Just got home from the game ... O M G The parade of penalties... Sign of a VERY poorly coached, undisciplined team. If there was one thing - ONE THING - I wanted to see this season is a tough minded, highly disciplined team that starts out by not beating themselves before working on beating the opponent. This might be worse than Hoke. Yeah, I know that it's a "rebuild" and it can take time. But if Lewis was a program maker/changer, we would see some things we could hang our hats on, something that would show he's building a solid foundation. I see absolutely nothing so far. I see the extreme opposite of that. I see no sign of promise or optimism. These kids have played football for 10-15 years. The mistakes they make would get them benched in my former HS program. It's a little too early but I'm highly doubting Lewis is "the guy". I mean, you have to be really inept as a Coach for a team to look this bad. Pathetic. Seriously, his team shows signs that he's not a very good coach like a the parade of Pop Warner penalties in the third game of the year mostly on offense. His skill players lack fundamentals like catching footballs and running routes And how he rides Cooper like that's f'n his son. Dude gets flagged for flipping the bird and gets left on the field? That's a coach who doesn't prioritize discipline. And it shows in his offense He's so far not been an offensive guru. Just a fast-talking salesman. He's a helluva salesman. He sold all of us on an innovative offense and gave us penalty machine that can't get out of its own way. The players sure aren't afraid of him or any retributions. When we got stupid penalties, not ones for trying too hard but for being stupid, we got pulled and sat for a while. and the next week in practice those particular players either had to run their ass off or worse, those player's action would make the entire team have to run their asses off.

Cal had almost 500 yards total offense. Defense, tired or not, sucks also. And 15 penalties. This team stinks right now.

A big time receiver comes up with that catch. An avg D1 WR does When it's hits them in the hands it should be a catch This is the expectation for HS WRs today with all the skill training they get I agree.

Yep, there are signs from the players that there's no accountability, especially after Cooper didn't get pulled for at least a play or two. I was expecting Lewis, or some coach to get in his face and let him have it for being selfish and hurting the team, but nope. I was a little shocked by that, that he didn't get pulled. A very undisciplined team, to say the least. I hope Lewis is extremely embarrassed.

Another help wanted in the Daily Aztec this week.
"Help Wanted. Still holding workouts for wide receivers. Speed with hands is a plus."
"Help Wanted. We are looking for offensive linemen that can count, remember the snap count, and can move their feet. Speed and athleticism is a plus."

Holding is going to happen when the guy across the line from you is better, I get that. The constant false start penalties are inexcusable. The holding penalties out in the open when it's not necessary, is really annoying, to say the least. Those ones kill the big gainers, too.

I’m not convinced the head coach isn’t the problem. Aside from the second half against an FCS school, we have scored 6 total points in the other 4 halves of football played so far. Bingo. Some offensive guru he is. What a farce. "AztecFast" ? Sure 🙄 The only 2 things fast are the speed we rack up the stupidest penalties you'll ever see and Lewis talking. Both are WAY too fast. Did Wicker just set out to hire the most opposite guy from Hoke he could find? Starting to look like another eff up by Wicker and ADLTraitor. JD has done some great things with getting Snapdragon built and handling the realignment scenario, but he absolutely sucks at hiring coaches. Thank God that Brian Dutcher's head coach in waiting status was already set before he became AD.

We're three games in. WAY too early to hit the panic button. Even coaches have learning curves. Give him time. If we see these mistakes and results against the MWC teams, THEN you can hit the panic button. But we destroyed the team we were supposed to destroy, so we aren't having Cal Poly III here. That's the first thing to feel OK about. I'm not making any judgments about Coach Lewis until we're a few games into the MWC. If we still look like this at that point we may have a problem. I appreciate the calming approach you're taking, and no one really expected us to beat OSU or Cal after the offseason roster turnover, but the manner in which we're losing is a bad sign. I don't need to repeat what's already been said previously on this thread. It's the same as the last game thread. If we were just coming up short without all the silliness, I wouldn't have a problem, but that's not what's happening. I smell Chuck Long, which is not good.

I was shocked too, but also not surprised The shock because the idea of a football player being left in a game after such a blatant personal foul that cost their team momentum on a drive never occurred to me before this. Not surprised because this is a hallmark of an undisciplined football team. And this is the most undisciplined college football team I've ever seen. Zero accountability. Especially for its stars.

Facts! Also such a childish & stupid personal foul like flipping the other sideline the bird might get a spot on the bench for the rest of the game. That's not even a football related personal foul like a facemask or a late hit. Both of those merit a cool off period on the sideline with some extra coaching. And yet, not a damn thing for this

Bennett showed good hands but that's it. Why isn't Shaw getting in? Shaw is banged up If Shaw is banged up, why is he still being used for punt returns and limited plays on offense? Either he can play or he can't? I would love to see him on the field more, as well as Lucky Sutton.
