Wish him the best. He gave us four years and he is likely going to not only get more money, but more visibility. I hope it works out for him and he will always be an Aztec for life.
On a side note, so glad he didn't go play for that A-HOLE at USC.

Sounds like most people are fine with being a P5 feeder program. Have you donated to Aztec Mesa Foundation?

Fire Sale on "The Shot" memorabilia? I'm going to be looking for buying one at a discount. It is still a legacy moment for the program.

And, no, I am not happy about him leaving but y'all better get used to this because it is happening in FB and BB and even guys leaving programs with more history and money than us. I think it will hurt collegiate sports in the short term at the very least.
We lost Butler and Parrish to the portal and brought in Boyd and Jones. Seems to be a decent trade for now. I am sure Dutch will bring in another guard. I have heard that we should expect one more to enter the portal. If that is Johnson that gives us an opportunity to upgrade.

Sounds like most people are fine with being a P5 feeder program. I know it’s a reality now but I am going sugar coat it. What are we supposed to do? Piss and moan or do the best we can with what we have. If I was a billionaire our problems would all be solved. Well, what's stopping you?

Cade left for playing time not for cash. Kevin Sabo Aztec for life. So it's more about being a greedy bastard in your opinion? Would you leave this message board for another for 100K? I'll go to a new message board for a free shirt. 100K?!?! I'll join Only Fans. Butler is an Aztec for Life. Will be rooting for him next year. He will be missed.

Could have been a San Diego legend. Tarnished his legacy for cash. To each his own. Hope it was worth it once all the cash is spent. Already is a San Diego legend.

Considering how quick this was finalized, a suspicious person might think that he had no intent of returning to the Aztecs. That was another falsehood. The deal was done before they announced his intention to transfer. There was no chance he was coming back to SDSU. They put that in the statement to try to soften the blow.

Butler gave me my best Aztec sporting moment and memory since my Dad took me to Aztec sporting events in the early 70's. He played four years and has no reason to apologize or give a reason for going to another school for one more year. Grab the brass ring in his last year at Kentucky since he won't be playing in the NBA, but hopefully in Europe. His senior leadership will be missed. Lamont will more than double the NIL money he made last year. You can be upset at his father's comments, I wish he would stay out of media and living his life through Lamont-sounds like Kenan Christon's father going to the press. Pope is a good coach and saw Butler for the last four years and knows what he's getting.
I spoke to Lamont numerous times over the last few years at the football games. He is very approachable and gracious and always had a smile on his face. He will always be an Aztec For Life.
I'll be rooting for him except if we ever play against UK.

From what I’ve heard it was his dad pushing him to leave since after the title game. Lamont probably may stayed if not for him pushing for it.

Being a school that develops talent and feeds into blue bloods (Arizona, Kentucky) is just a natural evolution of our program.
Look at the bright side.
Kids will come here, as HS or Transfers, then work their way up to Power 4 or Power 2 programs.
We will make adjustments, with the changing landscape.

If true, then I believe, the dad, with more life experiences and trying to advise son, take the money (bird in hand), as there are few sure things in life are. Two I can name are: 1. Family 2. Money Those are what matter, when all said and done, at the end of the day (or on your death bed). Lamont and Keshad will always be welcomed in SD and SDSU. Let's not forget in the pros, players switch teams like a swinger party -- it's just a natural part of the game, these days. Don't hate the players, hate the game?

The five stages grief: - Denial
- Anger (anger is a bit too strong; but you get the jest) <= feels like some are here
- Bargaining
- Depression
- Acceptance <= feels like others are here

Legacy is something money can’t buy. If Lamont stayed and really went off next year and led SDSU to another deep run in the tournament he would have been an all time great with a key to the city and his jersey retired to the rafters. Now there is no chance of that. He will have a few hundred grand extra than what he would have made at SDSU. He and Keshad can come back to SDSU but they won’t be received like they would have if they would have finished their careers as Aztecs and not Wildcats. That will get spent and be gone. Everyone has different priorities but loyalty and legacy should be at the top of the list.
