Think he has a lot of upside if he has his act together . Wonder if he is still coming to talk with the coaches . All depends on if the coaches and Aaron see SDSU as a fit and if there is a scholarship to give , after Max and what Narain is going to do be a 2015 or 2016 recruit . Did some one say Aaron played at Mater De , if so would be interesting to ask the Cage family their opinion of him . Aaron is still wanted by the Ducks , Huskies and possibly Zags. Also OSU has really made a lot of improvements in their team.
Maybe Max could walk on since he is an In state student .
Also wonder if Bailey has given the Aztecs any positive thoughts for coming here .

The coaching staff offered Hoetzel out of high school and have seen nothing to change their mind in this transfer. Good for us! Narain another great get! The possibility of adding Aaron COULD be another great get. The coaching staff will do due diligence on him and decide if he fits here and will do what's necessary to be the best player he can be. I'm all for second chances. I am sure a financial assistance deal can be worked out with one of them should Narain and Aaron both decide to join Hoetzel and enroll this year. I am for all 3 coming in this year, add Kone or Cage for next year and I would be a pretty happy camper.

If Narain reclassifies Aaron will not have an scholly---unless another player transfers out. I would bet something can be worked out so all 3 could attend this year.

They would have to cut a scholarship player to have all three eligible for 2015 and to get to 13 scholly's. Then would all three Hoeztel, Aaron and Narain red shirt? leaving only 10 scholarship players? That all looks very unlikely. Hoeztel and Aaron would be required to red-shirt and Narain said if he re-classifed he would as well. There was also talk of Buddah Jones taking a red shirt, leaving 9 players? All of a sudden the situation becomes dire if there are injuries. Z is a great athlete but hasn't played 1 minute of D1 ball. There are high hopes for Pope, Shep, Shrigs and Kell, but will that off set losing JJ, AQ and Polee? I don't see FISH cutting DW or Dakarai to get all three players in and not to play for 2015. Thoughts?

Since Max transferred in, can we separate Shaquan and give him his own recruiting thread??

As far as I know, none of the 3 in question have signed a Letter Of Intent yet. If Narain decides to go for 2016 (I prefer him coming in this year ), we could sign Hoetzel,Aaron to scholarships for 2015? I think Hemsley,Jones,Narain,Hoetzel and Aaron would be a very very good class coming in.

Aaron is an intriguing talent. My concern is that he has gone to five different schools in the past five years. Only Jerome Habel had more schools on his resume, in recent memory. Red Flag?Without a doubt a red flag, especially when you add in the fact he was suspended for receiving illegal benefits and Pitino had troubles motivating him. Pitino isn't one to have issues motivating someone.
I'm sure his meeting with the coaches is going to be a lot more involved when it comes to being a good teammate than Hoetzel's. No doubt he's a talent, but a lot of talented players struggle to fit in (& he's never stayed long enough to fit in) & that can be even more magnified while redshirting, as they can feel separated from the team.
if he's had a reality check & is willing to pull himself together I do believe he can really help us, but definitely have concerns.
To bad he's not going to get SD weather while he's here. Instead he'll be getting Eugene/Seattle weather...
He didn't receive the benefits, his parents did.....he didn't do anything wrong. Parents receiving rent monies or some such during I believe his Freshman year at Mater Dei High School. That cost him 10 game suspension. His attitude however, MAY be a issue. If he can pass the Fisher test, I am all for getting him in the program.......I do believe in 2nd chances. Hope he would like to play for the Aztecs. I think he would get a good amount of minutes.

My thoughts on this is that it's the parents pushing the kid all through school especially after seeing that it was his parents who according to the NCAA report received illegal rent monies during his freshman year at Mater Dei High School. That cost the kid a 10 game suspension last season. You know how parents can be. They probably want the best for their son and were getting pulled in all directions as to which school to attend and ended up with 5. Who knows for sure. If he passes the Fish test and wants to play for the Aztecs.....welcome aboard young man.

That is definitely a concern. If there is just 1 thing here or there, much less a red flag but multiple issues is worrisome, whether it's him, his family, or the people he hangs around. It's all drama, and some tend to have drama follow them & others don't.
Any time a coach of the caliber of Pitino says something like: “I don't know about that one. Don't know. I haven't seen enough to like yet. It's a wait and see. He came in late. He's got a bad body. He's not thrilled with the weight room, just until the last month he got serious about it. He needs a makeover.” That's a CONCERN.
I agree - believe in 2nd chances, but still doesn't mean there aren't red flags. I do think players are more apt to change when told it's their last chance, but sometimes a zebra just has their stripes. I'm sure the staff and players will vet him well.

That is why I'm a "In Fish I Trust" kinda guy. As I mentioned, his attitude/work ethic is a red flag and will leave the matter in the good hands of our coaching staff. Good enough for Fish et al........Good enough for me.

The name of the game is getting to SW16 , E8 or better . To do that you need top 50 players . we do not always get that many opportunities to get guys that can create shots and score . We got Malik last year because we believed in him , Kansas did not , after the injuries. We tried to recruit Aaron out of HS , so we saw things that we liked , many ways similar in athletic ability to Malik . He had problems , if we show him we care and our behind him , he could be our scorer after Malik leaves . If he is here and red shirting , then the coaches have the read on him and if there is a problem he is gone . On the up side a top #30 player we would not have gotten . He is very athletic can create his own three off the dribble can play SF/ or SG . Do not see the down side , use the red flags as motivation , he will . Do we have Cage on board , Bailey or .... Another post says McCoy does not have us in his top level of teams .

Another post says McCoy does not have us in his top level of teams . Here's another way to look at it. Sometimes a kid rated in the top 50 by a service which is making a prediction off HS play ends up not being worthy of being a top 50 or even top 75 recruit. Other times kids who are not rated as highly end up being "top 50 worthy" when all is said & done. Putting an arbitrary # on whether you need a kid who's top 50 or top 75 or top 100 or top 125 is just that - arbitrary.
Is it good to have some "top 50" types? Sure. Must they all? No, because fit & the fact many develop later comes into play.
I agree - if he's vetted by the teammates & the staff & he comes here there is no downside. What I don't get is trashing on Hoetzel & deeming Aaron the chosen one. Based on their FR year and feedback from their respective coaches you'd be more apt to draw the opposite conclusion.
The staff wanted BOTH these players last year; now they have a chance to get BOTH.
Hope it happens.

Aaron is still taking the visit on Friday, why are you acting like it is an either or thing?
The Aztecs need many things to make deep runs into tourneys, top 50 recruits help, but they aren't the only thing that matter. I want Aaron too and by all accounts signing Hoetzel does not stop any pursuit of Aaron.
SDSU just like any other program needs to adapt and be able to adjust to the way they recruit, and it is evident they are. They recognize how much they struggled offensively and have made it a priority with Narain, Hoetzel, and Aaron would help there too. There is more than 1 way to score. I would love Aaron here but the more I have seen/read of Hoetzel the more I think he will fill a important bench role for us, not everyone is going to be a 30+ MPG star.

Don't sell Hoetzel short. He will be an impact player after his redshirt and could evolve into something even better. Looking at his highlights there is a lot to like.

Hoetzel's atheticism seems to be really underrated on this board. He is a good athlete and not someone that just sits at the three point line.
He has some legit bounce. Check the picture his dad posted on of Max's verical.

He looks deadly from three. Looks like he may need some room to launch it however because he starts his shot from pretty low on his body.
