www.yahoo.com/sports/oregon-state-washington-state-looking-022049086.html“The agreement, expected to include a lucrative financial package for Mountain West members, is likely to feature a long-term commitment to the conference with an intent at a full merger beyond this two-year cycle. Part of the agreement includes a financial penalty that can be levied upon Oregon State and Washington State if the two programs attempt to acquire only a portion of MWC schools in the future.” Guess it will depend on how big that financial penalty is…

I guess the MWC schools that do get asked can all chip in.

The PAC would be Kliavkoff-stupid to accept such a restriction.

Nevarez is smart. She doesn’t want to leave those teams empty handed.

the penalty should be reasonable like each school left behind receive up to 1 years annual revenue from conference.

Exactly what I had heard… very unlikely the new P8/10 includes more than six MWC schools… It makes the most sense, you don't bring on members that dilute the pie. The long-term impact of taking 14 and having an average payout drop for illustrative purposes from $9M to $6M is insane. You would pay the buyouts of $17M or less, because in just 3-5 years you break even and make more long-term money. Hence, you bring on enough members to solidify the conference and no more unless they increase the pie. This isn't rocket science. What if the pie isn't as big as you think unless you have more schools? i.e. We think you're worth $4M/team regardless of smaller or larger conference.

Then everyone is worth the same amount and hence no one dilutes the pie. Do you believe that each member of the MW has the same value to a TV contract?

would guess that she has to put up something so it does not look as a cave in to the PAC 2 demands
Have they also talked about what would happen to OSU and WSU basketball ? for the next couple of years
If there are the tough penalties for leaving the MW for a new PAC - does that mean the PAC 2 are less likely to want to settle with the departing schools of the PAC - might need the larger amount of money .

I don't, but I also don't think the "media" leaders will slice and dice, but will have a bulldozer.

Anybody she invites will be a downgrade and will likely lower their media revenue. So having that cash is just a short term benefit. I doubt she'll stick around.
