I doubt ESPN can buy one game. I think what is being talked about is the whole tv contract. And if CBSCS bought the whole contract, this is a dream come true for them in ratings. Why would you give this one away when it will draw traffic to your channel. I like Gotlieb but lets not forget who he works for.

That's a shame, it's the biggest regular season game in conference history and they blow it. ESPN would have been spotlighting that game all day. It will be interesting if ESPN will host CollegeGame Day when BYU visits Viejas Arena on 2/26. Not having this first game televised is probably a strike against it.

ESPN needs to step up and pay us what we are worth. We need a price war and we need to play hard to get. They will not have Bosie football either. We need CBS to step up to ESPN. We are working a new TV contract and you want to stiff CBS before it's done? Quit thinking short term gratification.

1) Gotlieb schills for ESPN
2) I'm glad we are in a situation where we don't have to kow-tow to ESPN. They have done NOTHING for SDSU in the past except put them on at midnight once a year.
3) It has been proved repeatedly -- and is being proven -- that not being on ESPN does not hurt a program's ability to perform. (TCU/Utah football, SDSU hoops)
4) It's not all about the ability to make a cash-grab for a given game. Grow your product slowly, and it will endure. Brightest flashes burn out the quickest.

Don't you think if the TV contracts were handled better, then the higher performing schools would get more recognition possibly leading to a BCS? therefore making it more enticing for TCU,UTAH, BYU to stay within the conference? and that would definitely result in more $$$ in the long run scope and more for the schools. Am i missing something???

What we need is competition for the MWC. This would benefit the conference most. If ESPN wants to jump in late to the party they should have to outbid other suitors like any other customer would.
Besides, they have way too much power in sports today and are used to dictating what sports, conferences, and stories are worthy of recognition. They honk Big 10 football, Yankees/Red Sox, and use their media platform to sell their sports/games and ignore everything else making it nationally irrelevant. They could pound sand for all I care.

Pot calling the kettle black comes to mind.

I'm also assuming that those numbers represent the households with access to the channels. If you factor in the households who actually receive CBSCS or Versus the numbers probably drop significantly. ESPN is part of just about every basic cable or satellite TV package. For many people Versus and CBSCS are going to require an additional subscription to some sports package.

The game on 2/26 is already set for CBS There had better been a significant amount more dough that VS dished out for this...you'd think that someone's heard the saying "all money ain't good money." An opportunity to showcase the two best MWC teams, both ranked in the top 10? On ESPN? And instead you choose to sell rights to friggin VS? I don't get it.

Exposure will come as long as we continue to win. Everyone is talking about us because we are winning. Did we need ESPN in order for people to talk about us? I don't wan to be controlled by ESPN. If they want us then they should pay.
