heard some guys on the radio - the Orange Zone is more similar to a 2-1-2 zone - where they do defend the outside shooters - need to beat them by attacking the middle see if there are cracks/seems or dish out after hitting them in the middle Coach Dave said they have each coach looking at 5 or 6 Orange games and looking at the best way to break down their defense also ways to slow down their offense . Our coaches have usually done a good job of breaking down our opponents offense and defense then preparing a game plan .Of course key is getting our starters and reserves to execute the plans - listen and learn to be able to get the W It seems most teams try to shut down Jordan by shadowing him the whole game. Jordan's got one of the best catch-and-release shots I've seen since I started watching the Aztecs, and he will shoot right away if there's not a hand in his face. If you're Syracuse, how do you shut down a shooter like Jordan with a 2-1-2 zone? If you're San Diego State, how do you get Jordan open shots?

was interesting to see the shot tracker they had done on Jordan - seems he scores better on shots he takes from the center and right side of the court - they did not show if there some things he likes to do to get open . Would tend to think they will try to cover him any where he tries to go , same with T-Go and Matt . Force T-Go and Nathan to beat them

If Mensah is effective it will make this game a lot more winnable

We need to run, run, run, then run some more.
Our depth is our strength.
Win the transition game, win the game.

This ^^^^ We have to ensure we don’t get trapped into a game-flow similar to the Wyoming game. Thought that the Wyoming slow-poke, shorten the game, strategy on offense slowed down OUR offense. No matter what pace Syracuse plays, we need to run, play fast, move the ball, and win the transition game. Rinse and repeat.

Make sure Matt and/or Trey are holding the ball at the free throw line, crash Keshad/Arop/Matt (if Trey has it) from the wing while Jordan slides over from the top. Bottom corner of the zone has to decide between protecting against/respecting the cut or staying on Jordan (or Gomez) outside. There... easy game

If Mensah is effective it will make this game a lot more winnable I liked what I saw out of Mensah this last game. Hopefully, he continues being more aggressive. He'll have some chances on some lobs for dunks. That usually gets him going.

If we can get Schakel some minutes at the 2, I think it'll be money. Lot of talk on the SU board about how the Girard/Boeheim combo at the top of the 2-3 is terrible at closing out properly... i.e. together they are a liability.

In a way... then I'd want Schakel & T-GO in the game at the same time. It'll be even harder for them to maintain spacing to cover both shooters, opening up a soft spot at the free throw line for Mitchell or Mensah... plus give Pulliam or Bulter a little extra room for drives.

2-3 Zone doesn't allow for shadow play, Jordan should have some freedom to shoot. If Cuse is slow on the D TGo step back for 3 should be good.

One thing that's true about Jordan's game is that his catch and release technique gets net more often than not. When he has more time to get set, he's not always more successful unless it's from the corner. And if he has an open shot and takes too much time …
Moving the ball around - as they did really well early on in the season - may be the best way to beat the Orange Zone.

We need to run, run, run, then run some more. Our depth is our strength. Win the transition game, win the game. I agree like the others have said. Also, we need to run to try and prevent The Cuse from setting up that zone defense they are so well known for.

Actually a few TGo pull up 3's could go a long way in psyching out Syracuse!

TRANSITION. We start knocking down threes and get a few gimme layups in transition and we'll be in good shape. I firmly believe we can guard them, just gotta find ways to score. Pressing and getting them tired with our depth might be the key.

"San Diego State is, to me, like a 3 seed.... they really don't have a weakness..." -Jim "Sandbagger" Boeheim Honest to god, even we Aztec fans would not say that the Aztecs are a 3 seed. This makes me want the Aztecs to kick Cuse's ass even more.
