Guess I'm in the minority on not wanting Aaron on the squad...talent not withstanding, he seems to be different than most players we pursue in having high character. That is part of the reason every player has had good things to say about our program...even Zabo on his way out the door put in a good word to Narrain. I trust our coaching staff. That's good enough for me. Link to UT Article From 5:18PM

Exactly. If Fish and Crew want him on the team so do I.

So far so good, Happy with Narain in 2016 and Hoeztel, Hemsley and Jones. Aaron would be icing on the cake.
From Ziegler in todays SDUT: "....Louisville transfer Shaqquan Aaron, a 6-foot-7 guard oozing with talent, visited with this parents on Friday and Saturday, touring campus, seeing Viejas Arena, viewing the construction progress of the basketball practice facility, sitting in Coach Steve Fisher’s office, sharing meals. Then he left, without committing to the Aztecs or politely declining....
He continued to consider other schools and last weekend came to SDSU, which has a history under Fisher of putting derailed careers back on track, of using the mandated year off to perform a makeover of body and mind. He left without committing or declining.
Now the wait begins."
I still think its worth the wait.

Also, at SDSU, basketball players are BMOC, while Trojan basketball players are FMOC (Forgotten Men On Campus). Boy is that true. If he wants immediate playing time in front of 500 fans a night he will go to U$C. If he wants to win and be a part of a "Team" and play in front of 12,414 every night he will come to SDSU. USC assistant coach Jason Hart was also Shaqquans coach at Taft HS.

So if Shaqquan Aaron decides USC (Please No) .....Do we try and encourage Narain to classify for 2015 or still chase another recruit Bailey?

Did Mr. Aaron actually PLAY @ Taft? NO!

Bailey has nothing to do with 2015 - we'll continue to go after him & others for 2016.

What's everyone think now on the recruiting of Shaqquan Aaron? He didn't commit to his old coach Jason Hart who is now assistant at USC during his April visit. Hart was the coach at Taft High School and got Aaron to transfer to Taft and was then ruled ineligible by the local CIF. Aaron missed his entire sophomore season. Hope he is still pissed about that and since he did not commit in April, we gave him a second option if those other mentioned schools are out of the running Oregon,Washington and Gonzaga. Hope the kid decides to come here, he won't find better coaches and fan base. Come join the Aztec Nation Shaqquan!

Gotta wonder how the existing Aztec contenders for the 2-3 positions would respond to a commitment from Aaron. Any minutes he gets will come from potential PT of TK, MS, DA and JH(perhaps to a lesser degree).

Shrigs & Allen will be seniors when Aaron is eligible again, and he'll need to earn minutes over them. Talented seniors with 4 years in the system can be a great equalizer, and we're not even sure Aaron would earn any time initially. Don't think either Kell or JH will be significantly impacted at all. Both are too talented to sit, so if Aaron earns time (eventually) it'd be when either Kell/JH would need to rest anyway, or at the #3 with both of them still on the court. My $0.02.

It's still the same proposition every year with Coach Fisher, you EARN your minutes from how you practice! You keep those minutes and get more by how you play in the games....I want the guys who practice best and then best game play to get the most minutes. I think everyone on the team knows how it works around here.

Love him or hate him...Pitino is still one of the most talented coaches in America in terms of recruiting and X's & O's...if he benches a kid for attitude and poor practice...it's gotta make me wonder if the kids turns out to be the second coming of someone like Evan Burns (a great amount of talent but just couldn't keep it together between the ears).
All the high school drama surrounding him only adds fuel to the fire...
I'm certain that the Aztec coaches wouldn't be wasting their time with a "lost cause" so there must be something there (besides a great jump shot)...
When a player comes to SDSU...it's more like joining a family than simply joining a team...I just hope that the chemistry continues...

Anybody know if Aaron has set any sort of a timeline for a commitment?

It would appear that the coaches put team chemistry above any individual player; as evidenced by various alleged high level transfers who have not been offered, even when they wanted to be Aztecs.

Pitino didn't pull any punches at all. Naturally I defer to Coach and the staff in this, just found it curious that one of the leading coaches in America basically called this kid lazy, not in shape at all and basically didn't care enough to do anything about it. At the same time though, getting rated as highly as he was in HS has to account for something, you don't get rated that highly by all three scouting services by being lazy.

If he was lazy and out of shape in high school, a hard working and in shape SA would have off the charts upside.

Has Rick Pitino ever made a bad decision then have to do some things to correct it and get back doing it a better way ? If he did not win games then he would not have been given multiple opportunities . So please do not pretend he is a Saint among the coaches or some of the others who "bend " rules . Have other players left the Cards also ?. Unfortunately if you win , you are automatically considered a good coach ( Coaches at Kansas , Kentucky, ....)
IMO it is important to get to the SW16 level or better , to do that you need high quality players . The coaches have vetted Aaron . Talked with people at Mater Dei and others . Decision made to bring him and offered him . If and very big If we can sign Aaron . Then Allen , Kell , Max , ,Shrigley ( who could be a grad transfer and play anywhere) can decide if they want to battle for PT or leave ,same thing they do every year and know the staff's job is to recruit the best players out there , to get to the highest level, same thing they do at every college in the US . Ask Max who was player #10 last year at IU , they went out and recruited better players for 2015 and he could have been #14 or #15 this year at IU ,so he left. If we can not sign Aaron then you can bet the Aztecs will be looking for the best SF available for 2016 class . Bailey or ... . So Allen , Kell , Shrigley need to show this year what they can do. JH is the PG , with DW as back up so doubtful Aaron is a threat there .

Narain has already mentioned that if he reclassifies he'll redshirt next season so to get him in as a 2015 and have him adjust to college life, be able to practice with the team AND still have 4 years left would be great. I think the coaches would love that but also won't pass on a talent like Aaron if they have the chance.

Practices will be tougher than a lot of their games if Narain & SA are Aztecs in the fall.
