I'm assuming the NBA draft isn't affecting who's left in the portal or people waiting for transfer dominoes to fall? Why do you think nothing seems to be happening on that front? I would think players would want to get to their new teams as soon as possible. I think there's a very fine line for players transferring, like you don't want to take the first offer that comes your way in hopes of getting a better NIL deal, but if they wait too long then the majority of rosters are built out and the demand isn't as high as when coaches were scrambling trying to get their guys. I think there are still deals to be had for solid players this late in the game, they just may have to temper their big NIL payday expectations a bit. Hoping we can nab on of em.

I think there's maybe 1-2 bigger name players still figuring out where to go (Kaluma, Coleman Hawkins just recently committed to KSU). Once all the big fish are out of the pond the teams that were looking will either take what's left over or roll with what they got. It's been a holding pattern to see where these guys go.

adding this post from a previous thread, as it makes sense here too. The Aztecs are in discussions with 6'2", 225-pound shooting guard Tyler Cochran from Toledo, Ohio. As a 5th-year senior, Cochran played in 32 games, averaging 30 minutes per game. He demonstrated solid shooting skills with a 50% field goal percentage, 35% from three-point range, and 70% from the free-throw line. His stats include an average of 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Cochran has previously played for Northern Illinois, Ball State, and Toledo. Cochran was the MAC DPOY.
Final 8: SDSU AZTECS, Ohio State, Toledo, Fresno State, Hawaii, Marshall, Drake & Indiana State. Committed to Oregon State, then re-opened. "San Diego State is a defensive focused team, and after losing Lamont Butler to Kentucky in the transfer portal it stands to reason a player like Cochran – last year’s MAC Defensive Player of the Year who has averaged over 1.5 steals per game in each of the past four seasons – would fit Brian Dutcher’s system. However, the Aztecs already added a trio of smaller guards via the portal in Nicholas Boyd (Florida Atlantic), Wayne McKinney (San Diego), and Kimo Ferrari (Brown) – along with incoming freshman Taj Degourville, so playing time might be tough to come by for Cochran." collegesportswire.usatoday.com/lists/transfer-portal-tyler-cochran-ohio-state-basketball/

I can see the Aztecs interest.

I don't think Kimo was brought in here with the realistic hope of a regular spot in the rotation. But after watching Taj handle the ball at Swish, I think the Aztecs look pretty good at G with Taj, Boyd, Davis and McKinney. And you could always put Waters at SG too.
I guess it would be better having an "extra" guard who's a lockdown defender than not using the scholarship at all.

think Dutcher is willing to reach out to see who might be interested but with the unlimited transfer portal and not sitting - a coach might want to make sure his thoughts are also on some of the current Aztecs - Bryd and Davis - are they going to get a good amount of PT or will they be exiting - same for Taj
Realize the player transferring from the East back home is a walk on and the transfer from USD is another basic addition but balancing 11-13 players is not easy keeping the players you might have for the future are going to want to get some PT

I am happy he found a home. Hope it works out for him. He is a good player. I just think we have those positions filled out with plenty of players. If he was 6'10 and could block shots than I would be more interested.

Dutcher has already added guards from FAU and USD - so doubtful there was room for another guard

Per Dutcher with the NIL and Transfer rules - he is less likely to add another transfer just to use the scholarship He likes his younger players and does not want to take away PT from the younger guys - can only keep so many players happy with PT
This will be one of the younger teams SDSU has had in a while so a lot of coaching and on the job training for the players
One of the Nevada websites has SDSU rated as #7 in the MW
