You have made a good case for the charge of insensitivity and meanness of the part of Rush Limbaugh. To be clear, I was not a huge fan of his. He was not a cult figure as far as I am concerned.
However, and this is a pretty important point, Pelosi, as Speaker of the House, has had FAR from power to affect the people of this country than Rush ever had. Rush did not prevent the election of Bill Clinton, Barrack Obama, and Joe Biden.
Nancy Pelosi for months single-handedly stopped passage of a bill designed to help millions of people suffering from the affects of Covid-19. Her reason for doing so was a political move to help her party win an election. I will not say more about her since to do so would definite be low road.
AzWm I'll wait for the outrage on Ted Cruz. Outrage? How about tomatoes and rotten eggs??

This discussion has left the topic. Perhaps the dialogue should be moved to a new thread entitled “inane and absurd lib policies/theories.”

Remembering someone for being an awful human being is not a vilification of someome's character, it's an admission of acknowledgement. Would you praise Adolf Hitler, for example? This whole narrative of "If someone dies we are forced to overlook their obvious poor qualities as a person" is nonsense. Condolences to his family on their loss. Ryan, my god! Hitler?? This is just the disappointing reaction, from someone whose intellect I respect, that is wrong with this country.
AzWm
Liberals love to use the word Hitler, and compare every far right leaning politician or person as a "Fascist" or "second coming of Hitler". It's so tired.

Wasn't making a comparison, like I said...twice. I was using a historical example to swat away the silliness of praising dead people because they are dead.

I wasn't necessarily painting you with that brush, bud.

He's just not a person I would like to glorify, knowing history, knowing the scope of things he did while on air. He's obviously *not* Hitler, but what he did was real, damaging and prejudicial.

Yeah, Rush could be inflammatory and say some pretty outrageous things. Wasn't he the guy who came on ESPN and embarrassed himself regarding Donovan McNabb and black QBs? He was a pioneer in the talk radio game, but he could certainly put his foot in his own mouth at times.

Unfortunately in today's society when you put your foot in your mouth, I see no easy mechanism for having a big foot shoved up your ass!!

I see an opportunity for Green Day to reprise their song about American Idiot. "Don't wanna be an American Douchebag!"
RIP Rush, but you're no American Hero!

Rush established and led a whole media sector (Conservative Talk Radio) for three decades and that achievement is huge. He started when almost all of the media was center left (save for a few news papers and magazines) and no one was giving voice to the right. His format encouraged similar political talk shows (radio, TV, Podcasts, etc) from all political perspectives. He was a polemic and threw shade on his political opposition on purpose. Many on the right and left (Jon Steward and Bill Maher, for example) followed suit and did exactly the same (review current events and blast the opposition with that info). I have read anti-Rush books like "Rush is a big fat idiot" and Franken could not seemingly differentiate between mockery/satire from statements offered as fact. Not that he was a perfect man (who is?) but the loyalty of his listeners is his real legacy. As a conservative, he rarely said anything new for me but I will give him credit on one occasion. The day that O.J. Simpson was arrested, he predicted that the subsequent trial was going to descend into claims of racism. I thought he was crazy at the time knowing how O.J. was a popular culture icon with everybody regardless of race. Perhaps Rush was more in tune with jury nullification and how it was just starting to be used at the time but he called it correctly nonetheless. With him gone, perhaps the left's cancel culture will redouble their efforts to try and silence conservative media starting with talk radio. They certainly couldn't do that when Rush was alive. If you do an audit there are way more right wing conservative radio host hacks than liberals. Medved, Monson and the multitude of conservative shills won't be silenced. JMO We saw this week that the "new" (see Progressive) Democrats in the House were self aware enough to know they didn't have the power to deny the right of free speech and press directly, so they urged commercial cable companies (who receive their benevolent Government oversight) to act as their proxies in the hopes for suppression of Conservative talk and news outlets on cable. Gives you a window into their totalitarian nature. Report news my way or be shut down. Of course, there are no concerns about the lies repeated on MSM that led to violence like "Hands Up, Don't Shoot", or for all the lies associated with the "Russia Hoax" that distracted the Government for 3+ years, or about the outright censorship and/or false reporting (it was Russian Disinfo ) on Hunter Biden's laptop with an effect that might have been determinative in the election. "Yawn" is it?

Not a peep from you on the bogus narrative from Tucker and friends? Fair and balanced....right?

Not a peep from you on the bogus narrative from Tucker and friends? Fair and balanced....right? Your Progressive Democrat Congress members are actually asking this question of the cable providers: "Are you planning to continue carrying Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN on U-verse, DirecTV, and AT&T TV both now and beyond any contract renewal date? If so, why?" Raise your hand if you are a true believer and think this is a good thing? If you hand is up, I think they are looking for volunteers to assist in raising the height of the barriers around the Capital and adding more razor wire to repel the Army of Northern Virginia should there be another Reichstag Fire. And it is not and has never been about Hunter and you know that.
