We're three games in. WAY too early to hit the panic button. Even coaches have learning curves. Give him time. If we see these mistakes and results against the MWC teams, THEN you can hit the panic button. But we destroyed the team we were supposed to destroy, so we aren't having Cal Poly III here. That's the first thing to feel OK about. I'm not making any judgments about Coach Lewis until we're a few games into the MWC. If we still look like this at that point we may have a problem. I appreciate the calming approach you're taking, and no one really expected us to beat OSU or Cal after the offseason roster turnover, but the manner in which we're losing is a bad sign. I don't need to repeat what's already been said previously on this thread. It's the same as the last game thread. If we were just coming up short without all the silliness, I wouldn't have a problem, but that's not what's happening. I smell Chuck Long, which is not good. Yep. It feels like the program is right back where it was 20 years ago with Air Crapted and Chuck Wrong It took Hoke I to come in and straighten them out - and he did it in a hurry, too. They went from 2–10 to 10–2 in the two years he was here (the first time). Hoke's swan song was a joke, but one thing he could do that many forget about was his ability to recruit good talent that would actually come to SDSU. It remains to be seen what Lewis can do in that area, so he gets a pass … for now. But right now his team looks more and more like it's coached by Jerry Lewis than any other Lewis I've ever seen.

I was thinking more "Nutty Professor"… but Jerry Lee fits, too - especially with that OL and their " Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" and the WR with their "Crazy Arms".

About time for Sutton to get the ball three times in a row for 15 yards. Too bad it happened when this game was already decided and around the final minute.

Am I seeing some reminiscing about Hoke?
This place never disappoints.

Got to get back to basics. Play the game without a million penalties, and hold players accountable for their mistakes. Personal foul penalties should result in a seat on the bench and an earful. Regular penalties should result in running in practice, multiple penalties should be an earful and a seat on the bench.
Regarding our defense, they held it together against a really good CAL team for over half the game, despite our offense doing them no favors whatsoever. They need to play smarter, but the offense is the issue - not the defense.

I swear he plays daddy ball with the dude when there's a ton of talent gathering cobwebs behind him. Armstead was also hugely impactful on the few plays he got.

The players sure aren't afraid of him or any retributions. When we got stupid penalties, not ones for trying too hard but for being stupid, we got pulled and sat for a while. and the next week in practice those particular players either had to run their ass off or worse, those player's action would make the entire team have to run their asses off. Facts! Also such a childish & stupid personal foul like flipping the other sideline the bird might get a spot on the bench for the rest of the game. That's not even a football related personal foul like a facemask or a late hit. Both of those merit a cool off period on the sideline with some extra coaching. And yet, not a damn thing for this Rest assured, per UT KENNEY: Asked if the Aztecs are undisciplined, Lewis said, “I don’t think we’re an undisciplined team. I think we just get emotional at times. The most preventable penalty came in the second quarter, when SDSU was hit with a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after running back Marquez Cooper made an obscene gesture toward the Cal bench. “He knows better than that,” Lewis said. “We talked about it on the bench. That’s inexcusable. “The competitive maturity that the whole team needs to have, especially a guy like Coop, needs to shine through, and (the penalty) can’t happen.” Lewis said Cooper will be disciplined for the transgression. And the coach will join Cooper when the punishment is carried out. “We’ll do up/downs together,” Lewis said. “Every 15-yard penalty that’s completely controllable like that, me and him will do up/downs together because, obviously, I’m not leading well enough. … We’ll grow from that. He knows better. He’ll be the first one to tell you. He apologized to me on the boundary. It just can’t happen.” In limiting the penalties called between the whistles, Lewis said he must be mindful not to discourage the Aztecs from playing with an edge. COOPER'S Penalty is "Up & Downs", that'll teach him!!! LOL

Way to spell out the "consequences" of your actions, coach 😂

Sometimes, tough love is what is needed. Stop trying to be everyones best friend! Tough times, call for tough measures, and your approach is not working. I hope you don't figure this out too late. Mistakes have consequences, and you are not seeing these mistakes get addressed. I am starting to question the approach.

I feel bad for all the other RBs, knowing that Cooper is going to see about 80% or more of the RB touches. That sure won't help recruiting.

It does seem like coach Lewis provided some assurances to his top recruits, which is never a good idea. What's going to happen when/if Kenan Christon gets healthy and is ready for snaps? I think he is still another month out from recovery but seriously, give some other RBs a fair amount of possessions. I have never seen a coach go so "all-in" with just one RB. I would suspect an occasional breather may also make Cooper more effective when he is on the field playing "Aztec Fast."

He won just 4 games his first year. Yes, but it sort of looked like he knew what he was doing. For one year, 2009. He didn't appear to know what he was doing after that year, however. At least when he took over he had a RS sophomore at QB named Ryan Lindley. Also, he didn't have to deal with issues of the portal or NIL. Its a different world nowadays. Now, I was pushing to hire Tony White from Nebraska but I did, and still do, think we made a good choice in Lewis. Despite many G5 coaching openings, White didn't get the call.

That doesn't look very solid to me. But, then again, I said 5 wins this year would be a good season for us.

The D kept the Aztecs in two games at halftime with offenses performances that should have been blowouts for the other school. Hell, both were still winnable well into the third quarter because of the defense If it weren't solid these things never occur. I never said it was a good defense. I said solid. Which is enough to win games most times when the offense has a good game. Not a great game but simply good. Hell an average game from an offense with this D would win most games. The bar ain't that high on Lewis's specialty and yet he's not even headed in the right direction so far.
