I think we should’ve tried to score at the end of the second OT, we put it all on the kickers shoulders without giving a good effort first. Honestly, Araiza has to make that kick. They set him up, he’s too good to miss that. Team and coach did exactly what you do in that situation, like him up for the win. He just didn’t execute, but he’s a GREAT kicker, won’t happen again. Great kickers make that field goal.....He may develop into one....but, right now, he isn't great!

I see that side of it and I agree that he should make that kick. I just didn't like that it had an "It's all on you" feel to it. Either way, we won and I still believe he's a good kicker.

so glad the Aztecs won, but this was one of the worse coached game I can remember. and I watched my first SDSU football game in 1959 when he Pendlton Marines played the Aztecs in the aztec bowl. time for an adult beverage. My first game was in 1958. Always like hearing from other old folks. I was at those Marine Corps games. just to play a little "do you remember". do you remember a Fresno game when Fresno was so far ahead at the half that they stayed on bench and watched the half time show? where's a clone of Brian Sipe when you need him?

This is where having your Kicker and Punter being the same person can cost you 9 punts, 5 or 6 kick offs, 3 FG attempts and then did you see him in on a few special teams tackles also. This may not seem like much but at that level being able to switch from position to position, finesse to physical and then bringing in the mental aspect of the kicking a walk off in OT is a lot to ask of a young guy.

Let’s just hope that was Matt’s worst game of the year. And we still won. Not so fast on Matt. TV guys said the snap was high. Maybe not entirely his fault.

Not that it would have mattered in this case, but I was yelling at my TV for Hoke to do the FG try on third down. That way you can survive a bad snap, fumble, etc.

As has been said before, give us either of their QB's and this game would have been a huge mismatch! I thought Utah's starting QB was mediocre.....I want nothing to do win him....His replacement was decent - largely because our undersized defense was on the field a lot and exhausted down the stretch. I thought our kids layed in all on the line....great effort, entertaining game between two evenly matched teams.... Matt looks like an All-American punter and a JC level field goal kicker.....Utah's kicker was equally inept..... Our defense played their hearts out and I thought Lucas managed the offense quite well....I love the running dimension he adds....Not sure Brookshire would have been any more successful tonight than Lucas.... Really happy for our players as they came out on the winning side tonight - in spite of the " try not to lose " strategy of our staff down the stretch. I hope our intensity vs. Nevada, Fresno, ect. matches that which was evident vs. Pac 12 competition....If so, the wins will pile up.... go aztecs! no question the coaches got the kids ready to play. i will give them credit for that.

After the game Coach Hoke said that they were trying to run the clock out late in the 3rd quarter, basically because they were up by two scores.
Apparently it didn't occur to him that Utah is a P5 school with a decent offense, and just one break, like, say, a fumble recovery, could turn the entire complexion of the game around.
We were lucky to get this win. I'm glad we won, but we really almost earned a loss here.

I wasn't a big fan of the play calling in the 2nd half but I understand it. The defense had only given up 3 points in 3 quarters and 10 minutes. I'm sure they were trying to get 1st downs running the ball, but they were leaning too much on their defense. Prevent offense is not a good look but we are out gaining the Air Force in passing yardage 101 to 93 yards per game! But we are winning, UGLY but still winning! That won’t last. There are 4 MWC teams better than UofA and Utah, and we play all 4 of them. A repeat of tonight would likely be a loss to any of them. You can love the win, you can love the kids and their effort and heart- which I absolutely do. And of course be happy for the win, which I am. But Hoke and Heck called plays like wimps most IOC the game, we only had 248 yards of offense in a triple OT game. The play calling is predictable and unimaginative. I’m not just talking about running all the time. Even the run calls were one note. No excuse to be this bad on O year after year. It’s much more than a glitch or off year. Much much more. The announcers were critical. They are every week, even though they’ve been different every game. So it’s not just so called “whiny” fans. Should be interesting the rest of the way.

Nice to win the game. However, it shouldn't have gone to OT. Just my opinion, of course. On an aside, we really need an QB that can do more than hand off. Pair that with this defense and we are a top 20 team. Just sayin'. We are probably a top 15 team, maybe even better. Our D is that good.

i guess now we know why brokeshire is the starter. Brookshire looked just as bad - maybe worse - in his first game. Johnson is a better runner than Brookshire. Not saying Johnson is better, just remember Brookshire has had - maybe - one B and half good quarters out of 8 quarters in 2 games. If Johnson starts next week, maybe he has a big improvement like Brookshire did. Listen, in all 3 games, we never give our QB a chance to get into any kind of passing rhythm. We typically pass on downs we have to pass. We have receivers that also don’t get a chance to get into any rhythm. It’s the same predictable run-run-run, mostly between the tackles every game for years.

Funny that the PAC Nobody doesn't want SDSU because we aren't as smart as they. Well they aren't as athletic as us either. Unfortunately, us beating P12 teams does nothing to make us more attractive to the Big 12. We just beat a very bad and a middle of the pack team. I think it’s great, but it doesn’t register even a blip nationally or to any P5 conference. What registers is often being a top 15-20 team, having a run of a few years where you’re top 10-12 and get to a couple NY6 bowls as the best or 2nd best G5 team. Then you need to have an inspiring win in that game - like Boise did, UCF did. Oh, look who got invited to the B12! That’s why us being a good MWC team, but never great is frustrating.
