The Depth chart as of the last practice for the return Wr's is something very close to this
Sandifer Denso Ruffin Waddell Nicholas Russell Lamar Jones Forni Turner
Regardless of newcomers for next season, Ruffin and Waddell will get a lot of reps.

My gut tells me that based on his athletic ability Ruffin would have gotten offers as a receiver from elite teams if he had good hands...hope I'm wrong.

Us and Nebraska offered late.

You would have to think that Escobar will play wide out some next year also....I love his game and with two NFL caliber tight ends it seems like we would want them on the field at the same time.

The same with ronnie. regardless of what their position is (WR, TE, HB, FB)..Al knows how to utilize them, make them a threat and get them the ball

I remember seeing Sampson line up at HB several times this last season then motioning out to the slot in hopes of getting a linebacker or safety to try and matchup with him. having guys like Hillman (who showed better hands at the end of the year), Escobar and Ruffin (who can play WR or RB) gives Al a ton of room to let thier creative juices flow and try to get favorable matchups.

This is the reason why Hoke picks up kids who bring a multi-dimensional game to the table (RBs who can catch, WRs who can throw, TEs who can block, DBs with LB mentalities, DEs who can drop back and cover). This allows Al to add additional wrinkles to his playbook. Just pick up productive football players with tons of heart, not one trick ponies.
Oldie Out

Grades were the reason he did not get a ton of offers. We that and he played all over the place QB,Running-back,DB etc. Did not stay in one position long enough to master its technique. Big time schools want a ready to go guy lay as a frosh no coaching required, they pass on a lot of great athletes. That why the Pros are full of non BCS players.

Ruffin went to one of the sub par LB or HB schools too, didn't he, like Wilson or one of the other usual sub .500 teams - seems like if a player in that area doesn't go to poly, mater dei or edison they are under recruited

If he can't participate in Spring ball it'll be a setback for both he and the team.

What happened in HS has nothing to do with college. He learned his lesson is hs. Plus it wasnt like he was ineligible or didnt make grades in hs. He got decent grades. but the schools thought he was on the border and didnt want to spend the resources in recruiting him.

Is it true that Alston Umuolo because of his great hands and speed may be the perfect canidate to move from TE to WR? We have a plethora of players at TE already, and since he has great size at 6'3", 240 lbs., would he not make the perfect wideout for Lindley to hit?
He will be coming back for his 5th year due to injury, and with his experience he will fit in nicely. ;D

He doesn't really have the speed to be a pure WR, but he can be shifted and moved (like Antonio Gates) to create mismatches.
