Minnesota Oregon Ole Miss VCU FAU New Mexico State Syracuse

From my understanding, they have been offering recruits more NIL money than us. Dusell left behind the majestic mountains of Laramie and the heat and dust of California's central valley, it's now time to surrender to the rhythmic melody of the Pacific Ocean. The salty breeze beckons, promising sandy shores and an endless bikini horizon. As he ventures towards the coastline, the mountains fade into memory, replaced by the expansive beauty of crashing waves and sun-kissed babes of San Diego State, for books, balling, and beaches. It's how you sell it that makes a difference, who needs Reno/Tahoe and 10 feet of snow and maybe a bigger NIL purse? According to Aztec Tracker on X (Twitter), Dusell is officially out. Which I hope is good news for the Aztecs & Nick Boyd. Crossing my fingers (until the next PG hits the portal) I like Boyd in the Trammell role, similar player, but 6 inches taller, a tough defender, & good shooter.

We need a PG that can shoot and Boyd would will that need. I just saw on Aztec Analytics X feed that Byrd and Saunders were referring to him as a teammate so this sounds promising.

What a difference the NIL makes. Every so often I fantasize what our team make-up might have been the last two years without NIL and if we were in the PAC12. I can't even fathom how well we might have done with the players wanting to come here along with Dutcher's coaching and recruiting. Oh well.

Interesting that Boyd was considered a Sophomore this season even though he started playing in the 2020-2021 season, so he will be an OLD junior next year AND still have another year left, so that is a big positive (started same year at Butler). He didn't play 2021-2022 season but still gets a COVID year.

With the way our roster is pretty well set, I wonder if Dutch might just go across town for a younger guy like Kevin Patton Jr. from USD. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5176443/kevin-patton-jrOnly a rising Soph, he should be okay with a chance to learn from Waters, Byrd, etc. while providing meaningful depth at SF/SG. Then have a chance to be a starter his Jr & Sr years.

Anybody heard of any other prospective transfers to fill our open scholarship? I haven’t seen anything at all.

correct another rule that benefits the P6 and or richer schools over non P6
IMO one of the rules that did benefit schools that do not get One and Done players was the Covid / extra year for players - who are usually the 5 star type of recruits
SDSU had a large portion of the MM Finals team that was loaded with players getting a 5th year - Nathan - Matt - Seiko - AG and then this past year Ledee - DT - Pal
Belive this up coming year could be close to being the last year - could ask opinions of allowing players who are entering Grad school the option of getting the 5th year?

We recruited him out of high school and his dad played at SDSU. Yes please Per the Illinois website this would be their 5th player to transfer out. So, obviously it’s not just us losing players. Illinois was very successful last year and I’m guessing also has a lot of NIL money… unfortunately it’s the simply the new norm of college athletics which is too bad. Don’t bother learning players 1st names … if they’re good they’re gone, if they’re bad they’re gone.

We recruited him out of high school and his dad played at SDSU. Yes please It almost assuredly has zero percent chance of happening... buy holy crap, Coleman would be a massive upgrade over Elijah.

Pick a big number less than zero and that's our chance. He'll be cruising into, at least, the high 6 figures.
