There are tons of golfers within striking distance entering day 4, this won't be an easy one to win. I think Xander will need to shoot a 65 or better to earn his first major. Crazy to think it's likely going to take -20 or better to win a major. Talk about a defenseless course.

The PGA Major Tournament courses are always softer than the U.S. Open courses. I love watching players try to get their ball out of U.S. Open rough and putt on some of the absurdly fast and hilly greens.
The Open (British)is generally harder because they're links courses and you usually get that windy, rainy weather accompanying it. Agusta is Agusta and they keep changing it whenever players and/or equipment technology starts to bring the course to her knees.
I think the PGA doesn't want to make their PGA Pros who play in the tournament look too bad out there so the courses are still beautiful and iconic but not nearly as difficult as the other majors.

True but the average winning score at the last 3 PGA championship has been -7. The all-time record is -20. Xander's -15 he started today with would have won 19 of the PGAs since 2000. Needing to shoot this low is extremely rare.

Man, Xander not making putts again today ... continuing from the back 9 yesterday. He missed short birdie putt on 3, another lip out ... is that 3 over the past 13-14 holes?
Several other putts over the past 14 that have missed by an inch or less.
Guys behind him are making putts right and left from all distances, there are an increasing number of top golfers bunched right behind him.
Hovland just sank a 20 footer, 3rd birdie in a row for him to move into a tie with Dechambeau at -16, I behind X.
Xander just saved par to hold on to a hold a share of the lead.
I fear unless he gets on a 3-4 birdie run, he's going to have a hard time getting his first major. C'mon Xander, guys are stepping it up right on left today ... you gotta be one of them.

He’s 2 under through six holes… Yes, but he can really stretch out his lead if his putter gets hot. Every stroke of wiggle room is big. As I'm typing this, he hits a birdie putt to go to -3 through 7. No bogies. Excellent. He also saved par with a longer putt made. Maybe this is a run for him where his putter get consistent, hot even. Now up by 2 at -18 with Dechambeau and Hovland both at -16.

Birdies 9, -4 under 31 out ...-19 overall, lead back to 2 strokes.
Tremendous. He's now hit 3 big putts, 9 holes to go ...
Let's go Xander!!

The quality of that leader board is pretty dramatic.

The quality of that leader board is pretty dramatic. Yeah, it's ridiculous. Studs all of them. Hovland scaring me, He looks really dialed in and his putter is nails today. Xander mucking up the easiest hole on the course, very questionable 2nd shot out of the fairway bunker. In hindsight, the TV folks were correct, he should've laid up and played it clean for a birdie. Seems like he got greedy thinking he could have a shot at an eagle. Ugh

Bogey on easiest hole on the course. Come on Xander, suck it up!

Bogey on easiest hole on the course. Come on Xander, suck it up! He'll never forgive himself if that costs him the tournament. Seems like he got greedy on that 2nd shot. If he plays safer, a birdie is likely. Instead a bogey ... 2 stroke difference Ugh Like Coach Fisher said, "don't let one loss become 2." He needs a "next" shot mentality

Comes back with birdie on 11!! If someone does beat him, I hope it’s Hovland and not DeChambeau. Not a fan of the LIV guys.

Birdie on 12! 1 shot lead with 6 holes left.

DeChambeau drives it way out of the fairway but it hits a tree and bounces back into the damn middle of the fairway, he then hits an iron to three feet and birdies. He and Hovland are one back with both having two holes to play. Xander has four to play.

This is nerve-racking!
Xander will likely need at least one more birdie. It may come down to how the three leaders play the Par 5 18th, where anything can happen.

Hovland and Dechambeau, both miss birdie putts and get pars. Xander has a great two putt for par and has three holes to go, the other guys have one. But it’s an easy par five.

Going to come down to 18. Bryson and Hovland likely birdie. Xander is going to have to birdie one of the last three to avoid a playoff.

Tee shot on 17 ... you gotta be kidding me!!
Probably takes a birdie out of it. He needs to get a par here. Then birdie 18. No pressure... 😓
