Offense was lot better in second half, more under control. Thought bj/boyd turned down good looks from 3 especially in first half, if you are open shoot it! Good learning experience

Byrd and Boyd are going to score a ton of points. Clean up the help defense and establish some kind of inside presence - Would like to see more of JCJ.

Sloppy win, Boyd and Byrd looked good, but Goon has to stop shuffling his feet he’s not ready yet on the offensive side, his defense looked good though. Compton looks like a building block needs more offensive touches. Heidi what’s up man he was nowhere to be seen scary I was hoping he was improving I guess not! Over all same Aztec Defense but we gotta knock off the turnovers or it’s gonna be a long season.

We played sloppily and not happy with giving UCSD 9 extra chances on the offensive end. I really hate it when we play strong defense only to make a sloppy pass to get the ball stolen. Byrd looked pretty good tonight offensive after missing his first couple of shots. Always love his hustle too. Boyd looks rusty. We made plays down the stretch to win, however. I'd rather win this close than playing like this and winning big. More teachable moments for the film study.

Guards depth looks to be in good shape (especially when reese- Waters is back) front court needs a lot of work and game reps

Boyd, Byrd, BJ all looked great. Boys tries to do too much himself sometimes though.
JCJ with some mistakes early, but played better as the game went on.
Gwath always looks tired, or is stumbling over people, but then he makes amazing plays too.
Compton looked really, really good - I still don't understand why he isn't getting more minutes.
McKinney looks weak physically, gets pushed around on switches. Not great on offense either, he's quick but doesn't use his speed enough to create for others.
Taj shows potential, but just doesn't make good decisions, fouls too much, really can't wait for Waters to come back to take his minutes.
Ferrari looked great in only 2 minutes, moved a player bigger then him in the paint on the box out, drove and kicked for an open shot (that we missed), got a rebound.
Heide looked decent, he didn't look bad, but I guess I just expected more from him.

Boyd looks really smooth to me....Poised in control....I like his game....No fear of he and Davis breaking the press.....
Gonna be lots of growing pains early....
Collegiate landscape is soooo different now (because of NIL)
Our team should be fun to follow.....

BYRD was 7-12 from the floor, 4-8 from three with 8 RB'S. DAVIS was 4-8 from the floor, BOYD was 4-11. COLEMAN had 9 RB'S, HEIDE 0 pts, 2 RB'S,,, what happened to HEIDE, I thought he would progress from last year, he didn't see the floor much. MAGOON cramped up tonight. |

That was not a good UCSD team. We played down to a mid to low Big West team. Its going to be a long season. No girth up front and when UCSD went to a 3rd grade zone defense we had 7ft jacking up
3s. On a good note Boyd is a legit PG and Davis has improved alot.

My take:
Great way to come back. We were down 5 points with about 7 minutes to go. The defense started to play SDSU defense during the last 7 minutes. Boyd stepped up and led the team to victory like a true lead PG should. He had some nice dimes and got to the hole to help us finish with a win.
Check out Byrd’s stats: 7-12 FGs, 4-8 from 3, 2-2 at the line for 20 points. Plus, 8 boards, 3 dimes, 5 steals, and 4 blocks with only 1 TO! Great start for the guy we need to step up!
BJ had 11. Our starting gaurds were very good! Imagine if Reese was playing!
Our bigs were average. Jones had his moments with 9 points and 9 boards. Gwath amd Heide were bad offensively, MG had 3 blocks. Compton had 6 and definitely looks like he should be in the rotation.
Overall, we had too many silly turnovers and did not play SDSU D for 40 minutes. But these are things that will improve.
Outside shooting is MUCH an improved from last season. As of now, I’m optimistic.

Playing 10 guys against UCSD and Occidental is cute and all, but I think we have about a 7 man rotation against top competition (7.5 when Reese Waters comes back, at which point McKinney will be the extra 0.5 player).
