I'd love to see Fish & co. land Shaqquan Aaron. He was a top 30 player out of HS, allegedly Pitino really had problems with him and his attitude. Perhaps, FISH would give him a second chance and open up his PT. Right now he is being courted by WA, OR and USC and has So Cal roots. Could be a personality clash with Pitino or the kid feels he deserves minutes regardless of his work ethic......depends who one wants to believe. If coach thinks he would be a good fit here, he still will have to earn his minutes. I am sure coach will tell him that and we will see if he puts in the time and effort while sitting out a year. I am all for second chances but there are not too many gimmies around here.

Go ahead, call me selfish. My wish list includes Cage AND Kone. In fact, those could become two of my favorite four letter words, along with Pope & Kell.

I'm not as high on Kone as others I guess. Just doesn't seem as mobile as our other bigs, but then again, maybe we could use a bruiser. Shaqquan Aaron would be a solid pickup, maybe got served some humble pie at Louisville and is ready to work.

I think a slightly "less athletic" 5 (and it's FAR from the case that Kone is *not* athletic) who has a bit more of a developed inside game could be an enormous benefit to how the Aztecs could evolve the offense.

Recruit Ben Kone 6'9' 225 lbs. led Mitty to the section 2 CIF championship game 20 ppg, 12 rebounds , 2 assists,1 block ,58% FG . In his last three games averaged 25 points and 18 rebounds . Top player in the San Jose area . 2nd team All CA . Can play the 5 or 4 position , either back to the basket or facing it . A need for the 2016 Aztec team . Definitely an athletic player. Aaron is also an athletic 3 or 2 player .
Hoetzel was the 10th player on the I U team . The team averaged close to 80 points a game . He averaged 2 points a game . He and the other I U players are a very poor defensive team , read the clip about him. He did most of his scoring early against the weaker OOC teams not much in Conference play. He is a role player . Time to stay with a faster paced offense that we could see goinging forward. D.Allen contributed more as a true freshman then Max did .Correct Shrigley did not shoot or score the true freshman year he red shirted.
We have 11 scholarship players for 2015 , 12 if Nolan wants to come in for 2015 . He chose us over others , and was told either 2015 or 2016 worked for us, so NO you do not tell him what year to come join us .
2016 , we have 8 players , Biggest needs are still guys down low at least 2 or 3 physical athletic guys , plus a SF , Plus a guard . That makes 11 or 12 guys . I would have 11 possibly 12 IF all the guys are potential starters . As the team has learned you want to save 1 or 2 possible slots for transfers .
So for the 3 or max 4 scholarships , choose wisely . Cage for sure IF we can sign him . Nothing concrete we can sign him.So Also need Kone down low at 5/4 . Then Bailey SF , if we have a chance , , Aaron if he is the best opportunity to sign as SF/SG . Guard Cyrus or Moore, That could put us at 11 or 12 . Suggest that we keep a scholarship or 2 open , just in case .

I have a lingering fear that the Max numbers Hoetzel will achieve as an Aztec will be his GPA. Pass.

Hoetzel would be a very nice 20 MPG shooter here.

Hoetzel would be a very nice 20 MPG shooter here. By his Jr/Sr year, I agree. Maybe 15+, unless of course we have consistently great recruiting every year moving forward.
Given skill set, definitely worth consideration. Kid can shoot. Would need to improve defensive skills but that's what a RS season allows you to do.

Would prefer Aztecs find out where we stand with Cage , Kone , Bailey , Aaron . You may also want to look at the clip in the Narain post( in this recruiting section ,) he can also shoot from the outside . You may also notice under the basket is Coach Fisher watching Narain . Wonder if we can get Cage and Kone if we add Max . Also Bailey or Aaron. All are more valuable then Max So we are ready to use a scholarship on a guy who we hope may play 15 or even 20 minutes as a junior/ senior ? Lacks defense and the athleticism of the other recruits . He only scored 30 points during BIG Conference play , so where is he the more important SCORER that we need ? Would hope we can do better .

Like we did with Chol, or Polee or many others who played 15-20 minutes as a junior and/or senior. Do you think DA plays more than 15 minutes a game next year as Junior? Don't see you wanting to pull his scholarship. If you believe a kid will at ANY TIME DURING HIS CAREER be in the rotation he is worthy of a scholarship. Many get scholarships & rarely if ever play.
And no, having him will have no impact on getting Cage, Kone, Bailey or anyone else individually, just like having Shepard or DA didn't keep us from getting Pope, or Jones/Zylan didn't keep us from getting Norain. The only thing it'd avoid is getting ALL FIVE in one class.
Do you think getting Norain keeps us from getting Cage?
I doubt it'll be Aaron AND Hoetzel, unless the coaches are very certain Norain will be 2016, but there's no guarantee we get Aaron. Don't even think we're considered near a front runner. You need options, and you don't want 2 empty scholarships this year. Hoetzel is a good option, as is balancing out your classes.
Norain has a nice shot but don't see him anywhere in the category of Hoetzel. We have no idea if Norain's outside game will even transfer over to college ball, whereas we have a very good idea with Hoetzel. 2 very different players; very different roles.
Hoetzel was in the rotation as a FR at a good program, and played behind a terrific talent in Troy Williams. It's no surprise he didn't get PT.
BTW, good shooters are SCORERS, unless they stop giving points for 3 point shots. As for defense, he appears to be well coached & fundamentally sound, and see him as someone who can work & improve his D'. He played on young team & didn't play all that much - don't put IU's lack of team defense on him.
You wouldn't want this guy spotting up for 3's? (btw, check at the 1:45 mark on the O-boards; or the ball handling/pass at 3:25; or athleticism at 5:02)

We don't need another white shooter that can't shoot. I say Fisher's offers him a scholarship just to meet the white player quota, as he doesn't bring anything on the court that takes us to the next level.

Would prefer Aztecs find out where we stand with Cage , Kone , Bailey , Aaron PS. If they like Aaron more, I'm sure they'll wait on him, but no way we'll know Cage, Kone or Bailey are coming here before needing to make a decision on Max. Plus, different recruiting classes....no need to wait.

Some other information . Max only made 4 threes during the whole BIG conference season . 1 in the last 11 games of the conference season. the last game they played as they lost in the BIG T . His highest scoring of the season was their first OOC game against a lower level team. I U coach when he signed him last year felt he was behind in defense but felt he would improve . hoped he would be a good shooter for them . As we know there is a big difference in a shooter and scorer . I U was over the 13 scholarship limit , but now that Max has left they are at the limit , so did he leave or what it being number 14 ? He wants to transfer close to home so his family can see him play and he get PT . So first priority is seeing where we can get sign the guys we hope will be major contributors . We have 8 guys . Add players first that you really need Cage , Kone or both C/PF. Bailey or Aaron as the SF . SG Moore (local) or Cyrus ( Narain's team mate ). If we do that we are at 11 or 12 . IMO you hold at 11 or 12 , in case you want to add a transfer or two . There is no rush to add a role player for 2016 .

Not sure why you're so obsessed with the stats of a FR who played behind a terrific player? You don't think FR improve, especially given more time ESPECIALLY with a RS year? Weren't you the one saying you thought Zabo deserved more time & would eventually contribute? What's to think Max won't? He was in the rotation on a good team as a FR - he played in most games, including conference, and had a terrific last conference game against Maryland in a tight game - 6 pts in 10 minutes.
There is no difference between a shooter and a scorer; there's a difference between a shooter & a slasher, but both are more than capable of being a scorer. Offenses use both, and IMO we have lots of slashers who are capable of scoring, but need shooters. Watching that Vid Max fits the bill.

Luckily-----NOT ONE WORD in this form is used by the staff in thier efforts for the team. All the ARM CHAIR FREE COACHING advise here is purely masturbatory.
