Almost like the mental effect of winning the PGA turned him into a Sunday-closer (semi-sarcastically stating the obvious)

He'll pass Littler in Majors. BTW, only 7 players are under par.

There are some recent comments aging really poorly really quickly on some other threads about Xander here on AztecMesa. Amazing back 9!!! 1) They're not that recent. 2) When most of them were posted, they were accurate for where he was at the time. Nobody that I can remember ever said he would never win a Major, they were just collectively frustrated that he couldn't seem to close. And back then, he couldn't. Now he can.

Congratulations to Xander for one of the all-time great closing rounds in a major. Xander threads will now address how many majors, not if.

The comments are a few months old. Try to learn some perspective from this if you can. It’s ok if you can’t but you should consider trying. Golf is extremely hard and winning at this level involves factors that can be out of an individual’s control.

Loved his post-win interview.
He said he felt really calm during the entire back nine, attributing much of his calm to the confidence gained from his win at the PGA. While walking up 18, he turned to Austin his caddy (and former SDSU golf teammate) and mentioned how very calm he felt.
"Oh, really?" Austin said, "because I almost puked on the tee box on 18."

"Champion golfer of the year." Best title in golf. Congrats to Xander. It was a class act as he waited for Austin his caddie to walk the 18th with him.

What an incredible win for Major #2!
I just returned from Scotland late last night. (It was very difficult to get back here, with one missed flight connection.) Along with three other guys, we had Open tickets for the practice rounds plus the first two days of the tournament.
We got to see Xander on Thursday and Friday in the pairing with Tiger and Cantlay, although with the big crowds it was hard to see a lot of the action.

I have been hesitant to name Xander as the best golfer to come out of SDSU given Gene Litler's US Open championship, US Amateur Championship and two playoff runner ups in the PGA and Masters.
But, Xander won the PGA and THE OPEN championship in the same year. You can add an Olympic Gold medal to his count as well.
He is the best golfer from SDSU, no way you can say otherwise now. Needs 4 more majors to eclipse Phil as the best golfer from San Diego. I think he can do that as well. Outstanding game, great mental strength and focus, Winning just one major takes a lot of pressure off. Two? Now he will expect to win again.
Also have to say to those of you who thought Xander should replace Austin. You were wrong. He has done a great job with Xander and Xander not only likes him, but trusts him.
