Yep, was saying that even before Lewis was hired. He gets a 5 year contract. I don't expect a winning season until season 3 but hopeful we see one in the second year. It isn't just what we see this recruiting year, Lewis has to change the image recruits have of SDSU. I have said that 5 wins next year would be a good year. Could he do better? Sure. The way his contract is written, he is here for 3 seasons at the least. Even the final two years someone has to pay SDSU $2M to hire him away. To be honest, I think JD got a deal with him, both in what he is getting paid (if we get into a better conference that does go up) plus what it takes to sign him away. I like the hire. I'm not a huge FB fan but I follow SDSU. I normally don't pay attention to FB recruiting and such but I am doing so now. I do think he brings an energy to the program that has been missed. Missed even when Rocky was here. I’m expecting something like what happened with Arizona with Jedd Fisch, depending on the transfers we get. U of A bought their team with NIL Money. Tetairoa MCMILLAN 5-Star (rivals) #12 HS player at Servite in the nation & his HS teammate QB 3-Star Noah FIFITA, Justin FLOWE 5-Star #8 in the Nation at Upland (UO transfer), Ephesians PRYSOCK 4-Star Bishop Alemany, Sterling Lane 4-Star Oaks Christian HS and the list goes on. These players could have went to big time schools but U of A NIL money turned that program around just like how they kept getting top basketball players.

U of A got T-Mac because Oregon's head coach at the time left & his HS teammates & buddies from the OC Buckeye days (Youth Football) were headed to U of A. It was more than Fifita coming from Servite. NIL money wasn't the factor as much as his relationship with his boyhood pals and the fact the coach he committed to at Oregon left.

Stop telling me not to complain. Can I whine and complain about you telling us we can or cannot complain or whine? I always thought that was Mandatory on this message board.😂

The infectious energy radiating from Coach Lewis and his youth, is going to improve recruiting significantly as well as play. AND I believe strongly that we'll have a very good year, winning season certainly. This is not a rebuild from a moribund program. It's revamping the miserable coaching and improving the talent already sitting on the bench. While I agree it’s not a rebuild of a moribund program, it’s hard to expect a winning season with so many players coming and going. Teams need time to build chemistry. Even the best coaches can’t create chemistry, that comes on its own. Perhaps that happens quickly but more likely not. I’d temper your expectations.

as per the UT SDSU has 19 players leaving - 11 starters but there could be a lot more enthusiasm with a new staff and guys coming in that really want the opportunity to show they can play .
Keys of course for the Offense quality QB and an OL and for the defense DL can not be as bad as it was last year

Stop telling me not to complain. Do you always complain when you get what you want?

The perspecacious advice is warranted, however, reflecting on the ramshackle condition of the MWC, we could be much more bouyant than the flotsam and jetsam we're fighting.

I don't know how good the past OL coaches were, but the lines seemed to be built more for size rather than talent. They were plodders for the most part. As for defense Lewis better hire a DC real soon. The exodus from that side may cause us to give up as many TDs as our offense earns. That would be like the see saw games during the Lugie years, which were exciting and disappointing at the same time.

A .500 season would be amazing but I don't expect it at all, especially at the ground level of a program rebuild. Anyone expecting a miracle should join a boxing club because they're going to want to punch something when their unrealistic expectations aren't being met.

Oldie Out What I'd like to see is an team that is organized on both sides of the ball. I want to see improvement in skills, blocking, tackling, catching the ball etc. I want to see steady growth and development over course of season. I would agree with the senior sage above that a 6-6 record would be amazing.

Unfortunately, players coming and going will be the norm from now on. Even if Lewis turns this program around we will still have players leave for the P4/2. Hopefully, though, Lewis creates something special here to mitigate that.

I hope people in here do not have unrealistic expectations for next year. Next year is about showing a foundation of building in the right direction, but we may very well have a losing record. The record will not determine whether lewis is a bad coach. This kind of turnover and lack of cohesion will be seen on the field. Did not have unrealistic expectations, but Saturday was my first in-person game since the UNR game last year and the Aztecs were shut out again. Is it too much to ask to see the Aztecs score more points than the Wave?

I think most of us understand the rebuilding nature of this season. Fan frustration stems from the sloppy play (ie, penalties) and strange play calling. We actually would have had a chance to win the Oregon State game with a little more discipline from the players and coaches.

I'd be far less upset if the Aztecs lost by 28 as a result of them trying to score late in the game instead of that attempt to run out the clock

Didn't make any sense in so many ways, and one them is if you're supposedly running an up tempo, dynamic offense, then don't play conservatively. Oh yeah, I forgot, his prized QB was hurt so he wanted to protect him so he just handed it off instead of getting the injured QB outta there and give someone else a shot. Not good.

I recall reading that Lewis' pass blocking scheme is a bit different than the classic scheme were the O-line stands up and starts blocking. In Lewis' scheme, there is a bit of drive blocking being used like with running plays. Someone can surely, and will surely, correct me if I'm wrong. Right now, we have just two games of game film to watch to fix issues. The more game film, the more teaching will occur IMHO. That's part of the reason why I think Lewis says it will be a season and a half before things are optimal.

Notice OSU coach go for win while up14-0 instead of running out the clock? He ran 4 consecutive run plays for 21 yards while starting on the Aztecs 42 and playing against a defense that had been on the field for 40 minutes.
