what would you guess is the best position for Bryd to be a starter at ?
- In addition he only played in a few games in his true Freshman year and was injured for most of the end of the season and did Not play - Could he apply for a medical red shirt and possibly still have 3 years to play ?
would also add that it seems strange that Football allows a player to play is it up to 4 games of their 12 game schedule and still consider it a red shirt season - why not allow that for basketball ?
Has it also been officially announced that both Waters and Parrish will return to SDSU ?

I'd probably put Byrd in at "SF / point-forward", starting alongside Butler & Waters (based on 'current' roster). If Butler & Waters both come back, and we get a REALLY good, experienced PG/CG transfer... then it might be TBD, Butler, Waters -- with Byrd as the '6th man' off the bench and basically a 6th starter for all practical purposes.
(The above scenarios with Saunders as starting PF, plus Heide or TBD transfer Center)

has there been any official announcements about what Butler - Waters and Parrish are going to be doing ?
Butler has said he will get NBA evaluation but after that will he come back to a school be it SDSU or enter the transfer Portal ?
Having 3 guys who could be starters makes the guessing of positions for starters a real ?
those 3 while not exactly having their best seasons last year - do bring a lot of experience and would all be playing in what could be their last opportunity for the NBA - more motivated
Know Compton is going to be a true freshman this up coming season but could he provide the player that provides a good amount of rebounds at PF . ? Think he comes into college with the frame needed for college - so could be a solid player in the rotation and believe he likes to play close to the basket ?
MG is still a question as to his frame and abilities on both ends of the court as to where he will fit in and so may the other 7 ft freshman - is he ready to contribute or can SDSU get an experienced 5 ?
Still to be determined the development of Heide - Saunders - Bryd as full time players ?
Lobos and BSU - are already reloading and is UNLV ready to be in the top of the MW
SDSU has the Zags - rated in the top 10 coming to SDSU - how competitive will the remainder of the OOC be ?
So the next month or two for finishing the SDSU roster should be interesting to watch as it finishing the roster
in addition - who might Dutcher add to the staff ?

As far as Butler and key dates, 4/27 was the early entry deadline, and 5/29 is the withdrawal date to return to school. The NBA draft is on 6/27 & 6/28 and free-agent negotiations start on 6/30. All your other questions/statements are pure speculation. As far as the MWC, UNM may return the most proven core nucleus with Dent/Toppin/Joseph/Azmil/Washington.

correct - not many of the players from last year had incredible years so it is all about who might be able to improve from last year
The Portal not that easy for Dutcher to sign players until Butler - Parrish - Waters make official statements about next season - see BSU did add a guard that SDSU might have wanted - who might want to make sure they were going to get a starting position or a very good amount of PT
Aztecs also have 3 true freshmen and 1 red shirt freshman - will they be able to contribute this season ?
So a lot of maybe's or TBD

This from Dutcher via the SDUT Sports - Aztecs, April 11, 2024
A year ago, Dutcher said that if players entered the portal he would actively replace them, not wanting someone with one foot in and one foot out of the program. But he has also indicated it’s a case-by-case situation and he’ll be as patient as possible.
“Once the portal opens, we’ll recruit like no one is coming back,” Dutcher said last month. “We’ll find out what it is. We’ll get involved with as many good players as we can, then see who is coming back and what our needs are. We can’t wait for that.”

Let's quickly review the six recruits we've offered for the class of 2025. Here's a rundown of their size and their rankings by rivals:
- Brayden Burris, Shooting Guard, 6’5” and 185 lbs, ranked #19 - Xavion Staton, Center, 7’0” and 225 lbs, ranked #21 - Chris Nwuli, Power Forward, 6’8” and 205 lbs, ranked #23 - Mazi Mosley, Combo Guard, 6’5” and 165 lbs, ranked #43 - JJ Mandaquit, Point Guard, 6’2” and 190 lbs, ranked #81 - Jalin Holland, Shooting Guard, 6’4” and 185 lbs, not ranked
All of these athletes showcase exceptional talent and skills. Additionally, our understanding of what we can offer them in terms of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities is limited, apart from the current $2,000 per month stipend. Notably, five out of the six players are ranked within the Rivals Top 100.

This past season it went up to $50,000 for some and I assume above $2,000/month for most. From a 3/31/24 Zeigler UT article: "The MESA Foundation had a $350,000 budget for the 2022-23 season, and every scholarship player received roughly $2,000 per month. This season, the budget nearly doubled and top players got $50,000 total. Smith says they are approaching $1 million for next season."

Difficult to put together what the SDSU starters might look like until Water and Butler confirm what they are going to do
Believe that SDSU has the 2 scholarships available 1 to replace Cade Alger = Need to find an experienced play at the 5 position and then 1 player to replace Parrish will that be a player at the 2/3 position ?
Very difficult to sign a quality 5 - with the NIL situations
Also until Butler makes a decision - not that easy to recruit a PG
Same for what Waters might do
Believe a player has to enter the Portal by May 1 but can sign at any time just so they get registered for classes at their new school before Fall Semester

If Dutcher is sitting around waiting, and isn't recruiting PG's, then he is not doing his job. Obviously, he knows what he knows, but to wait for two young kids in this day n age, would be derelict in his duty. Only going back to(supposedly waiting for Menseh) would/should be lesson learned?

It is getting frustrating watching talented transfers commit every hour on on3.com, and we have nothing. Dutch has earned the benefit of the doubt, but I know I'm ready to hear some good news from the portal.

If I had Kawhi's number, I'd also call him and tell him to snap off a couple of million to the Mesa Foundation. Neither would likely take my call.

Do not think there has been anything official about Waters and Lamont and I think that the guys have until May 1 to enter the Portal
Do not think there has been any notes that they have made any comments to Dutcher - although some believe that there have been conversations
Transfer Portal - the leverage is all in the hands of the players = There are PG's in the Portal but would guess that some PG's might have the idea that Butler will comeback and feel that if there are schools competing for the same PG's as SDSU then they will very likely remind those players
In addition - NIL can effect numerous guys so it is a battle for Dutcher
The players enter the Portal - SDSU send a note of some kind to see if they have any interest if they do not respond to SDSU they SDSU can try to follow but if the player says no - then SDSU might just have to move on to those players that said they have some interest - the players have the leverage Does not do any good to try to get a player that does not want to come here . In addition some might be scared off as they hear all the time if you do not play defense you can forget SDSU
any thoughts if SDSU might benefit from adding a coach to replace Acker - or is this kind of kept behind closed doors ?

Do not think Dutcher and the staff are sitting around waiting to recruit PG's and not doing his job
They can be reaching out to to numerous players - including PG 's But if there is not the interest by players - including PG's then you are not likely to be able to recruit them - be it NIL Money or until there is an announcement from Butler that he is not coming back or he is - PG's are not going to look at SDSU and schools are going to tell transfer players that SDSU has their top PG coming back - until he says he will not .
SDSU has been to MM numerous times but so are other teams and some play in P6 conferences - some have a bundle of NIL money and other fringe benefits . The MW is not the best conference and if you listen to broadcasters SDSU requires you to play defense and some players worry more about their offensive stats to get into the Pros
So recruiting may not be as easy as some may think

Seems the Aztecs have zeroed in on Boyd. Now it’s just a wait and see with him.
The other scholarship seems like it’s going to go to a 6’7-6’9 guy who can rebound.
We only have two scholarships right now. If Butler decides to go pro then there’s another. Given Johnson is still working out with the team and the portal closes in less than 2 weeks, don’t expect him to put his name in.

We have two very tall guys who will play in the next two years as well as at least two 6'8" power forwards who'll get playing time. I'm sure he likes his teammates and experiencing winning but I don't want someone here who's satisfied coming off the bench every 3 or 4 games for a few minutes at the end of games.
