By the way, with all the negativity, including some from me ...
HUGE HUGE props to Pope, Shrigs and JJO. They were big time ballers with big time hearts tonight. Too bad not one other guy stepped up to help them.
We have so many guys who do virtually nothing or hurt us. Makes it tough when you're playing good teams.

Oh, we're going to win the reg season AND the conference tourney too? I'd say we're more likely to win neither. You can't shoot FTs this poorly, take this many bad shots , miss as many layups, and have as many unforced turnovers as we do and expect success in March. When you add in our very questionable BB IQ, it makes your statement unlikely. Those things will KILL US in March. Hope I'm wrong. I keep waiting for things to click, they haven't. We're not bad, we are certainly not good- not top 25 good. I have seen ZERO improvement in any of those areas this season. Very very disappointing. I disagree about winning the conference. Other than the New Mexico trip our schedule gets much easier, not so much for Wyoming and CSU. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. I hope you're right.

I also agree with all the teams flaws you have pointed out, but look at the shooting night CSU needed to barely win. There are a lot of bad teams in the MWC this year.

I love AQ, if he makes the shot he is a genius, clutch player. If he doesn't? It's not as easy as you thnk to get Pope or Shigs the ball at the end. CSU was playing crazy defense on them taking them out of the game. They were saying "find someone else to beat us". JJ had a wide open look and he has made plenty of those this year, just not tonight.

Payback coming in Viejas. Unless this pathetic officiating crew is calling the game....... Bet that some pathetic officiating crew will be calling the game. Still can't believe the foul call on JJO. So much for the concept of verticality not being a foul. Both announcers called it horrible, it was such as easy call, you just have to wonder how that guys calls that, and neither of the other 2 refs over turn them. JJO stood still, on toes, arms straight up, that's not a foul 10 out if 10 times.

There are a lot of bad teams in the MWC this year. True, but we also got back in the game by Shrigs and Pope making 8-9, which is also not the norm. Our team is hard to predict or figure out. When we lose a game like this, in this fashion, with all the points I made, it sure doesn't seen we've improved. The tough part is the kids played hard, they play hard, they care, they don't give up. But them they are their own worst enemy.

They probably played their best game of the season and barely beat us at home.
Pope looked great and will be even better when he bulks up a little and knows the D better.
I still continue to be disappointed by Shepard's turn overs, weak finishes at rim and poor shot selection. He has great potential but...
I think Fish is a great Coach but I never understand why he isn't more concerned about our yearly poor free throw shooting.
Overall though their is reason to believe that we will gel into a formidable team between now and March Madness

So said a mostly unbiased person at the game. Dude is a newby and is in over his head.

There are a lot of bad teams in the MWC this year. You gotta admit, those spurts by us were totally uncharacteristic too. We could have easily lost by 20 if that logic applies. Anyhow, it's not a devastating loss and there were some positives. However, if we need to bank on the likes of Pope, Shrigs, and JJO carrying this team, it will be bumpy. I just can't figure out Shep being so erratic his 3rd year in and definitely expected a helluva lot more from Chol... Next up!

We could have easily lost by 20 if that logic applies. Nevermind, answered my own question. 11-17-2009, second game of the season against St Mary's in the game played at 2 in the morning. But yea you're right, we could have EASILY lost by twenty. ... Looks like the logic might apply

They were denying the ball to Pope and easily bodying him off his position. When he did try to drive, he got it stripped. They were tight on Shrigley as well.

I am a football guy, but love Aztec basketball. And yes, tough loss, but if Pope and company can build on what I say tonight, even an amateur BB guy believes we have something special in the works. I think we go undefeated the rest of the year. Come on, Rams were lights out from 3 pt land, and we still battled and almost won. I have coached football for 20 years. And I can see a team emerging from the individuals.

They had 15 A we had 11. And we got out rebounded 36-32 and out shot pct wise except at the line were we were almost even.

the reality is CSU is a good team, we are a good team, not a great team. We missed key fts down the stretch and didn't convert the big shot when needed. The team competed and make a huge comeback against a team that couldn't miss a 3 pt shot in the first half.
A good sign is the team has cut down on TO's from earlier in the season and some of the players are stepping it up offensively
Things that need to improve
FTs
Inability to finish a fast break.
Inconsistent post play. JJOb was it tonight. Chol has times when fouls take him out of the game.
