I hate to see Soto exit with an oblique injury. I know it’s likely precautionary but if you follow baseball you know these injuries can be tricky and linger. Ugh! Hope he’s fine. And this preautionary move comes after the precautionary move (leg? calf?) earlier this spring. I kind of recall him having a dip after that Home Run Derby a few ASG's back. Those always seem to take a toll on at least one of the finalists. Hope it's not a lingering injury, either. Still. Soto @ 80% > the rest of MLB. Nola is a whole other story. Unless they think their 16 year old catcher is ready to be the latest incarnation of Joe Nuxall.

Aztecryan, I just wanted to get your opinion on our starting rotation to start the season. With concerns about Yu not being “built up” for opening day, Joe Musgrove’s injured toe, and Blake Snell usually being “first half” self, is there cause for concern? A buddy of mine that is a “die-hard” Padres fan keeps saying our starting rotation is in “shambles”. And that we NEED to make moves and fix our starting pitching. What you (all) think?

I'm not concerned, personally. The offense is good enough to carry the day, plus you still have a dynamic bullpen that will shorten games. I don't think Musgrove misses any significant time and Darvish should be able to go 5-6 innings within a few weeks. He's an elite preparation type pitcher who maintains his body very well. "Shambles" is a massive overreaction. The depth is significantly better than it was last year, it's just largely younger guys that may be asked to step up. I'm not worried at this point.

My buddy has much more knowledge about baseball than I do so I thought maybe I was the one “with my head in the sand” (as he keeps saying) lol

We're going to need some good offensive outputs to over come this, and we fortunately have a great offensive lineup. It's also fortunate that we have a very good bullpen. They will bail us out from time to time.

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Profar officially signed his one year deal with the Rockies for 7.75 Million. Not much more than what the Padres were going to give him, and he is no longer playing for a contender. He'll get more playing time, and very well could pad the stats at Coors Field and make more money in the long run. I wish him the best. He was a go getter for the Padres.

With the reduction in divisional games, you're going to get more games against really bad teams. You're adding a full season from Soto, who I think has an MVP year, and a near full season from Tatis. That doesn't even include Bogaerts or continued improvement from guys like Kim and Cronenworth. I think Kim unlocks another level offensively this season.

It looks like he's hitting for more power, like he was before he came to the Padres

Snell looked great today. Good sign. Only one walk in 6 innings with 6 k's.

I'll say it now. I think Jake Cronenworth is going to have very good/great year.

Looks like the roster is mostly set - Odor, Dahl and Azocar will make it. Decisions looming once Fernando returns and Engel gets healthy.

Simply a bench guy with some pop who can give relief to Kim when needed. He's not an integral part of the team. I doubt he makes the roster. Looks like he's making the roster. Very good Spring.

Matthews looks to be making it back into the BP, too. Not surprising, he's got lots of talent, just hasn't put it completely together yet. Time will tell. He's a year older and wiser.

Got rid of my tickets, as I didn't want to deal with rain and opening day. You know what happened next--with the change to a night game. No matter, as I will be there Friday and Sunday.
