At the beach in Carlsbad now, no flooding...rain steady but moderate. This was overhyped it appears. You may be right, but I think your analysis may be a bit premature.

Downpour in Poway. According to NOAA we just had .41 inches in 15 minutes. I figured it would come sooner or later.

We have had power all day. Could have been someone losing control of their car and taking out a transformer, or pole.

The main stuff isn't supposed to hit for another couple of hours... Good, I have a couple of hours to make right with God. Good to know. I hope I'm OK with Him. I've got to drive down to the airport from South Riverside Co. with my daughter to pickup my grandson who's flying back from Amsterdam today. Bad timing. To make it worse he's not getting in until after midnight. But, I can't let my daughter make that drive herself in this weather.

Weather channel is showing cars driving through 10" of water. Scary. I mean, damn. Scary. yes, saw that. Turns out to be mostly a benign storm, although unusual for August. The daily rain totals for some areas are way out of average. It is a bit embarrassing to see the overreaction by shoppers and social media posts..when compared to Maui. Now that is depressing. 1,000 still missing?? It will turn out to be the worst fire in US history.

My brother was a weather chaser, he could intuit how a storm would behave. It was amazing. He did it his whole life, until one day the storm didn't do what he and his pals knew it would, and a friend of his died.
Most of the people who die in extreme whether events don't heed warnings and/or behave recklessly.
There are exceptions, of course.

My place (not far from SDSU in Allied Gardens) has picked up 1.45 inches of rain since midnight (1.2 inches since 9 am). It seems like the backside of this storm has a bit more kick to it, with higher winds, and a longer period of heavier rain bands passing through.
Many of the mountain areas above desert locations have picked up 5 to 8.5 inches of rain--much of which will end up in the Coachella Valley and Borrego, on top of the rain those desert locations have had. Most of the San Diego metro area may get very lucky with this storm. Areas to the east? Not so much.

The amount of water being dropped in this area is no joke. we wont know the full extent of damage until this storm passes, but i suspected there much in the way of inconspicuous damage that wont be as obvious. for me, ive seen harder rain falls in San Diego, windier and louder. but the stats dont lie here, it NEVER rains in August here, this is a lot of rain in a very wide spread area, i suspect our friends in East County/Riverside county dont think this is embarrassing at all.
