If true, I like it. Bawden not only has a stronger arm, but he can run. That's been our Achilles heel. A QB who has legs will definitely add a new dimension to the offense. The one danger is that young guys have a tendency to fumble. I thought he was more of a pocket QB... .i.e., not much of a runner? He averaged 4.9 yards when he ran in high school. He's built like a linebacker so I'm confident he'll get his yards when forced to. He can make the difference between 2nd and short versus 2nd and 10 under QK. Pumphrey should have a field day when the QB runs for positive yardage.

Shoulder. LArgent will still be out too.

Last year they waited too long to pull Dingwell.
This year it was clear early on that QK didn't have the arm strength following his injury. Shame, because QK is a very good QB.
If true, I believe Bawden will be only the second true frosh to ever start as an Aztec QB (Spencer Brinton was the first).

Guess better now than against Nevada - lots of players going to have to step up. I think we'll see some really good things from Bawden, but he's bound to make plenty of freshmen mistakes. Kinda excited to see what he can do.
Any word on how bad QK is injured?

Shoulder. LArgent will still be out too. I don't think anyone expected Largent back in one week after having appendix surgery. Rocky said last night he is out 3-4 weeks.

At least the running game has started to come around. And, even though he is unproven, the threat of a strong arm, might keep the D from putting 8 in the box (maybe. I would think their coach would go with what he knows to be our strongest component, the running game. So they'll play to that and make the QB prove something.

They will look to shut the run down and make the frosh throw it around to see if he can keep them honest. Expect a loaded box until we prove they should stop.

I can understand how some feel apprehensive about a true frosh starting the most important position on the team, but we have to consider the upside potential. I like QK too, but I think he maxed out his limitations. I don't feel the quality of play in the MWC should affect Bawden's learning curve to any great extent.

Bawden graduated for HS early and was here for spring football. He's not the typical "True Freshman".

He is for sure a pocket passer, but his ability to get outside the will be crucial assuming FSU pressures the kid

Another legit comment, seems there has been one downfall or another since 10' that has kept us from making that "great" leap forward we know this program needs/should make. This is the one criticism of rocky and his staff that should be echoed until untrue. I still hope that he will get us over the hump so to speak. If not we will know by the end of the 2015 season IMHO.

Why all the doom and gloom? Realistically, how much worse can Bawden be than Kaehler has been this season? I'm excited to see how this plays out. Lots more upside than what we've been seeing.

Fresno State can't stop the run. Just run it . Game over. They gave up 285 yards rushing to lowly New Mexico who had 5.2 yards per carry. And they gave up 320 yards passing to 1-4 Southern Utah. So even if they stack the box throw it to Miles and Pumphrey.

Pumphrey already has one more TD than he had ALL OF LAST SEASON with 9 TD's and no fumbles in 75 attempts. Nice.
