After reading that I'm more irritated at the MWC than ever and more convinced than ever that we MUST stick with the Big East. Get us the hell away from those tiny-brained, low-ambitioned clowns in the MWC.

I'm also convinced that the UT---or a faction therein---is not interested in SDSU moving up in the world. Unfathomable to me as to why.

Winston Shepard...Jamaal Franklin...oh well, what's the difference?

One good fact out the article is SDSU would actually save $100,000 in travel costs by being in the BE/BW.

Winston Shepard...Jamaal Franklin...oh well, what's the difference? It's only the home town paper. How would they know?

Winston Shepard...Jamaal Franklin...oh well, what's the difference? When you spend a lot of time together, eat the same foods, etc., you really start looking alike. It is amazing how much the young Winston is looking like Jamaal.

I like the idea of Aresco guaranteeing $5million a year.

Pretty good article. Nice job UT.
The notion that the BE could offer $5 mil per year in ADVANCE of the actual contract is an interesting idea. Not sure if they could do that just for SDSU though.

Seemed like a fairly well balanced article to me...gave pros/cons of each option. Also, for some reason, I felt the writer was suggesting the BE/BW choice was the better of the two... but that might just be my own perception.

It does cover some very good reasoning for going to the Big East, I'll agree with that.
And K5, you were right in regards to the BW ESPN exposure. Conceded.
I'm still disappointed that hoops goes to the minors, but f it....it hasn't hurt recruiting thus far, and I can see the boys locally multiple times per year, being an OC resident. That's a plus.

Pay attention to this part: "understand that SDSU is a state institution that is largely funded by taxpayer dollars and that wants to play big-time NCAA Division I football. Now mix in a biting recession and some of the nation’s most stringent gender equity guidelines, meaning what limited financial resources are available can’t be poured into football and men’s basketball while ignoring the 16 other teams on campus. SDSU’s athletic department needs money to thrive or even just survive, and the Big East offered it."
Hello.
There's a reason why this is an issue...

If you stay, we hope annual visits to Sacramento (Davis), the Central Coast (Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo) and Hawaii help ease the pain a little.

The idea is to maintain those sports. I certainly benefitted from decent football in the day. Perhaps, with a good contract, we buy ooc hoops games and fund Olympic sports. Dude, don't sweat it, it's not about me being right, I'm just trying to do my best to make sure everybody is making an informed decision on this. This is a department defining moment and the masses can't make decisions based on innuendo and half truths. I agree with those saying this is a well written article. It really hits on all of the pluses and minuses of each path.

And before somebody says the masses don't matter, we do, we're the ones who open up our pocket books for donations/tickets/etc...

State law forces us to supply athletic schollys based on the gender population of the school, SDSU is somewhere around 60 percent hotties 40 percent dudes - that's why we had to add dumb ass women's lacrosse last year because we were rounding up. You also have to offer x amount of sports, y amount of men's sports for the NCAA and then z amount of sports of each per each conference's bylawas. We have the minimum amount of mens sports. Maybe we should start impacting communications and psych majors so 10+ percent of the school isn't girls in those majors.

We must stay the course. We cannot and should not go back to MWC. Our future belongs in the Big East.
