It's hard for me to come to the realization that Aztec football is no longer the Aztec football of my 60+ years of fandom. Last night as I left the stadium, I came to the conclusion that, there is really nothing left of the past except the colors of Red n Black. Nothing! I believe that I enjoyed the worst years of Aztec past(hiring of Doug Scovil, the abysmal Chuck Long era,..) because even though, after another humiliating loss, there was the next Aztec game. Tailgating with 10, 20, up to 100 friends and relatives in A3 for 50 plus years at venerable (SD Stadium, Jack Murphy, the Q, and all the other) iterations. The same greats(at a reasonable price) seats, the familiarities of the restrooms, beer stands, and a bar that only, the size of the patronage could exclude you. While I thought the idea of Snapdragon was a dream, the promise has evaporated, high prices, exclusivity of 40-50% of the stadium, ingress and egress of most parking and stadium, field conditions, and most importantly, the demise of the football program. There really is nothing about Aztec Football left, but the memories. I do not know, personally, many that were as passionate and dedicated as I have been. I doubt I ever dreaded going to an Aztec game, but am nearing that moment. As for this coach and team?? I know this is a small sample, but it seems Lewis has encapsulated all the questionable coaching decisions of the past into 1 season so far? Questionable coaching hires, personnel decisions, O n D play calling.... Not to mention his inability, resistance, insistence on doing the same thing over n over and despite the results? Didn't coach Einstein get fired for that? So far this season has been a disaster and getting worse with evey game, with no sign of much or any improvement. There are a few bright spots? O'Neil has shown some improvement, although he seems to stare at his receivers, and I personally think Johnson might have more upside in what I think Lewis is trying to do? Most of the rest of team are hard to judge for numerous reasons. What could've easily been a 6-6(?) season will most likely be a 4-8 at best or 3-9 season at worst. Sad part is, this could easily be the beginning of a return to the morass of the past, rather than the glory of the past? I could go on , but the gnawing of my teeth is make my head ache and ears ring. You are not alone in your thinking about this or your spot-on observations. The exclusivity nonsense feels especially unwelcoming. JDW and his minions can have it. And now that they can't even put an entertaining or competitive team on the field, there are fewer and fewer reasons for us peon fans to continue throwing good money after bad …

Lucky Sutton getting 0 carries is poor coaching. Don't be surprised when Sutton enters the transfer portal after this season. It will take a miracle for SDSU to be within 30 points of UNLV next week. wouldn't be surprised if all the backs go into the portal I was behind State's bench. I honestly felt terrible for LUCKY. Every time Cooper came off the field Cooper would get out a computer pad and look at the plays that just happened. Armstead would lean over and also look at it, Lucky sometimes looked, but mostly wasn't engaged, always keeping his helmet on. I saw O'Neil on the bench also looking at his pad, Crum sat next to O'Neil also looking at the pad, but JTJ was next to Crum and wasn't looking at it. Yes this is a small sample size. The most energy I saw was when J. WOLFE bash his helmet into the bench several times after the Aztecs last failed series, game over. Also when OL Coach Schmidt laid big time into Ross Maseuli. I felt so bad for Lucky seeing him sit on the bench and I could only imagine what was going through his head. Another loss, Cooper taking a ridiculous 35 carriers, not getting into the game. He has to have mental toughness to endure this every week. Sorry I don't know how to post pictures. I also went to the women's volleyball ball against SJST today, SDSU won 3-1 games. I saw the WICKSTER roaming Peterson Gym, occasionally talking to Zeigler. Maybe Zeigler should be asking Wicker some hard questions around the FB program and not be buddy buddy.

For all of us that can't understand the ridiculousness of running Cooper a thousand times in a row without relief, please email Kirk Kenney at the UT who's the Aztec FB writer. I emailed him last week about why Lewis is never asked about that and heard nothing back. Let's bombard him and shame him into asking something, anything, that relates to Lewis's idiotic decisions regarding RBs.
And, oh yeah, O'Neil could take a breather now and then too, especially when he's getting creamed series after series.

Football, especially college football is not a product or entertainment. It's our football team that we root to win. It's the season ticket holders and boosters fault we are like this. Winning 7-6 is more exciting to me than losing 49-42. I will never understand this mentality. Don Coryell's Aztec teams played in Division II until 1969. Why is there so much emphasis on wanting to pass the ball and how old are you people? The only winning Aztec teams I can remember ran the ball and played hard nosed defense. We need to go back to what we were good at, I formation, double TE, huge offense line that just knows how to do one thing good..RUN BLOCK, one good WR (this team 19 Napier) and RUNNING THE BALL, with Cooper, Sutton, and Armsteid. A bad 3-6 New Mexico team beat us at home by running the ball. No gimmicks. By now, Lewis knows what he has and knows this time cannot pass, but he has to to keep the season ticket holders buying tickets and the donations coming in by gimmicks and passing, you people even made us wear more red now instead of black because you like red better., Black has always been the main uniform color for Aztec athletics. You people pushed out Rocky Long because of wanting to pass the ball and gimmick plays. I would take Brady Hoke any day over Lewis.

That was HIS choice. We were bored with Hoke because they WERE boring AND lost. That's a combination no fan base will stand for these days.

Nobody forced Lewis to play Daddy Ball with Cooper Nobody forced Lewis to start a true freshman one-dimensional QB in his scheme that requires a dual-threat QB while his dual-threat QBs sat on the bench. The scheme itself, the veer & shoot is actually a very good and entertaining offense when you have a dual-threat QB and don't play Daddy Ball with an RB who lacks both top-end speed and power

How hard will it be to find a RB in the portal who wants 25+ carries per game?
Not hard at all!

How hard will it be to find a RB in the portal who wants 25+ carries per game? Not hard at all! That's the easy part The hard part is getting every scholarship RB who didn't earn RB1 to stay after spring camp and then a different group of RBs after fall camp because they know they're never going to see the field.

Bingo! -Sure would be nice to see some other players in the next few games, was really think Bennett would have had seen a little more action this year, sad that he is one and done.

Right. We are going to end up with one “good” back to get all the carries and hardly any backups in case of injury. Not a recipe for success. Im sure Cooper knows the playbook better than everybody, but this is ridiculous now!

How hard will it be to find a RB in the portal who wants 25+ carries per game? Not hard at all! We need OL. Every NIL dollar needs to go to the lines. We would need to get a bunch of money to do that to compete with the P4's. Good OL are hard to get because there are five starting spots on every team. If you're good you will play. It's not like QB. Because we likely won't be able to entice enough good OL to fill all five spots I've suggested changing offensive schemes to a Leach-style air raid where the OL just need to get in the way because the ball is coming out in under 2 seconds and swing passes and screens are your running game unless you get a super light box. Put money into getting a good QB (there are only 133 FBS starting QB spots) and a couple of good WR's. It will be fan friendly and we would stand a better chance to win at a high level.

Of course- because he is on the verge of breaking off a long run at anytime. -and he is the FBS leading rusher with almost 5000 yards -- and Steve Fisher gave out free tickets ---and Kawhi Leonard has big hands ---- ----- I think you’re missing a quote on Matt Mitchell losing some weight

wouldn't be surprised if all the backs go into the portal Armstead has no eligibility left. Christon has no eligibility left. Sutton has 2 years left. Can Davis - who cares? 1 year left Rhaney - 4 years - tore his acl and is recouping. He is 200 pounds so not to Lewis’ liking most likely. Gardenia - 2 years The cupboard is bare after this year, this area of need right behind OL. Didn't help that Anthony McMillan didn't even make it out of Spring camp before going into the Portal.
