The two I refer to are Joe Biden and Donald Trump. With respect to the first, my answer is definitely "yes". For the second, my answer is "probably yes". My belief is based solely on whether the age of each hinders their ability to serve as POTUS, not my political opinion of the pair. (As to the latter issue, I am appalled that this country is probably forced to decide on two such appalling candidates.)
As to the ability of both men, my belief is one on which I am well qualified to opine. I am, you see, one month and four days older than Joe Biden. I will be 82 this October; Biden will be 82 the next month. If he were to serve a full second term, he would be 86 on inauguration day 2028.
Here's the thing; when you are 80, you are much, much less physically capable than you were at 60, 65, even at 70. It's not even close.
Here's what I am facing. I used to ride my bicycle. No more. My balance has deteriorated markedly. No more bikes for me. I have had a series of falls: one with a cracked rib and one that necessitated five stiches in my left hand.
But it's not just balance and falls. My stamina is way, way down. I does not take much to tire me out. Of course, being retired means I can rest. But what if I were POTUS?
I should add that my general health is pretty good for an octogenarian. My blood pressure is quite low, which is very good. on the negative side, I confess to being more than a bit overweight.
Overall, I am in pretty good shape for someone my age. But being my age means that I could never even consider taking on a job as stressful as President of the United States. I could not even handle being a teacher, which I was for virtually all my working career.
So what about Joe Biden? Do I have to point to the many times the man has fallen, appeared lost on stage, forgotten some one's name?
Even if you think he can manage another year on the hardest job on planet, what about the next four years? Let's be honest; he should never have agreed to run for another term.
How about Donald Trump? He will be 78 this coming June. He would the oldest person elected to the presidency in history. He would be 82 in January, 2029. I think that he has not shown serious signs of bad health, but all I said about Biden's risks of serving another four years apply to Trump as well.
Take my word as an octogenarian, both Biden and Trump are too old to be president.

AzWm One is "definitely" too old, but the other one (who would turn 79 the same year he was elected) isn't? Biden was 78 when he started this term. Be serious, please. Your political leanings *do* play a part, as is the case with anyone's built-in biases. Trump's cognitive decline is apparent to anyone who has watched a speech or looked at him recently. He allegedly fell as recently as last week. I get it, Biden is old. Luckily, presidents are surrounded by dozens of people who aid in running the country on a daily basis. The problem isn't even Trump's age, it's the ridiculous and absurd level of danger he represents coming back into office.

Biden looks very old and frail. Most of the country sees this, many Dems choose to disregard these signs because they simply want to see four more years of the current administration. Biden looks shot and I have to wonder who pulls the strings and sets the agenda if not Sleepy Joe. Falling on the stairs of Air Force One and eating $#it on his bicycle and falling asleep during a memorial service in Maui are INCREDIBLY BAD OPTICS and definitely NOT presidential. The guy should have retired over a decade ago, but his wife’s lust for power keeps him showing up for political events.
Trump seems a bit on the stout/overweight side, but he does appear spry and energetic. We have all seen him in action as President and regardless of all the Dem predictions of Military Armageddon and economic disaster he was an effective leader and can handle the job. If not for the fear generated by the pandemic, Trump would have probably won a second term. His worst enemy is his own big mouth. His huge win and high energy campaign in Iowa are definitely positive signs he still has the juice to be president.

First of all, you have ignored what I said ultimately with respect to both candidates. Namely, that both are too old to be President. Of course, you cannot help yourself from taking shots at Trump. I get it; Trump is Hitler. Okay, that's fine when the discussion is about the two candidate's relative merits.
Actually, there is not too much that can be said against Trump that I would take issue with. But I see Biden as every bit a threat to this country as Trump. (What I find ironic is that I consider Bill Clinton to have been preferable to both current frontrunners. I say with even greater emphasis that I consider JFK to have been even more preferable.)
You say in your reply that Luckily, presidents are surrounded by dozens of people who aid in running the country on a daily basis. That is one of most damning statements about the current administration that could possibly be made. One of the most serious defects in our current government is that far too many decisions that affect the American people are made by faceless, unelected bureaucrats. That apparently does not worry you. Unless, of course, those bureaucrats represent a political persuasion different from your own.
Or to put it another way, just who the hell is in charge of the American government? I my view, the man in the White House is a mere place holder. There is no reason to believe that he will be any more the real man in charge as he stumbles his way into his mid-eighties.
With respect to health, Trump's appears to me to be better than Biden's when the latter took office. But, okay, have it your way. Let's say that Trump is senile and at death's door. I agree with you that Trump should not be President.
I stand by my view that neither man should be POTUS.

And here we go with the straw man nonsense. Nowhere did I say Trump was Hitler in my response. Anywhere. You said "One is too old, the other is probably too old" - Yet the second person is OLDER than the first person who was inaugurated three years ago. It makes no sense. You're anti-Biden, it's fine, but it completely destroys your entire argument in the very next sentence. How, on any planet, are those two men the same in terms of threats to this country? One of them is pushing the largest mass deportation event in human history. One of them is vilifying immigrants and spreading hateful ideology as a campaign punchline. One of them has professed to be a dictator on "day one"....and this is AFTER one of the worst four year terms in American history. That is a ludicrous, nonsensical argument. It's fiction. Do you really believe only one person shapes policy in America? We have these things called advisors. Cabinets. Joint Chiefs. Congress. We have a functioning democracy inside of a Constitutional Republic. For all of Biden's "age" and "senility".... he's presiding over a robust economy, with record job growth, on the heels of inheriting a disaster class out of the pandemic. Maybe you should actually watch a Trump campaign speech. We haven't even gotten to the litany of charges he's facing to even BE president. If you think that's a beacon of health, you probably should step outside for some fresh air.

Here's the guy you are claiming is in "better shape" describing how he "aced" a cognitive test commonly given to dementia patients. Here's the same guy confusing Nikki Haley for Nancy Pelosi on January 6th TONIGHT. And here's the same guy who can't even identify his own ex-wife in a photograph, confusing her for the woman he was found liable of sexual assaulting. This is not a serious argument. By the way, you know who is shaping Congressional policy right now? Donald Trump. Republicans won't pass a border legislation piece because Trump is negotiating and advising with the current Speaker of the House. Give me a break.

Good one, piggyback. You can buy an original idea, I promise. The perfect, expected response from you. Do you need a shovel to get Trump out of your head, or a bulldozer? You can rent them from Lowe's. Let me know since I get a discount from them. Because you're incapable of recognizing a genuinely flawed argument that's not created without both political bias and a flimsy framework. It makes no sense. There's no loophole, it's just wrong. Sometimes it's just wrong. When someone wants to insinuate or state that two things are equal in nature when they are CLEARLY not, that deserves to be pointed out. Pretty simple. You can keep your shovel to dig out of the hole you're in. You love to make the pointless argument that I'm obsessed with Trump, even though I don't post anything for over a month. Pretty asinine. No, sometimes it's just about calling BS when you see it. Bad faith arguments that don't recognize Trump's own behavior don't belong here. Again, pretty simple.
What in the wide world of hell are you talking about? You are nuttier than he is. Do you feign being clueless? There are dozens of “Biden falling down” videos on social media. There are also dozens of “Biden getting lost on stage” moments. I’m still waiting for the SNL skit. Trump all but ended the Republican primary race with a very convincing win in Iowa. He looks fairly energetic,
He's going to need that energy in prison.

Well, here we are, back to why I started this thread. For the first time in history, the probable candidates for the majority parties are very, very old. Both would be in their 80s were they to serve a second term. That's too old in my view, regardless of their merits as human beings. My own experience as a man 81 years old tells me that the rigors of being President are way beyond someone my age.

AzWm What are your thoughts on a convicted felon running the country?
