Water temp was closer to 60 than 70 this morning. And no waves, this storm is having the opposite effect I had hoped for. I see it is down to 65.7 today. Ya, no it was closer to 62.

Ok, I admit I am an accounting and finance guy. Is cooler water better or worse for the storm? Does one or the other create a strong storm? Cooler water weekends hurricanes that tiny strip of coastal 65 degree water means nothing..the storm will use the 70-72 degree water you can see on Terrafin Satalite data creeping north of Guadalupe island...180 miles away...lucky its not that 78 degree water from 2015 / 2016.

The Weather Channel just forecasted up to "10" inches of rain for San Diego's mountains. That would devastate Mission Valley and the Snapdragon area, along with homes, roads, etc. Keep an close eye on this storm. It could be a serious problem and could cancel the upcoming game vs. Ohio depending on the amount of damage in the area. Take precaution and stay informed... I think the higher amounts of mountain rain will fall on the east (desert) side of the mountains, and that is where most of the runoff will go. Borrego (and many of the desert communities) could just get hammered by this storm.

This is the Area Forecast from the NWS San Diego at 10:38am: "We are talking about the potential for a highly impactful event, especially due to the risk of rare and life-threatening flash flooding across the mountains and deserts, with flash flooding potentially extending towards the coast and valleys as well. Now is the time to prepare, folks." The following are preliminary rainfall forecasts for our zones: Coast/Valleys: 2.00-3.00" Inland Empire: 2.50-4.00" Mountains: 6.00-10.00", local amounts to 12.00" Deserts: 3.00-7.00" Also mentions possibility of wind strong enough everywhere in the county to lift patio furniture, tornadoes, falling rocks, mudslides, downed trees, lightning strikes. forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=SGX&issuedby=SGX&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1

I definitely am not hoping for destruction in any way, shape, or form, but I am hoping for a good show (big gnarly wind driven waves crashing into the jetty would be cool). This thing will definitely weaken in the cooler water, and by the time it makes landfall will likely be a tropical storm, which can still pack quite a wallop. Everybody stay safe!

Ya, no it was closer to 62. Ok, I admit I am an accounting and finance guy. Is cooler water better or worse for the storm? Does one or the other create a strong storm? Hurricanes need a minimum of 80 degree water, any cooler than that will weaken them, the colder it is the faster they weaken. This is why you basically never see hurricanes hit So Cal, the water is too cold. La Jolla Cove water temp is currently 69-70 degrees, for reference. It will weaken as it comes closer for sure, but should still throw off quite a bit of rain. It could also make a sudden turn west or east as it gets closer.

Wil the canopies be ok?

This update says San Diego is likely in the path for "catastrophic" rainfall totals. If you haven't picked up your sandbags yet, now is the time to do it and protect your property. Most cities provide them for free... www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjZzu8YAq-I

mass warnings have gone out for the past couple of hours. the trajectory of the hurricane is following the models perfectly. only 1 of the projected paths misses San Diego.
