The lack of a true rival for SDSU is one reason that I think it’s been harder to muster consistent big time fan engagement, especially for football. There isn’t a game on the schedule that really excites fans and students no matter the record of either team. Fresno would probably be the best fit for that, and it has components in place, but let’s be real, there aren’t many casual fans, and even many loyal fans, who really care that much more about the Fresno game.

Fresno is closest but I agree they aren’t really a rival in my opinion.

I never felt Fresno State to be our natural rival. BYU felt like one when they were in the league but that ended. At one time Fresno State was a bitter rival of ours. Then somewhere in the mid-1960s Long Beach State over took Fresno's rival status. Things continued to evolve over later years.

Yeah, I don't care about Fresneck. For me BYU is the one team I love to see the Aztecs beat in any sport.

What are the rivalry game would they switch? All the others are perfect natural rivalries. We won’t have one in the PAC….Fresno St is our natural rival. Not that they will do it… but Utah and Colorado is not a rivalry… Utah and SDSU have some history and Colorado and SMU have some history… Umm, CU and SMU have never played each other in football to my knowledge.

I check one of their message boards, PonyFans.com, once in a while. They don't have the same insanity going on as we do, but at the same time they aren't as confident that they will get a P5 invite as we are. They think they have to win the AAC title outright in football to have any hope of getting an invite. I don't think that is true, and I believe they will get a Pac 12 invite when we do which could happen soon. Since the news came out yesterday that the Big 12 is looking at Memphis State, some of the SMU fans are miffed because a "JUCO" could get invited to a P5 conference before they do. Basically, they have the same opinion of Memphis State as we have of Fresno State....the JUCO up north of us. NOTE: It is the University of Memphis - Not Memphis State. On July 1, 1994, Memphis State University changed its name again, to the current University of Memphis. The Tigers sometimes wear basketball jerseys that say “MEMPHIS STATE” as an homage.

“Odds are projected and do not reflect any odds that may be available at legal betting sites or betting apps. “ Seems like easy money if you can find the line.

Yeah, I don't care about Fresneck. For me BYU is the one team I love to see the Aztecs beat in any sport. I used to root for them to get to the next level but if Yoda is indicative of their fanbase, they can rot in the MWC.

The MWC TV deal ends on the 25/26 season when the Aztecs leave, I am curious who fills the spot? And it's most likely not going to be from the AAC whose ESPN deal is twice the amount of the MWC. FBS TV contracts
Big Ten: $1 billion/year through 2030 (FOX, CBS, NBC) SEC: $811 million/year through 2034 (ESPN) Big 12: $380 million/year through 2031 (ESPN and FOX) Pac-12: $250 million/year through 2024 (ESPN, FOX) ACC: $240 million per year through 2036 (ESPN) AAC: $83.3 million/year through 2032 (ESPN) MWC: $45 million/year through 2026 (CBS and FOX)MAC: $8 million/year through 2023 (ESPN and CBS Sports) Sun Belt: $7 million/year through 2031 (ESPN) CUSA: $4.4 million/year through 2023 (ESPN, CBS Sports Network, NFL Network, Facebook, Stadium) Source: Media reports Each AAC program pays millions in covering its own production costs. It's not a good contract. The Mountain West Conference was formed in 1999 and currently has 12 Football members: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State (for now), San Jose State, Utah State, UNLV, and Wyoming. As of 2023, the new AAC will include: Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB, and UTSA who joined East Carolina, Memphis, Navy (football only), South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State (basketball and Olympic Sports only). The conference will officially be a 15-member conference but will compete as a 14-team league in football. The MWC as is has much better football schools than the new AAC. How much of the $83.3MM/year go to TV production costs? The MWC schools get around $4MM/yr, while the AAC at 14/15 nets out between $5MM to $6MM per year.

If Colorado leaves, then the PAC adds CSU. We are already in, likely SMU as well. However, CU isn't leaving.
