Over the course of 104 games played, 32 is no longer "recency bias". It's nearly one-third of all the games he's appeared in, and it also ignores the 100 ABs (another 26 games) in April. Right now the outlier, if there is one, appears to be June. We know he's not a power hitter - that's not changing, and expecting him to become one is a useless exercise. His salary is also a sunk cost. But what we do see from him is someone who's been excellent for the past 6 weeks or so, and that's what we need in our line-up. Until he falters, or reverts to his early June trends, it's good to have him in the line-up & hope he stays there on a regular basis. That's the problem...your first baseman cannot provide zero power. It destroys the rest of the profile, especially when you don't bring anything else to the table. You can't be a pure singles hitter at a position that requires at least some kind of extra base threat. He's a league average hitter, so that's just not something I feel compelled to celebrate? If you want to look at actual elite production - Manny Machado across the same exact timeframe : .353/.415/.672. 183 wRC+. 20 extra bases, including 9 home runs. His BABIP is 40 points lower than Hosmer's, too. Just about numbers here. I'm glad Hosmer's on a good run, team needs every ounce of offense it can get to beat these bad teams. Hosmer's not in Machado's league talent wise, but of course you'll use him to compare to Hosmer. We all get it. Hosmer will never live up to YOUR expectations no matter what he does, for a variety of your own personal reasons, etc...

Your so stuck on traditional definitions it's clouding your judgement. You do not NEED power from your 1B if you have power elsewhere in your line-up. LAD won the WS last year with their primary 1B hitting .197/.331/.389/720! The year before that the Nat's won with their primary 1B hitting .226/.276/.465/.741; worse if you include Zimmerman. Hosmer's .279/.343/.401/.744 & climbing is on par if not better than both. Our team OPS ranks 11th in all of baseball this season; our SLG 13th, and that's with our #1 power hitter on the sidelines for much of the season. You don't have to "celebrate" Hosmer's production, but you should at least open your eyes & get past your biases. He's not the one hurting us right now and of late he's even been earning his paycheck! Exactly. And, Ryan doesn't WANT to get it. It is, what it is.

You just lauded Eric Hosmer's talent one page ago, now it's suddenly not good enough? Lol. I'm using the PRODUCTION, John, as a comparison to measure the STATISTICS, John. *My* expectations are not relevant. He's a $20MM first baseman with virtually no power, the worst defense in the league and provides no value on the bases. That's how *value* is derived and contextualized. I get that you have a bizarre obsession with a league average first baseman, who had to go on a heater to get there...but this is just beyond a waste of energy. We can't just shuck the contract aside because that's that's the measuring stick we're left with, league average production isn't good enough. And that kinda solidifies the entire point: Considering he had to go on a month long streak to get to average, what has he been prior to?

You have to shout to the rafters whenever he does something noteworthy and then try to play off valid criticism with "bias" or "journalism" or whatever other silly storyline you want to pick to create the illusion that this isn't real. Unfortunately, it is. I'm not going to chime in every time he strikes out, or misplays a ball at first, or doesn't stretch towards a throw....because it's just a waste.

The one that's looking silly is you, for your obvious bias against the guy, and you won't convince at least some on here that you don't. Also, no bizarre obsession, that's in your head. I would love nothing more than to improve at any position we can, and I understand there's obviously better first baseman out there. I'm simply countering YOUR obsession with blasting him during a time that he's doing well. Ridiculous. Do you not know that MANY very good players have to get on a weeks/month long heaters to get to where they should be? Pham for one is an example, but he's struggling again. Not unusual Ryan. And, I don't constantly bring him up, but I just recently did since it was a valid thing to do so, and I responded to SDcoug as well after he commended Hosmer as well. You don't have the ability to think outside the box. You're stuck.

Do you think you're the only one finding ways to diminish his current hot streak, and here's the catch, the way you do? If there's more out there, then they would be wrong as well, and have an agenda.

Ryan, you can celebrate a hitting streak as a fan while also recognizing that he's overpaid for his production level. Those two things dont have to be mutually exclusive.

Exactly. The problem is, he doesn't like the guy, so he makes it personal. It's so obvious. Who wouldn't have a positive outlook on Hosmer at this point after over a month of good things from him. Not even one props to him. Only turning the positive into a negative spin. An example would be him giving props to Pham at every turn he could find and finding the positive out of it, but only giving negatives to Hosmer at every chance with zero props. It's obviously personal, but he'd like us to think otherwise. And, as I write this, Hosmer rips a double to keep his excellent consistency going as of late.

He doesn't hit for extra bases!! <sarcasm if missed> Another 2-fer game, bringing his stats since the all-star game up to .355/.444(!!)/.548/.993 in 21 games. Obviously that won't continue for another 21, but even an average Hosmer (.281/.345/.405/.750) the rest of the way wouldn't hurt us. Especially now that he's cleaned up his fielding. The argument used to be he had a negative WAR, which isn't the case any more. He's a plus, and someone who is definitely helping the team when on the field. Very easy to get excited about what he's doing right now! Now if we can get Pham back even an average Pham, and if Myers can follow-up on last night.....with a Nola....that's a long line-up!

Nola has been on fire!!! It's all about timing and hopefully we'll be firing on all cylinders to make sure we get the WC, or division title, and then on into the playoffs and the WS!!!

Acee had some stat (which I deleted unfortunately) that said something like 9 RBI in his last 9 ABs, and one of few in baseball who are averaging 1 RBI per every 4 ABs on the season. Something crazy that just screams "CLUTCH"! And to be fair, I believe Caratini is 3 for his last 10, or something like that? He's just not Nola offensively, but obviously I think we still see him every time Darvish & Musgrove are on the mound!!

Unfortunately, he followed it up with a blown play at first base - Snell didn't get to first in time, but Hosmer could've easily beaten the runner to the base. At least no harm was done.
Offense has once again gone AWOL. In a game where every run is going to matter, Pham pukes out with Myers at third.

We have two solid catchers, which is kind of ideal given the rigors of the position and the need for both to play in a significant number of games.

Hosmer took the position to toss it to Snell, but Snell didn't hustle over there, or got a late jump. By the time he noticed that Snell was late, he didn't have time to run over to first and get him. It was too late. Doesn't help that Hosmer isn't exactly fleet of foot. And, as I speak, Hosmer rips a double to the opposite field for his second hit of the day.
