Haven't watched much of them, besides Buddy Boeheim highlights.
Looks like they play a 6.5 man rotation - We're much deeper.
Boeheim is a 6'6" guard that doesn't scream shooter, but he gets wildly streaky and can go Jimmer at any given point. First and most important priority will be forcing someone else to beat us, which we have done incredibly effectively so far this year. He averages over 17ppg, but shoots just 43%/37%. Shoots free throws very well, but doesn't get there very often. I think we are more than capable of turning off his water, but as Buddy goes so goes Syracuse. Over his last five, he's scored 31 (against UVA), 27, 17, 26, and 12 (loss to Georgia St). I think Jordan is going to have to play a lot of the time on Boeheim, so it'll be important he stays out of foul trouble doing it. I could see quite a bit of Adam here as well.
Everyone hates a coaches son.
Beyond that...
Alan Griffin - 6'5" wing. One of the two offensive threats behind Boeheim. Averages 15ppg, 7rpg, 2apg, 1.3spg and almost 2bpg on 44%/37%. I don't know his game, but his stat line screams "he's a load". He does run hot and cold - over the last five going 3, 12, 22, 4, 26. I think we have to play Trey here, which is going to be a tough, tough matchup.
Quincy Gerrier - 6'7" 220 wing/post. The second offensive threat behind Boeheim. Averages 14ppg and 9rpg, and 1bpg on 50%/30%. He'll step back and take a three, but isn't really a stretch threat (something we can struggle with). This jumps off the page as the Matt Mitchell matchup - straight up, all day. Gerrier is foul prone - fouling out of 4 games this season already, and having 4 fouls in 6 more. If we can get him in foul trouble early with a combination of feeding Matt and guards/wings attacking the rim, their inside presence disappears. He might be the most consistent Orangedude though, scoring between 8 and 20 in all but five games this year - two were under and three were over.
Those three are the team. The rest of the rotation:
Marek Dolezaj - 6'10" 200 post. After the top 3, Dolezaj is the wildcard. He's rail thin, and Mensah should eat his lunch. I could even see Tomiac doing well here on the offensive boards. I have all the confidence in the world our Mensah/Tomiac combo can be effective here on the defensive end, but will need them to play assertively on offense. Dolezaj does not shoot the three, but is a very effective passer, averaging over 3 assists per game. He also averages 10ppg and 5rpg. He hasn't played well lately (6, 7, 0, 8, and 2 points last five), but has also had games of 18, 18, 19 and 20.
Joseph Girard is the last starter - 6'1" 195 guard. This is where we'll try to hide Gomez. Girard averages 9.5ppg, 3rpg and 3apg. Shoots it terribly at 35%/32%, though. Has not been in double figures in 11 out of his last 16 games, and has gone 4/21 from 3 in his last six games. Has had games of 19, 21, 21 and 23 - but much earlier in the season. Let's not let him get hot.
On the bench.
Kadari Richmond is the sixth man - a 6'5" 180, freshman forward. Averages 6ppg, 3rpg and 3apg, but is strong on the defensive end. Does not seem to have improved as the season has gone on.
Robert Braswell is the last man in the regular rotation, and I'm assuming (?) plays based on foul trouble - 6'7" wing. Averages are negligible, and has only played 10 minutes or more in 5 of the last 14 games.
They have a trio of big men that get scattered garbage time minutes (Hi, Frank Anselem!)
--
Using Bart Torvik's ratings system:
Syracuse has four players that are above average on offense (metric is an adjusted points above replacement): Boeheim (4.4) Gerrier (4.4) Dolezaj (3.8) Griffin (3.4)
For comparison, SDSU's top four on offense: Schakel (4.7) Mitchell (3.7) Gomez (2.3) Mensah (2.1)
--
According to KenPom team stats:
The Aztecs rank #44 in Adjusted Offense and #11 in Adjusted Defense.
The Orange rank #22 in Adjusted Offense and #89 in Adjusted Defense.
--
The opening line is SDSU -2.0, with an O/U of 137.5.
SDSU is +7,000 to win it all, and Syracuse is +25,000.

Good info. I have to say that 37 percent from behind the arc is pretty decent, though. Not Schakel material but legit.

If, Arop is available could he defend Boeheim? Or would he be used on the other two players?

damn ut. boheim seems like a solid dude. gave state praise. understands our team well. said he watched our games late at night. doesnt surpise me. But concerning the team had coivd issues early and our finally back hesltht as a team. makes breaking them down much more difficult. probably should look how they did in the tourney as an indicator. not doubt buddy is the key.

I am no fan of the Cuse, but the guy can flat out coach. They predominately run their zone and very infrequently change what they do on D for another team. The opposing team has to adjust to the Cuse. That is a feat in itself. Syracuse with a week to prepare is dangerous.

any thoughts on The Orange's zone not the typical Zone D that others play It’s a 2/3. What makes it unique is that it is not a change pace, it’s their one and only defense and executed by long athletic players. The misnomer is that you beat it it with shooters. That’s wrong. It’s penetration, either with lobs over the top, wing slashes, or the elbow / free throw entry. If the guards can feed Schackel and Mitchell at the free throw line, State has a good chance to win. It sounds easy, but with long athletic players who know where they are going to be attacked, it is easier said than done.
