Can you imagine (especially the old timers) Coryell or Gilbert trying to run out the clock starting in the third quarter? As the local paper at the time said once, "The night sky was raining footballs." score points Hoke, don't play not to lose. you almost did. Just ask North Dakota State, Southern Mississippi or New Mexico State in the record setting QB/Receiver game. Anyone who has to ask about those games needs to bone up on their Aztec Football history.
Don't forget Mexico Poly in the historical review.

Yes! I have another idea, we get a bunch of kids on bikes to get up really early in the morning and throw them on door steps... or bushes...every morning...every...morning.... I once threw one into a swimming pool. How was I supposed to know what was behind the wall?

If it goes into overtime Utah will win. LOL, I love reading the game thread after wins. I made that post just to improve your enjoyment of the game!

Don't forget Mexico Poly in the historical review. Lol. I can still Aztec lb Jeff Staggs throwing one of the Mexico Poly running backs about 20 yards out of bounds and up against the rock facade at Aztec Bowl, as if he had just stuffed Dick Bass for a 10 yard loss.

For an experienced RB - Bell should know to put both hands around the ball when you get stood up and they are going to try to strip the ball. Also think Bell knew or if it doubt get the ball as it was loose-so make a better effort to go after it .
As we saw this was a very close game . First half a defensive draw - just 2 TD's both on runbacks . We won the 3rd Q . They won the 4th Q . Would we have been able to finish Utah off if Bell had not lost the ball ? No clue but 21 point lead is a lot better then the 14 we had .
OT was mighty close - as our Defense was gassed- not much of a pass rush - younger guys in the Back 5 . Fortunately we did get the correct ruling on their 2 point play and we were able to execute ours- nice to see a little spice in our offense . Know Bryd has played QB in HS did Mathews ? Credit the OC with the call and the guys for the execution

I thought Johnson really propelled us in OT. He completed some very key passes once they let him throw on the run and once they opened it up more. He ran very well, and of course caught the game winner. He ran the offense very well, too.
Whether it's Brookshire, or Johnson, we'll be fine.

Don't forget Mexico Poly in the historical review. If you want go back 3 more years there was the Cal Poly SLO game ... 69-0. We had a very limited number of players back then I sure you remember. So, no kicking specialists. At the beginning of each season the coaches would have just about everyone on the team punt, kick off and attempt field goals. The best ones got the kicking jobs. Best did not necessarily mean good.
The 69 points scored against Cal Poly came from 10 touchdowns and 6 extra points if I remember correctly. After our last touchdown the score was 68-0. The student section was changing 'one more point, one more point." The song girls (all the cheer leaders were male) were chanting along with the crowd. Then one of the girls realized what the crowd was chanting for and immediately turned a bright shade of the school color, scarlet, and buried her face in her hands. It was a different time then.
Until a few years ago I always thought that happened against Mexico Poly, but the media guide says it wasn't.
