Agreed. He played here the requisite four years. Can't wait until the "Covid year" expires for all. Sounds to me like he could have left last year for more money and stayed. He is an Aztec for life to me! Update it to: Aztec for 4 years.

Good for him. Kentucky is in full rebuild mode after Calipari left. I know Utah St. did it quickly but I don't think Pope will do as well as Calipari did this year in his first year. Also very high expectations at Kentucky, hence the reason Calipari left. Some have opined that the pressure on Butler after making the shot (I think self induced) led to his down year this year. What do you think Kentucky fans will do if he starts the year off like this year shooting 28% from 3 and under 50% from the FT line? SDSU fans are much more laid back as a whole. Maybe not the ones on Aztec Mesa but we have never booed as far as I can recall. Won't be the same in Kentucky. When Kentucky misses the NCAA tournament we'll have a ticket for Lamont to come watch us next year when we are in it.

His legacy is stamped... Aztec for Life and legend. Could he have elevated his San Diego fame to unknown levels if he stayed and helped take us on another March Madness run, yeah probably. Instead he's using his extra allotted year to presumably get paid and I can't be mad at that.
I'm really hoping he finds his offense in a new system and team for his future prospects... also Aztec fans are crazy, BBN has is on a whole different level. They expect production.

He is an Aztec for life to me! From what I’ve heard his dad wanted him to leave after the title game. Thought he was worth more elsewhere.

think you might want to extra year to continue as it really helped the mid majors more then the schools that get the One and Done Schools
SDSU in it s run to MM Finals had Matt B - Nathan M - Seiko - AG - ... and this past year had Ledee - DT - Jay Pal
Schools that have players that can really use that extra year
So I maybe in the minority but do think it helps more then it hinders SDSU

The term “for life” have a meaning. Sure, he is a local legend. Tony G was an Aztec for Life. Let’s not joke around and compare a few good years and some glory to true commitment. I’m not bitter. I hope he loved San Diego and will cherish the memories. Best of luck to him.

Sounds like most people are fine with being a P5 feeder program.

Not one ounce of his legacy here is tarnished. Agreed. He played here the requisite four years. Can't wait until the "Covid year" expires for all. We probably don't go to our first ever E8/F4/Natty game without the "Covid year."

Sounds like most people are fine with being a P5 feeder program. I know it’s a reality now but I am going sugar coat it. What are we supposed to do? Piss and moan or do the best we can with what we have. If I was a billionaire our problems would all be solved.

Has to be more than 400K right? Maybe $500,000, if Kentucky doesn’t do what Ohio State did to parish. Lamont traded in lifetime San Diego legend status for a couple hundred grand that will be gone in a few years

And don’t give me the “Better shot at the NBA” garbage either. SDSU gets plenty of players drafted and playing in the NBA. That excuse is just a cover for leaving for cash.

What’s the big deal about having a special designation for players who spend their entire career here. It’s pretty common in every other sport to have a special term to highlight a player who was with a team their whole career. People get so butthurt about everything this days.

For it’s really not about staying their whole career but that they finish their careers at SDSU. LeDee is a great example. I consider him an Aztec for Life. Thames and Flynn too.

Former Kentucky Players in the NBA = 28, Former San Diego State players in the NBA = 3 SDSU has had at least 5 NBA players that I know of. It doesn’t matter where you go to school anyway. If you are good enough to play in the NBA they will find you if you are at Kentucky or SDSU. Lamont isn’t an NBA player anyway. He’s a Euro player for sure.
