This is the only board I've ever really been a part of, and man, do I love it...while I think of myself as reasonably mentally competent and socially aware, I am an utter ignoramus about some things re: message boards...
For example:
Can anyone sort of summarize for me why the board changes and moves around? Not hating, just wondering...for my own elucidation purposes...

Some of the old-timers, that is people who have been participating in Aztec fan boards for longer than I have, can probably do a better job, but here goes. I think the first board started about 1999. A few years later the operator of that board got embroiled in the David Ohton case. He (Ohton) was removed as football strength coach, possibly because of his whisleblowing in the SDSU athletic dept. scandal. Anyway, AzteTalk.com was closed down as a result. AztecTalk.org replaced it. That's where I came in about Feb. of '06. Last year the operator of the .org board decided to withdraw. A new board, AztecTalk.com, was started (last July). That administrator did not like politics being discussed, so I started AzteMesa.Proboards.com so I and others could continue to discuss political issues. Then, just a couple of days ago, AztecTalk.com was closed, and many of the fans migrated here. I, along with my son Erik, are administrators of this board and are trying to make it a worthy successor to the other boards. Darn! Aren't you glad you asked?! ;D As I said at the top, others can supply more information. AzWm

By the way, Kev, you need not fear being criticized for asking your question.

Thanks, guys, for the nudge...I'll check my messages, too SGF...
Thanks for carrying on, William...I have been hooked on the Aztec board (in its different incarnations) for about four years now (the first two as a dedicated lurker, and the past two as a contributor when I think I have something to add)...

AzWm Zip wasn't really involved in the Ohton case except as it was related to the Bartel case since it was Bartel who sued him (and me and one other poster). But we do go back farther than '99 because I know I met quite a few people for the first time at USuckC in '98 and then more at the Vegas Dust Bowl. =Bob

I swear I've been reading and posting to some form of aztectalk since '94 or so. I was at the USC game in '98. You remember the USC AD speaking to our SDSU pregame function at the newly relocated Getty? Thanks Bay, that is just what I wanted to hear. Or maybe it was Tollner that was responsible since he had the USC connection.
Anyway, was at the dust bowl too. Swear I was on Atalk before the dust bowl. Not sure about

I have been on the boards for over 11 years (and not just Aztec boards).
Your question is a good one Kev.
The boards seem to have changed a lot to me......And the members have changed a lot.
The Aztec boards used to be a homey type place of friends, but in the past few years seem to be more of an attack type place. I am as guilty as any. It is hard not to fight back sometimes against someone who is attacking you.
If I remember correctly (in my time)...
-Zip had the first board I was part of, but he got involved in some type of law suit with some members on the board. It cost him some money and he gave up the board.
-A poster named Temoc took over the board and did a pretty good job. He tired of all the complaints over time and closed down the board.
-Temoc funneled board member to AztecSportsReport (I think) and that didn't last long. ASR just didn't have that same feel we all like.
-Tonotiuh started a new Aztectalk and it was very good. Over time Tonotiuh tired of the complaints from posters and gave up the board.
-Zip took it over again and has had it for about the last year or so, until he grew weary of lawsuits recently. (Some say that certain newspapers were suing message boards over their articles being copied and pasted on boards).
-Zip funneled people to AztecMesa, who is run by a long time board member AztecWilliam and his son B5Erik. So here we are. __________________________________________________
Just my take, but Aztectalks feel has went from....
1. Good fans who love the Aztecs and talked sports.
2. To a slightly younger group of fans who love to take shots at older people.
3. Many of the older posters left the board and the board became even younger.
4. To a majority of griping, bitching, complaining, posters who couldn't tolerate fans who disagreed with them.
(For instance, I went from one of the most popular posters (as voted by aztec members about one year ago) to one of the most hated posters in less than 3 months because I thought Chuck Long should not be fired. That after 10 years of being on these boards and rarely having a battle with more than a handful of posters in a decade)
5. I have high hopes for this board. I hope posters will listen to both sides of the story and attack other posters less. I feel it has the best chance to get back where Tonotiuh was and the original Zip board was in closeness of fans who love to talk Aztec Sports.
I would hope some of the older posters would feel free to come back to where they belong. ____________________________________________________
In a nutshell, boards keep changing because of a couple of things...
1. Lawsuits or threats of lawsuits to the MOD.
2. The constant complaining by posters to MOD's, which wears the MOD out over time until he throws his hands up and says.....This is not worth it anymore.

This is no knock on Tonotiuh so he shouldn't take it that way but I'm very surprised to hear there were ANY complaints from posters to that board. Personally I found that site to be full of such sweetness and light that it was too boring to bother with. I visit these boards not just for the dissemination of information but for debate and a certain amount of virtriol comes with that territory.

Do you want me to find you a nice icon and a funny signature picture. I have one I no longer use. Does it have a splinter group logo and mock a politician? Like maybe green party and bush or bull moose party and taft/wilson? I've always found TR fascinating, so maybe I'll go with that one.

It cost him some money and he gave up the board. Unless I'm mistaken, Zip took it over from Jerry McKune, a Fresno fan who set up The Mesa after the person who started the first SDSU forum bailed. I'd known Jerry since my early days on the rec.sport.football.college newsgroup back in the early '90s, when we got into a 4 day war of words over which of our schools had the better football team. I think he took over during the time that we were both in the WAC, so maybe '97 or so. If that's the case, the previous forum would date to maybe '96. =Bob

Claiming you became one of the "most hated" is nonsense. This is the Net, after all, and the Net is always going to have wars of words. Everyone liked to argue the point with you, but I doubt anyone "hated" you. But second, we had an exodus back around '98 or '99 because certain posters got pissed off at one poster's criticism of Tollner and formed a list serve to talk to each other. Most of them have never been back, although a few are still here. =Bob

SteveAztec: I don't hate you. I thought all the back and forth about Chuck Long was kind of fun. I'm not a good enough judge of football and coaching to know what the ultimate outcome would have been had Long been retained. Argueing can be fun. Of course, it also can go too far. Let's all try and not get the moderators of this board wornout or sued.
