My baseball takes are based on 46 years of suffering through horrile Padres teams or good Padres teams that couldn't get it done. That's a lot of sports PTSD... I hear you. I’m not going to hold Seidler accountable for any issues Ray Kroc or John Moores had. Clean slate. I'm just genuinely worried that they're overextending themselves and we're going to pay for it down the line. I don't want another 10 year run like the one we saw following the '98 team. Well, that was a 20 year run of garbage...

You've been through more than me? How old are you? I was a HUGE Chargers fan for decades, too. Ever since they hired Don Coryell in 1978! Losing that team really hurt, but Dean is a horrible owner. My first Padres game came in 1976 with Randy Jones pitching... Yep, before you. Been to Padre games since the early Seventies, and Charger games as well. I was in the end zone for the holy roller game against the Raiders. I go back to Enzo Hernandez, etc al. When Enzo would come up, the announcer would say, "Now batting, number 11 little Enzo, Hernandezzzzzz!!! Gene Locklear, Nate Colbert, all those guy's. So, yes, before your time. Man, if you're older than me that means you're OLD! Seriously, though, it sounds like you can relate to the mental beating that most of us San Diego sports fans have taken for the last half century.

The Padres now have their own “Murderers’ Row,” so how will Soto’s slugging not be at an elite level. I guess we are so used to being second fiddle to LA we can’t accept the fact that we can now match up agains the best and be just as likely as anyone to get a ring. Lineup (assuming Bell remains in the deal) Tatis, CF Machado, 3rd Base Soto, RF Bell, Ist Base Voit, DH Crone Zone,2nd Base Profar, LF Kim, SS Grisham, CF How does Soto NOT hit 50 hrs and drive in 110? Barring injury, he will be a monster. While I’m at - thank you Peter Seidler for being the best professional owner in San Diego history. And thank you AJ for being relentless. Hmm. I'm not sure that you stack them 1, 2, 3. Maybe Tatis 1, (Someone) 2, Soto 3, Machado 4, (Someone) 5, Bell 6. Then you have more consistency throughout the lineup. Also missing a Catcher

Absolutely!!! I get it. I try to stay positive, but the past disappointments do creep up in my head. Us long time San Diego fans have certainly been mentally beaten up for quite some time, and let down, A LOT.

I'm hearing the Padres are going to absorb most of Hosmer's salary, and Hosmer will start at first base for the Red Sox.

nothing is SILLY about trading the prospects that went. what is Silly is your glorification of Preller, and your over inflation of genius. Lets throw around silly more? lets maybe zero on what Silly is. You are a funny guy. This is a fair take on the biggest gamble in baseball since? i dont know when, Red Sox sold Babe Ruth? It will happen one way or the other. I wont lie, not an AJ fan, but he does draft like the devil himself. I cover prospects. Nobody loves prospects more than I do. Obsessively. I follow every game at every level. I love James Wood. Love him. I've been a Gore truther since he was drafted into Peoria. This is not a gamble. Juan Soto is a top three player in baseball. The team that gets the superstar wins this deal every single time. Juan Soto will be extended. He will definitely be signed to a long-term deal by someone--but I have my doubts it will be the Padres.

The only question was how much would the Padres have to eat. Yeah, I agree. I'm just saying that it looks like MOST of it, which to me sounds like just about all of it. In other words, A LOT.

The Dodgers have been well over the luxury tax threshold for the last 2 seasons, so they are going to have to get creative to get back under the tax.

Hosmer (and that $44M payday) had to be sacrificed to make roster room. I'm sure some players will miss his presence, while others won't care. Padres are starting a whole new season, basically. With Junior returning, the team that's out there in a week or two will be a whole different level of good than the team they've been up to this point … theoretically. If the deals pan out the way they should, AJP just became a Padres legend. If they don't … well we'll find out. Doggers come in a distant last. Joey Gallo… Wait, Joey Gallo is dead, I'm not Joey Gallo … I'm Joey Callo.

Well, according to you - the Padres don't have a future. I mean, it's a San Diego team -- they can't win, ever, right? Your baseball takes are horrendous. You are drastically undervaluing Juan Soto as a player, though of course it's the "batting average". My baseball takes are based on 46 years of suffering through horrile Padres teams or good Padres teams that couldn't get it done. That's a lot of sports PTSD... I'd say your Aztec takes are comparable...and for the same reason
