Aztec for life and Aztec legend.
Best guess the league evaluations weren’t promising, so he pivots to cash in on NIL.
It hurts but I’ll be rooting for him.

Gosh, I like Butler and he did make "the shot." But, if he ends up leaving I'm pretty sure we will be alright. He played great defense for us but was't exactly Stephen Curry on offense.

Butler’s play was as inconsistent as Parish’s play last season. I wish he would stay but we don’t always get what we want.
We will be fine with the guards that we have on the roster.
Waters Boyd Byrd Davis
There is a lot of talent to work with there for a backcourt. The greatest need remains the paint.

I knew it!! I said somewhere in here that I left Lamont had one foot out the door the last month or 2 of the season!
I hope he gets what he wants.
The Aztecs are in good hands with Byrd, Boyd, Davis and new comers.

Absolutely brutal. Keshad was just the beginning, now it’s gonna snowball from here. Man I was just upset about potentially not getting Mady Sissoko, now we have massive holes all over next years roster. Wow wow wow. You ate seriously overhyping Sissoko. Losing Butler on the other hand hurts. Ha, I'm not overhyping him or underhyping him, it seems to me the bigs we've been linked to are all sort of just average, Sissoko included. They each do 1 or 2 things well and can all play a small role though, and it's still a bummer to me when a player the coaching staff targets chooses an inferior program like Cal. But ya, the disappointment from Sissoko (which isn't a done deal yet to be fair) is a far cry from the Butler disappointment.

From hundreds to...hundreds? I would be surprised if the staff was caught off guard by this announcement. Highly. If they weren’t surprised then how come we haven’t brought any addition guards in over the last couple weeks? Clearly Boyd isn’t enough there. They’ve only been bring in centers lately. We brought in Boyd. He is a PG. We have Davis as well. Byrd as a #2. Who knows who we may bring in to replace Butler but I really don't think the coaching staff was caught blindsided on this.

I’m not sure why people are assuming he’s leaving. People need to wait until when or if he leaves to jump off the cliff.

Boyd Byrd Waters Saunders Heide / Portal Oof. That’s definitely not a tournament team. Will we see what magic Dutch can pull off.

I’m not sure why people are assuming he’s leaving. People need to wait until when or if he leaves to jump off the cliff. Lamont isn't going to The League. And I'm not entirely sure, given his shaky offensive game, that Europe is calling. If he can make $500k in NIL... definitely he should go for it.

Don’t need anyone with an eye looking elsewhere. I don’t think Coach Dutch digs on players looking to leave and stay. It’s horrible for the locker room.

He gave us 4 years, so I'm OK if he wants to cash in for his 5th year.

Boyd Byrd Waters Saunders Heide / Portal Oof. That’s definitely not a tournament team. Will we see what magic Dutch can pull off. Those are just the ones who got significant playing time last year. Now add: BJ Davis Goon Pharoah Compton Taj DeGourville Thokbor Majak And then we still have 2 scholarships available, three if Johnson transfers.

Butler deserves to do what he wants to do
BUT
why wait so long to make the decision to enter the Portal
has there also been any official thoughts on what Waters will do
would also add that Shay could be a safety valve if SDSU can not sign a quality 5

Butler has earned the right to do whatever he wants. He brought us further than we've ever gone and 4 years of effort. It's heartbreaking to see him go because he is our forever poster child, and was our bulldog on D. Those players are just very rare. I'll hold out for my 1% chance he returns but he is about to get courted by the nations top teams.

Absolutely stunned. You could knock me over with a feather right now. I'm assuming his NBA eval didn't go well and he's looking to cash in on NIL. You think, yep!! Guys can make life-changing money now, even without the NBA, or going overseas. You can't blame Lamont, Keshad, or even Micah. COVID gave them another year, NIL paid them for it.
