At the end of Mark Z. write up in the U.T. about last nights game against East Carolina he mentions the fact that the student section was only 2/3 full. He also cited the fact that Viejas is sold out for the season and the seats went unused.
During the game against El Cajon Christian there were at least ten to twenty Christian students or fans sitting in the SDSU student section, cheering their asses off for Christian. Not one person from the "Show" said anything to these people. Like why don't you go sit in the visitors section or something to that effect. I wonder if that happens at Camron Indoor, and the "Camron Crazies" would say nothing to the opposing teams fans sitting in their section.
I find the "Shows" show lacking in spirit and enthusiasm so far this season. If the "Show" wants to be recognized as the best student cheering section in college basketball they need some new spirit and energy.

Do we know if all of the student tickets were distributed? Also, are classes still in session? I haven't gone to school in over a decade so I don't know what the Thanksgiving week schedule is at SDSU.

Huge supporter of The Show. So far, the worst early season cumulative showing in years. Bottom 12 rows or so remain great, for the most part. Overall though, pretty bad showing from the students so far this year. If we didn't have Kansas coming in, this would be the worst non-conference home schedule in a decade or so. That has something to do with it. Christian, BIOLA, Little Rock, East Carolina, Grand Canyon and Nicholls State is on par with Football's home non-conference schedule. Just uninspiring.

I really like Zeigler's work. But I think he was off base a little in criticizing the student section a this point in the season. It looks like, to me, that the student section is fuller than the rest of the arena. I agree that more students should be showing up, but more of our season ticket holders should be showing up as well. But, I think that percentage wise the students are slightly ahead. I don't believe there is any way they are significantly behind.

Campus is closed for classes from Wed. through Fri. this week, so undoubtedly many made the decision to disappear from campus for 9 days by missing only 2. This obviously would have taken some of the energy away from the campus generally and certainly lowered the Saturday and Monday turnout by students. Prior to Saturday against Little Rock, the student turnout had been quite good, I thought. Now, the fact that the front page of The Show's own web site still features a Jamaal Franklin send-up..... Well that's another matter. Sort of hard to believe. Even just a photo of The Show would be better. theshowsdsu.com/

IMO they should no longer allow students to attend games. They're loud, obnoxious and have too much school spirit. How athletics continues to allow this is beyond me.

Our crowds overall have been embarrassing. We're looking more & more like UCLA unfortunately. The student section hasn't been any better, but hopefully that changes by the start of conference play.
If not we will have gone from a great atmosphere to a pretty good one. But too early in the season to truly judge. Thus far we've just proven we're not the kind of fan base that can support the conference in non "name games" well any more.
It's a little sad that Fisher has to come on EVERY post game & ask those who weren't here to show up for the next game or give your tickets to someone who will. At this point in our program I wouldn't expect the coach to have to beg fans to attend games.
I do agree with Mark Z's insinuation about if the students don't want all their tickets there are plenty on the season ticket waiting list who do.

A lot of it has to do with the days the games are being played this year. Only two Saturday games in the OCC schedule with both having an early start time. Monday and Friday nights don't work out for our students and fans. A lot of people in SD would rather stay at home to watch the game to avoid that nasty grid lock on Monday and Friday nights. Friday nights are reserve for high school football, happy hour for the working class, and frat activities for SDSU students. Let go back to playing games on Saturdays @ 5pm when the FB team is on the road. I wouldn't mind having double header when the FB team is in town (3PM basketball and 7:30PM football). The last three years we have dwendle down the amount of Saturday games for OCC. At the rate we are going we will have zero Saturday games next year.

The school should help create THE SHOW Student Association. The student association can then conduct meetings throughout the year to organize itself. Members of this student association could have ticket priority. I know many people who buy student tickets day of from students who never intended to go to the game. I am sure a lot of the non-used tickets are exactly that. Has Viejas been checking student IDs at the gate this year?

A little healthy criticism is fair. There have been enough comments / observations over the past few years to suggest that The Show has been dropping off a bit. The point about the ("extended") Thanksgiving break is very true, however. If The Show continues to fail to impress during conference games... then yeah, maybe some Showlumni can bust some heads and help them get their act together?

Since you asked specifically for Duke, in these early season games, Duke's student section is never filled. It's the best time to grab seats if you are just wanting to check out Cameron. I went for an Elon game, and was in the Duke student section, and so were a few Elon guys. No one complained, because the opponent wasn't big. Of course, the big OOC games, and especially conference games, that won't happen, but I don't typically see that as a problem for us either.

I will say that I was able to buy tickets from a third party ticket broker for 3 of the first 4 games. I bought tickets from $6 to $20, and the seats were in good locations. Unfortunately, I went to at least 4 other brokers' websites, and there were hundreds of tickets available for each game. Part of me was happy to go to the games for a bargain, but the other part was really disappointed that there were so many available in the first place.

Fisher seemed pleased with the crowd. I'd disagree. He always says we have a wonderful crowd & thanks the crowd, but every game this year he's said we need more people to show up, asking for those with tickets who can't make it to give their ticket to someone who can.
He didn't use to have to say that after every game.
