Erik, if we're not created by God in his image, who wanted a family, then who created us? Who designed us, gave us eyes to see, organs to sustain us, etc? Do you know how complex our body parts are, and how incredible and complex our eyes are, for just one example, to be able see and to see in color, how they move, etc? Who/what created that? I haven't even mentioned how incredibly complex it is for the earth to survive and work. Yep. And it took BILLIONS of years for these things to develop. It didn't happen overnight. The big bang was just the beginning, not the entire process of creation. It started a process that was random, and the laws of physics took over, creating all that we know. Over billions of years. Only someone who is afraid needs a God to have done so with some kind of plan. Afraid of the unknown. Afraid of not having that father figure in the sky watching over us. I have no fear. Nature and the universe are amazing things. And if God designed man, then we should have had a recall for our backs, necks, knees, etc, because there are some serious design flaws there... We are not perfect creations. We are very flawed, as are most things in nature. That's what evolution is for - to move forward, and correct the flaws. We are not the endgame, either. And, to answer your question, no one, "Created us." This was all random chance. The laws of physics and nature at work. There's something comforting in knowing that. It's a lot more rational than an irrational, angry, vengeful, insecure, needy, narcissistic, cruel, sadistic God who sent tons of mixed messages. Oh, and who totally disappeared from the world several thousand years ago. He was personally involved, showing himself all the time, and then just said, "To hell with it. I'm done. Let them figure it out." Uh-huh. I don't need a God to be at peace. In fact, the primitive idea of God has led to a lot more anger, division, and war than anything else. Humanity should have moved on from that need and that belief hundreds of years ago, but the Church has a lot of power, as do the Islamic religious leaders. It's all about power and control. And when religious beliefs conflict, it leads to armed conflict and the deaths of thousands. Or, sometimes, millions. What makes your religion right and theirs wrong? They believe just as strongly as you do. Maybe moreso. The sad thing is they're all wrong, just like you are. There is no God. We're on our own. Time to suck it up, take responsibility, and do the right things for the right reasons, not because some made up God told us to.

Erik, are you someone who does not believe in War, period? The Nazis had to be stopped. As did the Japanese. War is the last resort when you're faced with an enemy like that, but in some cases a necessary action. Not all wars are necessary.

Here is the God of the Bible...
"The LORD...proclaimed the name of the LORD...The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty..." (Ex 34:5-7)
He created the heavens and earth, and made man in his image...
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Gen 1:1) "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Gen 1:27)
However, we rebel against God. Break His laws. We are enemies of God. Creatures of his wrath...
"The fool says in his heart, "There is not God." They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity: there is none who does good.
God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt. there is none who does good, not even one." (Ps 53:1-3)
We are 'dead in our trespasses and sins...by nature children of wrath.." Eph 2:1-3
What should God do with such people?
He sends his Son, his one and only Son (if you have children, you understand what that means and entails)
So how did we receive God's Son?
We hate him. "If the world hates you, know that is has hated me before it hated you." (Jn 15:18)
We don't want his rule..."We do not want this man to reign over us" (Lk 19:13)
We kill him..."I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him" But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, "This is the heir. Let us kill him, so the inheritance may be ours." And they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him...(LK 20:13-15)
What should God do with such people?
However, God did not send his Son to condemn the world, but to save it.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."
So that while we were yet "enemies of God we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son" (Rom 5:10)
Who was "delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification" (Rom 4:25)
That is the God of the Bible. Coming down to suffer death at the hands of his enemies so He can save them.

There was not a soul that believed in God at the time. Just like a father will have to punish his children, God did the same to his, no matter how harsh he needed to be. He has given us a path to follow to get to Heaven, and not many will follow that path. It is narrow.

John, trump says he is a Christian. Now there's a fine example of a man living a Christian life. Lying, grifting, cheating, raping scum of an individual. The "Christian" umbrella gets used by some of the most vile in our society. I judge individuals on their character and if I beleive what they are saying. I personally beleive you are a decent dude, based on your posts. However, I had a born again friend who was kind of a partner in a business. I was the holder of original ideas that were unique in the field. At one point he started taking my ideas and becoming the competition. His justification was that Jesus brought me to him, and it was ok to take my ideas for that reason. Never been burned by a friend in my life to that level. I have 10 times the ethics of Mr. "Christian".... as you can tell, I fall along the lines of Erik.. however, I judge individuals on their merits..and certainly don't beleive in heaven and hell..they both exist on earth. Now, if trump gets an aneurysm and loses all body function control, loses ability to speak..yet retains 100% cognition..I might have to re access.

Oh yes, there's definitely so called Christian's who are nothing more than a wolf in sheep's clothing. They give true Christian's a bad name. Christian's are often under a bigger microscope when it comes to character, since it's such a big part of who we are. So, they definitely get called out more often. I let God do the ultimate judging, but at the same time I believe in everything that the Bible says. You're a good guy, and because of what I believe in, I can only hope that you change your mind one day. That comes from a good place my friend.

Does it bother you if they don't? I assume its cause anybody who doesn't believe like you will go to hell. I know people who are the ultimates in their fields and have given society great gifts of knowledge and research. Others original music and other gifts..including incredible personal lives and ethics. I know many who have religious beliefs that don't match yours. who are incredible people. Its the judgement and the hollier than thou I dont like about born agains (and I've known a couple who I consider friends for over 50 years). Answer me this. I had a personal tragedy at 14 years old which led to incredible hardship and suffering as a teenager. Im lucky I survived those years and actually thrived in later years. Those years felt like hell to me. Why would your wonderful Jesus then send me (or anybody else) to join people like Hitler and Mouselini in hell?

Those years felt like hell to me. Why would your wonderful Jesus then send me (or anybody else) to join people like Hitler and Mouselini in hell? I want to say first and foremost that I'm very sorry for the tragic event that you endured at such a young age. You've obviously persevered and are doing very well now. That's awesome!!! Since I believe in Jesus/God and everything in the Bible, I believe that the only way for an eternal life in bliss is believing in Jesus Christ and that he died for our sins and was resurrected. We ALL have choices and free will, so everybody can choose whatever path they'd like to take and believe in. In the Bible it says that if you do not adhere to the belief in Jesus Christ you will go to Hell. That is not a place you want to go to. It's for eternity. I believe that God created us and the Universe and it's not asking much to in turn, believe in him and follow his commands. The reward is incredible. Jesus does not want anybody that does not want him. He will, at some point, turn away from a person after his heart becomes too hardened. A person can be the nicest, most incredible person on earth and not make it into Heaven. On the flip side, you can have someone like the Thief on the Cross who was a criminal and a very bad person, but at the last moment believed in Jesus who was being crucified right next to him, and is now in Heaven. God is the creator and this is his commands that we should follow. Most people do not want a blueprint that consists of giving up certain things that they do not want to give up, but are harmful. They want to be their own God, but you can't fix everything yourself. A person needs God to intervene. I'm certainly not someone who thinks they are holier than thou, but I do feel an obligation to share my beliefs. Also, there is a Devil and his demons on this earth and the thing he wants the most is for people to not believe and he'll go to all lengths to try and make sure a person does not accept Jesus into their lives. The Devil wants to take down as many people with him so they'll be in eternal torment just like him once he ends up in his final destination point, Hell.

re: thief on the cross. Yes, I remember a discussion with the guy who I had a falling out with. His point was that the guy (Manson family member) who cut the baby out of Sharon Tate, while she was still alive, had repented in prison and had accepted Jesus..so he was going to heaven. I can't go there. Agree to disagree. Thanks for the discussion John!

That is my view. I enjoyed our discussion as well. Thank God a person can be forgiven for every sin except for the one stated here. That's why Jesus sacrificed himself to tell us how we can get to Heaven and have eternal life. The worst of all people can change and be forgiven.

Hard to believe that people still believe this stuff in 2022 with ZERO physical evidence. All you've got is anecdotal stories written down 30+ years after the events supposedly happened, by people who heard the stories 3rd, 4th, or 5th hand.
All you've got is what an old book that is obviously a hodge-podge of plagiarized/stolen stories/ideas written in a primitive/superstitious time. You've literally got nothing else.
God and the Bible do NOT surive critical thinking. They just don't. Sorry. You believe it because someone you trusted told you it was true. You were not presented any conclusive evidence. It is literally blind faith, because there is no physical evidence of God's existence whatsoever.
And the fact that so many Christians think that the aboslute heinous, cruel, vile things that God did in the Bible are perfectly fine? Holy $#!+, Batman! That's IN-f******-SANE. There is no excuse for that kind of inhuman, monstrous, DEMONIC behavior that God engaged in. Thank DIO God is just a figment and most of the Bible is just fiction. Much of it sick, twisted fiction, but, thankfully, just fiction.

Issues were talked about and passed down from one another all the time and it was practiced that way for centuries. People were quite good at it that way. Most of the gospels we're written down anywhere from 30 to 70 years after Jesus death. That is not considered a long time in those days. Nobody wrote anything down in that era. Also, a lot of the Bible was written by people who had witnessed the events, first hand.

It's a prophecy about what Jesus will go through while here on earth. The torment, etc.... Isiah's prophecy was 700 years before it happened to Jesus. Astounding.

And, have you ever heard of the telephone game? Just in one sitting stories can change drastically. Imagine, if you will, 30 to 70 years of the telephone game. The stories are greatly exaggerated, and the actual origins of the stories really were just things that were misinterpreted, seen incorrectly, misunderstood, misheard, etc. Not reliable at all. You're brainwashed. You're part of the largest, most successful cult in history. Remember, I grew up in that cult. I was a churchgoer into my teens. But I saw how ridiculous it all was. I saw through it. Oh, well. It's just sad that in 2022, with all the scientific advancements we've made, that such a large percentage of our population believes in superstition as reality.

Actually, the reality is that YOU'VE been brainwashed by people you trust and the devil. Are you actually saying that you made up your mind about Jesus/God I your teens?? Your belief atheism is making more sense now, since you're taking the easy road, which one would do in their TEENS. In terms of you talking about the "telephone game",that's not how it went down during those times. It's widely known that that's obviously how they had to spread messages. You have said that you would be more inclined to believe in Jesus if Archaeologists proved the findings of items of those times. Well, Archaeologists HAVE stated that the scrolls that were found, and are verbatim to the same texts in the Bible, are authentic, as well as other findings during that time frame. Also, did you know that Archaeologists have also found evidence of the city of Nazareth and Roman Crucifixions, all of which Jesus has talked about in the Bible? Jewish and Roman historians have also mentioned Jesus in passages outside of Bible that have corroborated the New Testament. In particular, Historian Flavius Josephus who is considered the best historian of 1st Century Palestine, wrote about Pontius Pilate putting Jesus to death, and about James, the brother of the Messiah Jesus. Roman Senator and Historian Tacitus also talks about the Pilate putting Jesus to death by crucifixion. What's REALLY sad is that there's still people like you, although in the VERY low minority, who will believe in everything Science and harden their hearts so much at such an early age in their life. It's really too bad that you/they've been duped by "Man" and the devil.

Man, you really have been drinking the Kool-Aid. FYI - there is no Devil. There's no God, there is no Devil, there is no Heaven, and there is no Hell. Is there another dimension in which our consciousness can survive (the energy of our thoughts/brains, more or less)? Well, Neil Degrasse Tyson thinks it's possible, although he doesn't believe in it. That's not Heaven. That's a plane of existence that we cannot perceive because of our limited three dimensional senses. It could be real, it could be just a wild theory. But I know that God and the Devil and all that goes with that is fiction. Your scrolls don't prove anything when it comes to the existence of God or that Jesus was the Son of God. You're extrapolating that and taking a HUGE leap of faith. I don't believe in magic and superstition. Every year we learn more and more about physics and the universe around us, and every time we learn something we disprove prior superstitious beliefs. God is a superstitious belief. Wishful thinking. Well, the God of the Bible is actually a sick, tiwsted, sadistic asshole, so, I'm glad he's not real.

So, wait, because there is evidence that there were crucifictions that proves that Jesus was the Son of God? Well, the God of the Bible is actually a sick, tiwsted, sadistic asshole, so, I'm glad he's not real. Here's a couple of questions that I've asked you, but you have not answered. Why do you think they went to these lengths to show that they're is a Messiah? And, why did they choose Jesus Christ as that person? Back to your post. So, Neil Degrasse is your influencer. Ok. Lol. Whatever floats your boat. And, before you go saying that Degrasse is a very intelligent person, 8 out of 10 of the highest IQ's ever recorded believe in God, and 6 out of those 8 are Christians. So, there's that. I don't care what Degrasse says. Funny, I wonder how it is roughly 260 Million people believe in God in America, with roughly 82 percent of those being Christians and roughly only 60 million are Atheists or Agnostics. Now, who are the foolish ones?? You can go ahead and take the Doubting Thomas Route, although luckily Doubting Thomas was able to see Jesus in the flesh after his resurrection, and Jesus in let him put his fingers in his wounds to prove he was real. Hopefully you'll have a chance to so called, " Put your fingers in Jesus wounds" to prove to you that he's real, but I doubt it. Your heart may be too hardened, especially after the nasty words you decide to call God in your posts. That's where the Doubting Thomas phrase comes from. Jesus said to Thomas after he did this, and I LOVE this statement, "Because you have seen me, you believe." "Blessed are those who have not seen, and believed." I'm going to try to refrain from debating with you about Jesus/God since you're very disrespectful towards him and myself with the words you choose to call him. Someone Millions hold in the highest regard. To each his own, but I still pray for you.

Why do you think they went to these lengths to show that they're is a Messiah? And, why did they choose Jesus Christ as that person? Why did they choose Jesus? Because he said and did the right things? Because they heard stories and believed them? They lived in a very primitive and superstitious time. People believed a lot of riduclous, absurd stuff. We don't believe in those things today because we now know how ridiculous they were. Ultimately, they WANTED to believe that Jesus was the Son of God. They needed that hope in their otherwise miserable, painful lives. They lived in a very harsh, cruel world and desperately needed to believe in God and some kind of better life after death. They needed to believe that Jesus was their savior to get them to that better life after death. Without that hope they had nothing to live for.
