You've been through more than me? How old are you? I was a HUGE Chargers fan for decades, too. Ever since they hired Don Coryell in 1978! Losing that team really hurt, but Dean is a horrible owner. My first Padres game came in 1976 with Randy Jones pitching... Yep, before you. Been to Padre games since the early Seventies, and Charger games as well. I was in the end zone for the holy roller game against the Raiders. I go back to Enzo Hernandez, etc al. When Enzo would come up, the announcer would say, "Now batting, number 11 little Enzo, Hernandezzzzzz!!! Gene Locklear, Nate Colbert, all those guy's. So, yes, before your time. I go back to 1954 and Lane Field. Can still feel the rumble of the old wood stadium as fans would stomp their feet to start a rally. Later watched Rocky Colavito attempt to set the record throw from right field corner to left field corner. Right Field bleachers 50 cents, hot dogs a quarter, chasing foul balls off the top of the broadcast booth=priceless. Al Schuss calling home runs, “and there it gooooess!” I’m happy to say that yesterday was the best day in the history of my life as a Padre fan.

They beat the Astros, Dick Selma got the start. I was also there for the Ray Kroc takes the microphone game. Classic. I remember, Cito Gaston, Nate Colbert, Ollie Brown, Chris Cannizzaro, Ed Spezio, Clay Kirby, Joe Niekro, Billy McCool (there’s a great name) and Al Santorini on that first team. The field was so green and the crowds kind of sparse, many games under 12k. The Reds, Dodgers, Astros, Braves and Giants were in the NL West with the Padres. Back then expansion teams didn’t get squat in terms of talent, the Padres only had one team in it’s first 13 seasons finish over .500

I sat behind home plate with my young son and the players could hear our every word. I used to yell at Juan Eichelberger, "Hey Eichelberger, let's have another Juan, two, three inning!" I think he heard me, but that did not prevent him from having a ballooning ERA!

I remember one game - early on - though there were many, where the crowd was in the 2,000s - weeknight games vs Expos and a few other NL bottom feeders. Many more games had twice as many in attendance! LOL
I think I've been to some Aztec Baseball games that had more butts in seats than there were at some of those early Padres games. The stadium wasn't enclosed back then, however, so it wasn't as bad as it could've been once it was enclosed completely.

Yeah, I remember going to those Expos games, etc, and immediately going down to field level and sitting there with great seats. That was the perk.

Was listening to the 97.3 guys this morning on the way to work, missed the name of who they had on, but all three were confirming what Ryan has written ad nauseum: Hosmer was/is selfish, NOT a "team player" (regardless of what a single plant sportswriter has written) and dumping him, even with the price tag, is HUGE for the psychology of this team going forward. They then referenced Myers as the polar opposite, an actual team guy who has done EVERYTHING this team has asked of him, even though he has never lived up to his contact.
Good riddance, albatross!

Padres lost in 10 innings, 4-2.

Lamet claimed by the Rockies. Might be the worst fit in baseball.

Lamet claimed by the Rockies. Might be the worst fit in baseball. Honestly I'm not sure Lamet is ever the pitcher he once was unless he rolls the dice with a second TJ.

Buddy Black will fix him… count on it. If the Brewers didn't want to, the Rockies sure aren't going to.

We'll see, won't we.
Milwaukee doesn't have a great track record of late - particularly as it refers to keeping good talent on the roster…

We'll see, won't we. Milwaukee doesn't have a great track record of late - particularly as it refers to keeping good talent on the roster… Milwaukee has a tremendous track record of taking backend starters (and relievers) and turning them into absolute studs. They have a great pitching program. Unfortunately....they are tremendously cheap.
