Feeding the trolls? You guys are nuts. Coach played him nine minutes last night that is not enough for a player who is going to be a top 15 pick in the NBA. We need offense bad and Coach Fisher will not play him. I can care less about his defense. Does the coach worry about Kevin Durant's defense? No!If I was pope I would want to leave this team right away either go to the NBA or transfer. This is a joke man the way he does not play and when he plays there are no plays designedfor him. We are completely wasting him and his talents this year and he will be gone at the end of the season. Still not sure why Fisher wants to get all this talent, when he micromanages the offense and he does not let the guys talent show. He should be getting plays design for him the entire game! You clearly didn't watch the game. They in fact did design a play for him in the first half, isolating him against Boise's worst defender in the post area, which he converted. Otherwise, Pope played tentative and didn't attack the basket. He was also very poor fundamentally on defense, particularly on switches; a couple times, he was able to recover and/or help with 2 blocks. On the other hand, Kell did attack; unfortunately, his basketball IQ last night did not match his aggressiveness. Whatever dude! Keep defending this coaching staff all the time! They designed one play for him and he made the shot! How can he do much better when they play him nine minutes a game? he was one of two shooting one of the best players on our team gets two shots. That is extremely problematic!

The guy took two shots last night! Two shots! How is that even possible? That is absolutely terrible coaching on the offense of side the basketball! He was one of two from the floor last night.

Pope is a matchup nightmare. who do you want to take a shot on a set play? Feed JJ? Not if he has an athletic wing or 7 foot big on him. Shep? Isnt a good shooter. Id want pope. 7 footer guarding him? Drag him to the 3 pt line. Forward on him? he can elevate and shoot over. Guard on him? He can back them down. Fish needs to run the offense through him more. Shep aq and kell need to feed pope and chol.

Pope still makes very poor decisions with the ball. Albeit extremely talented, he's not someone you run the offense thru.
I'd have loved to have see him get more than 2 shots, he passed up a few and was tentative.
Plus, although the blocks were impressive dud people miss him getting burned a few times? Out of position.
We need him to score but to insinuate we should run our offense thru him rather than JJ is onsane.

Poor guy never gets the ball and never gets to play.

Of course he make some bad decisions because it is like walking on eggshells he is afraid to make a mistake and he will get benched. Our team needs offense and he can be a great score for us but Coach Fisher love the sit him on the bench. There are four other guys on the court that could help him out with the defense issues he has at times. We need his scoring bad!

He's never once been pulled due to offensive mistakes and the coaches have POUNDED it in him that he has freedom on O. The only reason he gets pulled is due to defensive lapses and bad matchups, and the basic fact others are playing better overall. You're only as good defensively as your worst defender. Anyone who follows the game and especially this team should know that. Apparently you dont. When someone has to cover for pope it only opens up his own man. He's a FR who hasn't played much in 2 years. He still gets hesitant, especially when bothered by quick defenders.

How are you so sure he's never been pulled because of his "offensive mistakes?" Have you talked to coach Fisher about it? Pope certainly doesn't play like he has "freedom on O," he plays tentatively. Like ctap, I think he plays tentatively because he's on a short leash and he's afraid he'll be benched. He's our best scoring option and he really doesn't have the freedom to impose his will. I'd like to see it because he has the potential to be our best offensive weapon while creating mismatches all over the court. His shooting percentage is pretty dang good and I'd like to see more of it! Also, who, exactly, is playing "better overall?" That's a ridiculous statement.

Fisher has referenced why Pope is and isn't playing several times, and talking to the coaching staff several times they echo it's not about his offense but mostly D. Having attended a few practices I've seen them pushing Pope on both ends, and I've heard Fisher and others tell him to take his shots when he gets them. They push him to do so. Just at watching the games you can see why and when he gets pulled, and it's not because he misses a good shot. WS and JJ, the 2 guys who play his positions the most, are far better players today on this team than Pope. They bring it on both ends, and don't get schooled off the dribble nearly as often as Pope and know where to be on the court. Especially defensively. They want to get Pope 20-24 minutes a game, but sometimes can't because of his woes defensively. he is getting better by the day, but he's still a FR who started very late this year.

Agreed he is raw and his defense is lacking but last night we needed someone who could score to stop runs. Shep and jj are limited in their offense game. Pope is dynamic. Fisher knows best but i do think we need some scroers in the base lineup.

Pope broke down on multiple occasions. was and JJ give us better odds of making stops. I'd love to have him on the floor, but he has to earn it on both ends. Disagree about WS and JJ. They are terrific players, especially JJ. I actually think our biggest issue offensively yesterday was JJ not being more aggressive. They didn't have anyone who could stop him. Fisher has said his "offensive" lineup includes Pope, AQ, JJ and Shrigs but he can't always go that route due to Defense. During the pregame event coach Velasquez said if we didn't see Pope on the floor as much as we'd hope it would be because of something we may not notice on the defensive end. His words proved true. I just rewatched the game and saw pope get torched. His footwork on D just isn't there yet, but it's better than it was a month ago. you don't stop runs giving up easy shots or putting them on the line.

Which shows the biggest problem it's Coach Fisher and his stubbornness. If he is going to start managing games like this that he better expect top recruits did not go to his school to play for him. I think the word is out right now. He has had some very good talent on this team over the last couple years and we still have not gotten far in the big tournament. Yes it's nice to finally be in the tournament but expectations rise. It is absolutely horrible coaching to see him because he is not as good at defense when he is an offense of stuff that we need. There are four other players on the court that can help him play defense they can give him extra help.

he looked very frustrated after he made a nice little spurt on offense then he got sat down again. We need to stop thinking defense first and start focusing on the offense for a change. This defense first mentality might allow us to an conference but will never allow us to get further than that. We are not built to win the conference anymore we are built to go deep in the tournament now and we are not ready.

Defense travels and defense wins tourneys are big and popular phrases for a reason. as for recruiting, these talented players all came here knowing they had to defend and it was the focus of the team. They still came, and others are still lining up to do so. The philosophy of this team has always been about excelling defensively. You don't change that for 1 player.

Additionally, the coach would get T'd up if he ran out on the court to holler at MP to shoot. The kid has huge talent, and has not developed it yet.

Every time down the floor is an opportunity for any player to make his mark on the game.
Fisher doesn't have to call plays for guys. The best players throughout his tenure, have made their own offense.
From Brandon Heath all the way to Xavier Thames.
It is more of an NBA offense than some wish to believe.

We lost the last few tournament because of our bad offense. Our defense was not going to win it for us. That is my point here we need to have a good defense and a good offense but it's time for Fisher to start focusing on the offense for a change.
