I'll reply to my own post by saying if San Diego State DOES get screwed, it has nobody to blame but itself for allowing the football program go to complete crap in the 00's.

No way of really knowing what's gonna happen, but the fact that the MWC has their own TV network is a good thing and increases the likelyhood that the MWC stays together (and maybe adds schools). From what I have read, the reason the Pac 10 wants to expand is so that they can get more money by having their own network - like the Big 10. The MWC is already ahead of the game.

Yes, there is always a chance we could get left out. But then there has been that chance forever.
I don't see us being left out. We just have to much to offer.

SGF - you need to back wawy from the scene dude. You are obsessed with this stuff. While I am interested and intrigued I have no idea what is going to happen in the end. And while there are many people that read everything they can on this topic they ultimately have no clue either.
The speculation is just unreal.
This is what I know:

This maybe quite short sighted by the MWC. I think it would have been better to be proactive not reactive. If it is true that utah and byu and tcu stopped this from happening I don't think it would be because they were moving on. By having bsu join now we come from a stronger position.
I hope this all works out for our best.

I don't see a TCU - BYU/Utah agreement.

If our football program had even been decent - i.e., not even good - in the 00's like it was in the 90's, we would have absolutely nothing to worry about right now since as you say, we do have a lot of other things to offer. (TV sets, facilities, men's basketball, academics far superior to Boise State, etc.) If we DO get screwed, I'm going to be very pissed off. And it won't be at myself since I've given way more than my share of emotional and financial support to SDSU athletics. Further, I'm going to be even more pissed off if the administration just settles for reverting to the WAC and then tries to put lipstick on that pig. Anybody keeping an eye out for use of conference room at the Denver airport?

(Well, that is unless unless one's perspective is that of many UNLV Rebels who hardly care about football and would therefore be fine with joining CUSA and joining Memphis in dominating that conference in basketball.)

If that happens, we still play football in a new conf. that will be something like todays MWC or todays WAC. How is that any different than what we have been doing for 40 years? I don't think that is going to happen, but if it does we hook up with Nevada Reno, Hawaii, Fresno State, and a few others and continue on. This stuff is not life and death.

We can only hope that the status quo remains...all scenarios point to MWC losing 1 or 2 teams..without the big 3 we lose our chance at AQ. without that AQ we are literally starting from scratch again.

The MWC was a GOOD basketball conference...going backwards is not something im interested in. its a very serious matter and the Adminstration better not f x x x it up.

Put the gun down SGF. The Ute fans in SLC have already said those guys are hacks. Would you take a report like this from Hacksaw seriously?

Hmmm.
At this point, I am hoping the Big-X invites both Mizzou & Nebraska, SOON. Then, the 4 remaining schools in the Big12 would probably not have the chips to play... it would mean the end of the BCS, meaning the allure of the Big12 would count for nothing, and the MWC's infrastructure (own TV channel) would be in a much stronger position.
But... if the Big-X leaves even just Nebraska in the Big12, then the MWC might be in a best a 50/50 head's up pistols-at-dawn poker game.

Agree it's serious, but I think the bottom half of the MWC -- in the eyes of whatever schools might remain in the Big12 -- is pretty darn too close to call... Wyo, AFA, UNM, UNLV, SDSU. Actually, I think Wyoming is the weakest. After that, I'd say it is about even. Service academies bring a lot of prestige regardless of performance, UNM has basketball and geography (proximity) to its credit, UNLV has locationlocationlocation and basketball, and SDSU has access-to-recruiting-hotbed-and-media-market and basketball.

I agree with Steve ont his one. We (you, me and the University) have zero control over this fiasco. If we get left out we hook with: UNLV Reno Fresno Hawaii UNM SJSU Houston SMU Stay away from the Mnt schools assuming the worst comes about.

Put the gun down SGF. The Ute fans in SLC have already said those guys are hacks. Would you take a report like this from Hacksaw seriously? You make a good point. However, my concern isn't based on those guys' supposed source but rather the logic of what they've said and that TCU fans are gradually coming out of the woodwork to imply they don't give a rat's ass about the Mountain West except with regard to BYU and Utah since the rest of us don't have anything in our favor except basketball, which is a sport which doesn't mean crap to TCU. I'm not predicting they're going to be correct. I'm just expanding on what I said yesterday about the fact SDSU could end up smelling like a rose as fanhood predicted or we could end up getting really screwed as L.A. said. Thankfully, Weber is reportedly good friends with Utah's president so maybe that will help if Kansas tries to put on some kind of power play.

Sure wish all of this would've went down in a few years when our football program was (hopefully) stronger. Sleeping giant slept through the whole darned thing.
