Well, first off, stop being such a martyr. Claiming you became one of the "most hated" is nonsense. This is the Net, after all, and the Net is always going to have wars of words. Everyone liked to argue the point with you, but I doubt anyone "hated" you. But second, we had an exodus back around '98 or '99 because certain posters got pissed off at one poster's criticism of Tollner and formed a list serve to talk to each other. Most of them have never been back, although a few are still here. =Bob Are you denying that I was disliked on the Aztecboard because I supported Chuck Long? Please expalin =Bob. I have been on the boards for over 11 years (and not just Aztec boards). Your question is a good one Kev. The boards seem to have changed a lot to me......And the members have changed a lot. The Aztec boards used to be a homey type place of friends, but in the past few years seem to be more of an attack type place. I am as guilty as any. It is hard not to fight back sometimes against someone who is attacking you. If I remember correctly (in my time)... -Zip had the first board I was part of, but he got involved in some type of law suit with some members on the board. It cost him some money and he gave up the board. -A poster named Temoc took over the board and did a pretty good job. He tired of all the complaints over time and closed down the board. -Temoc funneled board member to AztecSportsReport (I think) and that didn't last long. ASR just didn't have that same feel we all like. -Tonotiuh started a new Aztectalk and it was very good. Over time Tonotiuh tired of the complaints from posters and gave up the board. -Zip took it over again and has had it for about the last year or so, until he grew weary of lawsuits recently. (Some say that certain newspapers were suing message boards over their articles being copied and pasted on boards). -Zip funneled people to AztecMesa, who is run by a long time board member AztecWilliam and his son B5Erik. So here we are. __________________________________________________ Just my take, but Aztectalks feel has went from.... 1. Good fans who love the Aztecs and talked sports. 2. To a slightly younger group of fans who love to take shots at older people. 3. Many of the older posters left the board and the board became even younger. 4. To a majority of griping, bitching, complaining, posters who couldn't tolerate fans who disagreed with them. (For instance, I went from one of the most popular posters (as voted by aztec members about one year ago) to one of the most hated posters in less than 3 months because I thought Chuck Long should not be fired. That after 10 years of being on these boards and rarely having a battle with more than a handful of posters in a decade) 5. I have high hopes for this board. I hope posters will listen to both sides of the story and attack other posters less. I feel it has the best chance to get back where Tonotiuh was and the original Zip board was in closeness of fans who love to talk Aztec Sports. I would hope some of the older posters would feel free to come back to where they belong. ____________________________________________________ In a nutshell, boards keep changing because of a couple of things... 1. Pretty sure the original site was "The Mesa". It was an offshoot of "the barkboard". Not sure what year it started but there have always been lots of salty exchanges between members. Anyone remember AJ? I think it's worse now because of frustration with horrible Aztec football. There was one before McKune started the Mesa. Whatever that one was, the moderator bailed and Jerry took it upon himself to tie it into the Bark Board so we'd still have a forum. =Bob |

Tom has a bit of a point with WTF response, so no, I don't think you were disliked because you supported Long. I'm sure you pissed off a fair number of people with your defense, but claiming they "hated" you is way off, which is why I wrote that you are playing the martyr card. Keep in mind that you and I were both defending him. I burned some bridges doing so, but nothing that hasn't been repaired as far as I know. Besides, I piss off people on here all the time and never worry about whether they hate me because most of them don't. So stop beating yourself up - you're very well liked on here, Steve. =Bob |

Not sure what year it started but there have always been lots of salty exchanges between members. I think it's worse now because of frustration with horrible Aztec football. Actually, for me, Aztectalk was bad annually during basketball season "because of frustration with good Aztec basketball." (It was universally believed that the football program sucked so there was very little argument over that.) As Steve pointed out, the anti-basketball team vitriol didn't come from those of us old enough to remember SDSU pre-Fish. Yeah, we've been disappointed the team still hasn't won in the NCAA tournament but we know that's right around the corner. Rather, the vitriol came from those as impatient for success as I was at their age. As to Steve's claim he was hated, that's not at all true. Steve was never hated, just his defense of a certain former head coach every single time that former head coach's name was brought up by anybody. I like Steve and think he's a great Aztec but that broken record was just beyond the pale and here's hoping that particular pissing match is in the past. |

I live in Mission Beach, leave my basement everyday, and interact with 100's of humans daily. Many in South Mission, the Roller Coaster, and North Mission know me on a first name basis. My psyche is fine and I probably have more contacts with people daily, than you do in a week. |

I gave you the definition of "Hater" according to Urban Dictionary. One thing on Chuck Long. I think people are really getting mixed up with two different eras of Chuck Long and my comments on the other board. __________________________________________________ -1st era. Chuck Long as an active Aztec Coach****. Yes I defend him a lot during this period and I do believe he was on topic all of that time. __________________________________________________ -2nd era. Chuck Long from the day he was fired****. I only gave my opinion when others would bring Chuck Long up. I started approx. 4 Chuck Longs threads in this era. Others started about 100. I only commented (95% of the time) on Chuck Long when others brought him up. I also believe that Chuck Long was considered "on topic" in that era by the MOD. So =Bob....Why were posters mad at me, when they were the ones starting the Chuck Long threads AND he was on topic? Why is that my fault? |

Yes I was, and I earned it.....And I earned it on purpose. All I asked over there was one fool to quit playing a very vivid video of a man blowing his head off in a suicide (from the movie full metal jacket), because my brother in law had recently committed suicide. He not only refused, increased the play and got a bunch of his buddies to join in on his little game. I apologize for nothing on that board. My psyche is fine and I probably have more contacts with people daily, than you do in a week. Yeah, OK. Are you going to harp about how many people you meet in a week for the next 10 months then? Because that's how ridiculous you can be. I generally like you, but the constant harping on Long or who hates you is tiring. OK, as the new sheriff in town I feel I should interject here. This is the kind of thing that gets old real fast, and we want to make sure that everyone can enjoy discussing Aztec Sports and other related stuff. Look, we all know that Steve is a staunch Chuck Long defender. Very few of us share his view, but it is his view. Obviously it caused a lot of back and forth on the last couple of boards, and didn't really get anyone anywhere. Let's try to keep the personal shots against Steve to a minimum. And, Steve, let's try to keep the, "Everyone hates me," posts to a minimum as well. We all know that you get a lot of criticism, but some of it you do bring on yourself. I've engaged in these debates/arguments in the past, and will probably get sucked in again at some points. Let's just try to see if we can all keep our cool and focus on the topic that matters the most here. SDSU. Does that work for everyone? (FYI, I'm not trying to be an overbearing type of mod, I just want to let everyone know what I hope to see here over the coming months and - hopefully - years. Thanks.) |

I live in Mission Beach, leave my basement everyday, and interact with 100's of humans daily. Many in South Mission, the Roller Coaster, and North Mission know me on a first name basis.
