I like the input from the wives on this post. I already mentioned several weeks back that my 9 year old doesn't like Zuma at all. He took one look at that furry little creature and wanted our Warrior to chase him off the court with a flaming spear. Well, not exactly, but he wants him removed. The kid is young, but he appreciates traditions.

They should introduce Zuma with this song.

I seriously can't believe all the vitriol on a stupid mascot. "Vitriol"? Isn't that a pill? RRR HAM

Schnall said in that "Aztecs Now" interview a month or so ago with Mike Costa that Monty wasn't going anywhere. For now, his word is good enough for me. That said, I hope the AWF keeps-up the fight that means a lot to many of us.
If I didn't care so much about the Aztecs, I'd say, let them try and make Zuma the mascot. The only problem is, so much money would be wasted on their end implementing the changes (Zuma's Pub?) and they'd lose so much donation money from the alums that it would put us backward into a never before seen deficit that would take a decade to get out of ... but at least they'd know where the the people with the money stand (not just those with a keyboard and penchant for creating drama for their amusement).
The minute that stance starts to change, fire him faster than the cheerleaders saying, "Just another 15 minutes please, 'Schnally'" on a road trip curfew.

You know what's funny - the more people complain about Zuma, the more I don't care if he actually DOES take over as the official mascot. I really don't care. It means squat to me. You know what is important? Our teams winning. Please elucidate on the teams to which you are referring, good sir! The Capital One Mascot Challenge is the only competition that matters at the San Diego State University I remember.

fmichigan must be Schnall. I actually wondered the same. Query: How tough would it be for SDSU's administration to just put in writing that the AW won't be replaced by Zuma? Answer: Not very. However, then we wouldn't have any more 10-page threads on the board and what fun would that be?

Here are some more highlights of the meeting last night...
__________________________________________________
The Board of Directors of the Aztec Warrior Foundation (Bruce Johnson, Rulon Jenson, Martha Beckman, and Steve Anderson) met with the current mascot committee, Jim Herrick (Alumni Director), Steve Schnall, Brian Sipe, Mike the Monty (Aztec Warrior)... to discuss the current status of the Aztec Warrior as well as Zuma.
The Board of the Aztec Warrior Foundation unanimously recommended:
Zuma, if he continues shall:
1/ NOT be on the court or field 2/ NOT lead the team on the court or field 3/ NOT be anywhere near the court or field 4/ NOT be referred to in any way as a "mascot"
and that
1/ he may, if necessary, be at the tailgate area, parking lot and any area outside of the seating area where a kid's zone is located. 2/ he may, if necessary, be associated with the Aztec kid's club 3/ the admins may sell merchandise w/ Zuma on it. ___________________________________________________
More later.

I think a good compromise would be that Zuma can't lead the team on the court or field and can't be on the court or field. Other than that let the cat be a cat and roam around. I will say that one problem with Monty is he does not really stand out. It is much easier to point out Zuma from far away than it is Monty. One of my friends from Colorado actually thought Monty was just a student who dressed up fromt the game, not our mascot.

How ridiculous; a committee to discuss an over-sized toy leopard in an Aztec football uniform!
Well, it sounds like the committee met and re learned what we already knew:
1. Brian Sipe is not anti Zuma (and that makes Zuma OK with me).
2. Zuma is not the official mascot and never will be.
3. The Aztec Warrior is, and always will be, SDSU's official mascot.
4. Steve's a liar.
Perhaps Steve should be banned for causing a panic among the Aztec elderly?

He doesn't stand out because he barely leaves the side of the cheerleaders...or more accurately, is usually hiding behind them. I know Carlos set the bar high, but come on...GET AROUND!!! Mike seems like a good dude, but lets get a AW that isn't shy next go around. Hell, fill the dude up with Red Bull or something...

He really seems like a good dude and he looks the part, but he does not get around that much. More energy would help. He always seems to be walking or standing. I never see him REALLY pumped.
