I'm not worried about Fresno. We almost beat much better teams with much lesser QBs.

I was at the game and listening to the radio at the same time. Kirk M kept repeating that our DBs were covering as good as possible, but were not showing confidence and panicked as the ball was arriving. In that panic, they grabbed and were flagged. Our DB coach has got to teach these guys to have confidence in their technique. As I wrote in another thread, Bawden will test them in practice. He can throw the long ball. That's how they'll improve on their coverage. The only 20+ yard passes they've seen thus far is in live games. You watch, if Bawden stays injury free we'll see a big turnaround (no pun intended) by the DBs after a couple more games.
Doooode, you nailed it.

isn't Jake R. on the scout team? how have our DBs not been seeing deep throws? I think Rocky has said that the starter gets 75% of the practice snaps. That, and Which WR's are on the scout team? Probably not up to those they will face. On the other hand, you may be correct.

Thrown into the fire. I wanted to see him play but not in this game. Be careful what you wish for! Without any experience he will be thrown to the Lions. Up in Fresno too! So, what is the extent of Quinn's injury?

My favorite Aztec fan is Fanhood. We're related. He thinks our true freshmen QB will come in and have a great game and lead the Aztecs to victory with a conservative passing game and #19 running allover the place. I hope he's right, but my experience says otherwise. Do you remember the old saying -- "whistling by the graveyard." ? I've always thought this was the game of the year. If he make few mistakes we have a chance, otherwise it will be a long night in the Valley of the San Joaquin. And, sincerely hope none of you going get hit with a 9-volt. Don't forget to wear your helmets.

I am from Bawden's home town and have seen the Los Gatos QBs for the past 25 years (a pretty good string of guys that went D-1). NB has a cannon for an arm and has decent wheels, but I don't consider him a "runner" (more mobile than Leinart, but not as good as Rodgers -- might be more like Rivers). He has decent touch on the short throws, can make the deep post and deep out, but might have trouble with pinpoint accuracy on timing patterns or when needing to lead a receiver up the seam. If he can handle the nerves early he will be ok. Kid is a damn good athlete. I would be surprised if Toledo calls for any designed runs (especially with limited depth at the position).

I would think their coach would go with what he knows to be our strongest component, the running game. So they'll play to that and make the QB prove something. Legit point MOW. They will look to shut the run down and make the frosh throw it around to see if he can keep them honest. Expect a loaded box until we prove they should stop. I think we'll start off with short passes to get Bawden a feel for the game and then open up some plays in the 2nd half. We don't need him to try and win the game for us. We just need him to not make any turnovers.

If you want to see why Boise had that run a few years ago look at how many INT's Kellen Moore threw. Compare that with how many Boise's QB's threw vs AFA. The team that turns it over the least wins 90%+ of the time.

I watched him play football for Prosser High in Washington and to this day don't know how UW and WSU let him get away. Very proficient quarterback and rarely made mistakes. Met Bawden's parents in Chapel Hill, NC - good people. Go Aztecs!

I'm not worried about Fresno. We almost beat much better teams with much lesser QBs. Oldie Out Bawden is an excellent QB and was highly recruited by Fresno before choosing San Diego State. I would worry about Fresno, but not because of Bawden being the SDSU replacement QB.

The only danger is Bawden being too hyped up which only Bawden can control, not Toledo. Once he settles down, he should be OK.

SDSU's running game is a huge concern for Fresno. Watching Fresno open field tackling is like watching a swamp of flailing alligators in slow-motion.

Went out to practice today, had to eyeball Bawden. He is perhaps two inches shorter than Kaehler with a thicker build. Hope he has that IT factor come Friday nite. Throws a tight and quick pass. We might get through the year with him 8-4, but I doubt it. Too much to learn. The experienced QB is everything in our game. Don't lose hope Aztec fans. 2015 could be very special.

My guess is he's a quick study and will improve each game. It's up to Toledo to spoon feed him so he won't be overwhelmed. This is after all the MWC, his learning curve doesn't have to be so rapid.

So frustrating, we seem to always have that je ne sais quoi, which prevents us from having a "special", or "breakthrough" year. A real attention grabber. The "attention grabber" was gone when SDSU lost to UNC and OSU. True but Bawden can be the attention grabber and turn this season into a special breakthrough year. He is our best chance not QK.

I'll look forward to seeing your comments on Saturday. You'll be a genius, or hoping QK is healed for next game. I hope you are right as Bawden has good physical tools, but you can't have a TrF have his confidence flattened. Hoping Toledo has a real good game plan to allow him to succeed to some extent, and not fail miserably. Comes down to our ability to consistently run the ball.
