SDSU is in no position to "Pressure" the Pac 12. We are damn lucky all the dominoes have fallen in our favor to get this far, on the doorstep of a Pac 12 invite. The Pac 12 is working on their own time table and will get to SDSU when they can. I agree with the “we are lucky” to an extent… we also had a vision and executed it… and we will be one of the Top 5 P12 brands in 5 Years… so they are also lucky Agree SDSU’s put in the work too

"• I am told by sources that the Pac-12 had the potential media-rights partners model deals that included both San Diego State and SMU. No surprise there. I am told the conference “looked at every scenario” by a source in the room. The Pac-12 even asked potential partners for media models that involved UCLA." "How does the Pac-12 get north of the Big 12’s figure without USC and UCLA as part of the media package? I did some poking around with sources at media companies. Nobody I spoke with believes the Pac-12 can eclipse a $32 million-per-school average distribution without including both San Diego State and SMU." The DFW market has 2.96 million TV households. It would immediately become the Pac-12’s biggest television market. San Diego has 1.13 million television homes. It’s more comparable to Portland and Salt Lake City. The Pac-12 is losing 5.7 million TV homes in one unfortunate swoop with USC and UCLA leaving. Adding SMU and San Diego State helps replace that divot with a combined 4.1 million homes." "It sure has been quiet at SMU, hasn’t it? The Mustangs got a visit from Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff during basketball season. The visit went public. I’ve written a lot about this, but the conference was annoyed and blamed SMU’s side for the leak. Ultimately, I don’t think the Pac-12 seriously holds that against the Mustangs. I mean, the school brings nearly 3 million television homes to the table. That is a solid peace offering." Would the Pac-12 add San Diego State via expansion but not SMU? Maybe, but I find it increasingly unlikely. A source on campus at the Dallas-based institution told me the Pac-12 continued to engage with SMU after the Kliavkoff visit. Unless I am missing something, the media-rights range I keep hearing doesn’t work without the DFW television households included. Also, SMU is so intensely motivated to join that it would definitely join at a discount. As one well-placed source at SMU told me on Friday morning: “My sense continues to be that we will be included if they expand.” Please clarify who you are quoting in you post.

Do we have any leverage here? The reporting is that we’ve also been in discussion with the Big-12. Do we tell the PAC-12 we need an answer by June 29th or will accept and offer from the Big-12 (if that’s even a possibility). Yes Yes its a possibility? So we have a standing offer from the Big-12?

Anyone know when MM $ starts getting paid out. An earlier post mentioned something about $6,000,000 coming in soon. Could that maybe the reason for asking for an extension?

The MWC might want to play ball is they ever want to play football in so cal ever again. We are announcing we are leaving. That means the MWC knows that before one year before we go. Any damages to them from us telling them with less that a year left on the contract have been mitigated. They are free to explore expansion now, knowing we won't be there. If they want to play hardball they can, but it won't do anything but make them look terrible considering we are leaving them with some $11M in units we earned this year in MM. I'm going to tip my hat to Boise Aztec. He's been right all along. He's been quiet recently, I think because a lid was put on this deal by Apple.

Good answer, but not for the question I asked. My guess is SDSU is asking the MW if they will take a couple of million for 1 month rent in the MWC. It's pretty much guaranteed SDSU has documents from the PAC 12 sitting on the presidents desk, but they can't be formally signed until the PAC has their TV contract ink'd. SDSU is asking the MW for a 1 month "bridge" so everything with the PAC can be finalized. Sort for a 1 month rental extension until the new house is ready. I assume SDSU is hoping for good faith considering the massive stack of MM cash being handed to the MW, but I'm sure the MW will demand something.

You da man Boise!

We've given that notification. We are also leaving them $11m in MM credits. If they want to play hardball, they won't get a sniff from another team with hopes to elevate beyond the MWC. As I understand it, both Houston and Cincy were able to negotiate a smaller exit fee than was contracted.

I'm sure many of the remaining MWC teams will want to play us OOC and if they get s#!++y about it we'll have plenty of other options now.

It's times like this I wish you jabronis wouldn't have gotten so mad at the Fresno dude and got our realignment thread shut down by our overlord. Who amongst us doesn't wish we could see the meltdown in real time while simultaneously getting our thread over the 600 page mark I agree. I always thought that "He Who Shall Not be Named" was kind of fun to have around. I tried not to take it all too seriously.
