We'll have a solid core with Byrd, Saunders, Heide, probably Waters, maybe Parrish, maybe Lamont, but a lot of our success will come with our two bigs who we've never seen play before. Hopefully a big offseason for them to add weight and college toughness will be a benefit, but I'm certain there will be a significant learning curve with them, similar to Miles Byrds. A great play here and there will wow us, but there will likely be a lot of face palm's in the process. I feel like DeGourville and Compton as frosh both bring what we lack this year which is toughness, so I suspect we'll see them get some run too. A PG and scoring guard should be top of Dutch's off season transfer shopping list, as well as an experienced big man. You are forgetting to mention Magoon Gwath though you do say "two bigs." He and Heide will split time at the 5. Saunders will likely start at the 4. Majak is supposed to have enough of an outside game to play the 4 as well. Pharaoh could be another freshman that will challenge for minutes and I think he slots in at the 4 too, he does have a mature body. That is a pretty big front two. Waters should be back and I see him starting again. Parrish can come back if he wants to, same with Butler. Byrd should spend the offseason working on his shooting but I see him as a DPOY type player already. BJ Davis will be given a chance to challenge for a starting job. DeGourville will have an opportunity to challenge for some minutes. We most definitely need to bring in some guards, at least two, even if Butler returns. If Parrish leaves then we need another shooting forward. I have to think that Johnson will likely transfer to some program where he can play some minutes. To me, I see us being a very attractive destination for the type of players we will need next year.

*************** I'm with you on most but you are seeing Johnson way different than EVERYONE. He has no game. He gets zero minutes and that alone tells how the coaching staff views him. He was speaking about Keshad. No his wasn’t.

Let's stop with NIL Money, Covid-19 excuses and etc.. Uh, what happened to recruiting Players? I would use the Covid-19 and Portal Transfer to get my Undergraduate and Mater Degrees!! Can you make sone decent MMONEY playing overseas? Of course, you can!! Aztecs have always had a RIM Protector! SDSU Coaching Staff needs to recruit one, find one and/or develop one!! Next year MBB Team and thereafter, will struggle until guards, forwards and center positions are addressed. Aztecs Teams from 2013 have been living off the success of the 2010-2011 Aztecs!! Arguably, the BEST TEAM in San Diego State's History!! Can you imagine the 2010-2011 Team playing the current NCAA's BUM Teams across the US?? The rim protector would be Gwath. He may have played this year if not for his injury.

I think next year you have Byrd, Waters and Saunders to build around. Then it’s who’s the next 5-6. Butler and his family seem like great people but he’s got one more year to make a case for a pro career and I don’t think our offensive system is good for him. I think he leaves and I won’t blame him. I don’t think Davis is ready to take over so they need a portal PG. Gwath and Heide are probably still at a point in their careers where coming off the bench might still be the best so they’ll be looking for a big man in the portal. Do we see Heide redshirt? He’s got a lot of potential and still growing but has a lot of work to do. If they can bring someone in it might be a good thing for him. I do expect Compton and DeGourville to get minutes. Heide isn't redshirting? Are you daft?

I’m still waiting for you to show me where Dutcher said he was one. Majak is a rim protector he doesn’t have the outside game. That is Gwath. Where are you getting you’re recruiting information?

I didn't read many of the previous comments. I feeling really good about Byrd all he needs is 10-15 more pounds. And I have high hopes for Saunders. I'm excited what Gwath brings to the court. We are going to be ok and go dancing next year also.

That would allow Magoon to get some much needed playing time to start his D1 development as well as allowing Heide to continue getting more experience without the pressure of having to be "the man." Why is everyone keeps on saying Magoon going to be a center. Seriously, he is a finesse 4. Thokbor Majak is a center. He is raw and will have to redshirt. So clearly SDSU needs a a senior center transfer. Heide (who I think will be good as a junior and senior) will take over as the starter. Then have Majak back up Heide. I didn't say Magoon is a center. I don't know about everyone else, but when I see a guy who's 7 feet tall I just assume he's a center, or 5 as they say now days. After your comment I looked it up on goaztecs.com and I see he's listed there as a forward, but so is Heide. So my statement stands as posted.

hopefully still a lot of games to be played and who knows for sure what any of the current guys who are able to play again next season will decide to do about where they will be playing next season
All we know for sure is that the Super Seniors will be gone
While there was a tease about MG this season there have not been any articles since - other then the early reports that was that he liked playing the 3 ( by the way wasn't the top draft choice for the NBA last season over 7 Ft but does not want to play the 5
on the HS recruits - think there have been articles saying that Compton did fairly well even during his team' s playoffs - fills a strong need rebounding and scoring near the basket .
Have not heard that much about the other 2 HS recruits
Bryd has been very good on defense - and is a 85% FT but his three point shooting is about 28% -
As we all know NIL money can be quite tempting - and the Transfer Portal

With 2023/2024 now officially behind us and the 2024/2025 season upon us, it's time to delve into Aztec Roster eligibility. Firmly, we find ourselves with just one vacant roster spot, pending the potential returns of Lamont Butler and Micah Parrish to the Mesa. Reese Waters has already confirmed his return to the red and black, adding to our roster solidity.
So, as of today we only have a single spot for a transfer, however, we could get to as many as three new players, or more. Only time will tell.
1 year remaining (if they choose) 1. Lamont Butler PG 6'2" 2. Micah Parrish SG/F 6'6" 3. Reese Waters SG/F 6'6"
2 years remaining 4. Myles Bird SG/F 6'7" 5. Elijah Saunders PF 6'8" 6. Demarshay Johnson PF/C 6'9"
3 years remaining 7. Miles Hiede PF/C 6'10" 8. BJ Davis PG 6'1
4 years remaining 9. Pharoah Compton PF 6'8" 10. Tag Degourville CG 6'5" 11. Thokbor Majak PF/C 7'0" 12. Magoon Gwath PF/C 7'0"
Remaining spot 13. ---- TBD ----

To me, I see us being a very attractive destination for the type of players we will need next year. Yes, his 3-pt shooting definitely needs work BUT, I'd rather have him work on his functional passing. He can make specular Sports-Center highlight passes one time for every 5 times he tries them. But so many of the unsuccessful passes end up being TOs. Just get the ball to the intended target efficiently. And he can also work on finishing fast-breaks. Either make his hand bigger to more solidly control the ball for dunks or learn to effectively lay it in to assure at least 2 points and maybe an and-1 where he can utilize his excellent FT%. I love his defensive skills already, especially his ability to deflect, block or intercept balls. He's got great energy on the court and with the rest of the team. And just a small enough chip on his shoulder that he won't get very many T's but will get in an opponent's face now and then to rile up his teammates.

Please and I love DT, but no more midgets or little people for high level D1 basketball. And, I only mean this in the kindest way because DT has the heart of a champion, but he was limited. I don't want to see any more switches on our under 5'10" guards. NO MAS. I don't care how good they were in the BigWest or WAC or whatever. It really hindered us this season on switches, and we need to make changes to make it to the next level or echelon of basketball. I will take DT any day of the week, but not as a starter or playing major minutes.

Would like to see Lamont return for a 5th year. Creates automatic stability and grooms BJ for 1 more year. BJ should be playing 10-12 mpg I hope.
Add a true-shooter (to come off the bench as 6th or 7th man). Don't care if he doesn't play defense. Don't care if he comes from DII... or the cornfields of Iowa / driveways of Indiana.
Lamont, Byrd, Reese, Elijah and Heide (or transfer)... is a pretty decent starting 5. Sprinkle in Compton, BJ, Gwath/Majak and the transfer portal and we end up back in March Madness.

At a lower tier D1 program he can get minutes on his physical attributes. assuming I am corr3ct, that is 2 scholarships available.
