Alabama Fan Forum: "San Diego State won’t be easy as they the only team of the 8 in our top half of the bracket I thought can beat us as all the other teams don’t have enough scoring to stay with us. If we rebound well in that one we should be fine though." "SD State and Baylor are the two teams that concern me. If we can handle SD State's defense and win the turnover battle, we win by at least 10. If we have over 15 turnovers, we will be hard pressed to win." www.tidefans.com/forums/threads/bama-with-sweet-win-over-terps-postgame-thread.333124/Bama fans seem to like the Aztecs chances..... Bama fans know that if they don't at least bring their " B " game, they're chances of losing are great....If Bama brings its " A " game and we bring our " A " game....Bama wins! As they say..."That's why they play the game.".....

Off topic comment I had that didn't deserve creating a new thread. Alabama's rallying cry it "Roll Tide Roll." They are 200 miles from the nearest decent tide. We have real tides just down the street, so to speak, from our University. Just doesn't make sense to me. Hmm, I always thought Crimson Tide referenced a woman's menstruation cycle? Or is it the detergent? Is there a YouTube that shows how you can roll a tide? Lots of questions here...

It is entertaining to read the What can you tell me about San Diego St? thread on an Alabama board. One poster wants to make a big deal about what happened in Maui after the Arkansas game with two photos. Keshad Johnson's facial expresssion was priceless in the handshake line meaning SDSU doesn't back down. Another one calling SDSU classless fanbase and coach/ dirty team. What was classless was the arkansas coach signaling a L hand gesture to Aztecs fans at that game and telling them to GFY. SDSU fans had an obligation to respond verbally.

Who is created the nickname 'Crimson Tide'?Former Birmingham Age-Herald sports editor Hugh "Doc" Roberts is credited with giving Alabama its nickname, according to the University of Alabama athletics website. After watching Alabama and rival Auburn play to a 6-6 tie in Birmingham in November 1907, Roberts reportedly described the game as a "crimson tide" after Auburn was expected to win but Alabama played its rival to a draw in muddy conditions. The phrase "crimson tide" was a fairly common descriptor back then in regards to life or blood, often in the context of war or poetry.

I understand the history of the name. I was just being a little snarky about it. I do love that their mascot is an elephant because the Tuscaloosa.

I think of it as being a race to 60 points. Keep it as tight as possible for as long as possible, get hot at the right time, and the pressure on their shoulders will become heavy. This feels a lot like the game back in '14 against Kansas. Hopefully we get the same result.

Many would say impossible odds for us to beat Kansas in their house and yet ... If this year's NCAA Tournament has proved anything, it's that any thing can happen on the court between any two teams.

This could be more about the red tide rather than the Crimson tide.

I predict a grind out defense-minded game with the Tide, I just want it to be competitive...not a blow out.

It'll be a tough matchup for the Aztecs to pull off the upset they'll need to defend like they've been doing recently, rebound (which will be tough vs their length), limit turnovers and make 3s. This would be a good game for Seiko to have one of those 7-7 from 3 type of games. This will probably be the toughest matchup for the Aztecs in the entire tournament so if they can get through Bama the sky is the limit.

I think you have to consider going with a bigger lineup in this game to stop Miller. Bradley is not the greatest defender. Sliding Bradley to the 2 for stretches of the game would allow us to put Arop or Keshad on Miller. Running out Butler Bradley Arop Keshad Mensah for stretches would shut them down on offense and could help us fight them for rebounds. it would also let us save our guards legs, and we need them to have their legs underneath them at the end of the game, because in all likelihood we will be forced into some long 2's/3's by their defense.

The main key that is Bama's weakness is in creating extra FGA. Alabama is not in the top 200 of either turnover % on either end. They are a mediocre defensive rebounding team. Getting to the line, winning the TOV battle/rebounding battle is the key. Their other weakness is fouling a lot. All that being said even if that does happen Bama can still beat us, what is so scary about Bama is they do not need to play their A game, they have plenty of room for error. They have crazy length down low, while sears/quinerly aren't big they are good defenders and are good offensively as well. We are going to need to make threes as well.
As others have said regardless of the result against Bama the season has been very successful.

We need to hit our shots, play solid good D, and hope the game is close, and the basketball gods is on our side next Friday.
This is a match we win 2 to 3 times out of 10, in my opinion. Can we win, of course! Will we win? Not likely.
Anything can happen.
