In the SD Union Tribune article today about "Aztecs land 4-star hoops recruit" - - - something was mentioned that got my attention.
Apparently colleges were telling Dakarai Allen that SDSU will now be in a very weak division in Big West (we are currently playing in a 5th ranked conference, and will be playing in a lowly 26th ranked conference in the future) - - and will be looking at getting recruits who are only 1 to 2-star, instead of the players we have been getting over the past 5-years.
Being in the Big West certainly will help our football program with $$$, but it also seems to be weakening what SDSU is now known for nationally: it's basketball team !
I dunno...this future basketball conference has me more than a bit worried for our future basketball recruiting, to say the least.

Yup...we have talked about this at length on this forum. We will see where we are in 3-4 years. Right now we are riding high with several successful seasons.

I'm so glad someone brought this up...
Seriously though, it is a legitimate fear, though as it looks now it won't be a problem for the near future.

That's not exactly new information. Of course they were going to bring that up. Just like schools from the Pac-12 used the MWC being a weaker conference in recruiting. Should be noted though that Allen actually said that schools using the BW as a negative actually hurt their chances.

How did Gonzaga keep getting recruits when they were the only team in the WCC worth anything?

Teams can transend conferences. It is about coaches, playing style, facilities etc. Other programs talking crap about the big west just means they do not have enough positives about thier program . Quality kids get that.

A basketball practice facility would go a long way convincing recruits we're anything but small time. This should be #1 on the athletic department's to do list.

As long as we can continue to beat teams from the Pac 12 it is not going to be a large problem. Next year we should get help from the nBE to upgrade our OOC games and we will continue to roll. The league change is a challenge that Fisher & Co. will handle.

They money they make from the carrier classic just might be able to pay for it alone! We'd have to play in about 10 carrier classics to make that much.

Have not seen the ticket prices have you....It could be enough..lolol I have. Assuming SDSU sells all of their tickets, that still leaves the department about $19,200,000 short.

I am so sick of this conversation. People act as if we used to go into homes and tell kids to come play for us so they could be in the prestigious mountain west conference! Come on people! Yes it is a better conference than the big west but don't oversell it! This is not the big east we are talking about here. We were never selling our conference before and wont now. Play for a good team and you'll get noticed and the NBA will come knocking...what 99% of recruits are looking for along with a great college atmosphere. We have both. Move on.

Has anyone thought about what the conference may be ranked once the Aztecs, Boise, and, Hawaii join. Certainly higher then 26th.
