I happened to be curious what Alometer wrote, and wanted to read it just like all the other posts here. Aztec Panther can correct me if he remembers it differently but essentially what I said that to call this a coup requires that you don’t know what a coup is. There are at least two aspects to the events of the 6th that clearly make it not a coup with the most important being that a coup is the overthrowing of a leader of the government. On January 6, Joe Biden wasn’t a leader of anything and they certainly weren’t trying to overthrow Trump. You might be able to make a case for it being sedition but to call it a coup is clearly wrong. Aztec Panther said Trump did all of this to extend his term thinking that if no Electoral College votes were confirmed that Trump would just go on being President forever. I showed him that the 20th Amendment falsified that idea and if no Electoral College votes had been confirmed then Nancy Pelosi would have automatically become President at noon on January 20. As a bonus item, Aztec Panther keeps like to insist this was a preplanned assault where Trump told his fans to “fight like hell” and “be strong” before he sent them to march on the Capitol while conveniently omitting what Trump actually said to the crowd before they marched to the Capitol. Here is the full quote of what Trump told the crowd at his rally to do in his pre-planned assault to overthrow the US government. You want to get hung up on fine details of what is or isn't a coup, I am more concerned about an attempt to illegally take over the government by our sitting President. And I'll take the opinion of a 3 Administration National Security Advisor over yours ANY DAY...

Thanks for reposting it. I haven't delved into what Trump said exactly before the Capitol protest. I'm hearing different versions. I'll have to look for it myself. youtu.be/ht20eDYmLXU Skip to 2:36:34. You light the match, you can't ignore the fire, no matter the mental gymnastics the OP wants to create. Calling for peace while amplifying divisive and violent rhetoric, understanding full well the crowd contained Neo-Nazis and radical QAnon conspiracy theorists doesn't compute. Thanks, I'll listen to it.

Not a developmemt I expected, although I think this is McConnell attempting to get back the majority chair.

Not a developmemt I expected, although I think this is McConnell attempting to get back the majority chair. Remember that it could be a chance to derail Biden's first 100 days. The Senate is in recess until January 19. Any impeachment trial will take place during the time Biden is trying to get nominees through the Senate.

In order for that to happen all 100 Senators would need to agree. If there is a single Senator anywhere in the Senate, such as Ted Cruz, who objects then it doesn't happen. It isn't going to happen. An impeachment trial will take place during the Biden administration, but there has been rumors the Democrats will delay it for 3 1/2 months so it won't interfere with Biden's appointments.

Only requires McConnell's approval, which is why Schumer would enact it in the first place. As the House has enough votes now to impeach the president and more GOP representatives come along, McConnell will cave (I believe) and convene. Liz Cheney just supported impeachment, she's the #3 GOP member in the hierarchy.

I mean, let's just make the case simpler. This is another call to arms and another point-blank example.

I mean, let's just make the case simpler. This is another call to arms and another point-blank example. The true enemy of the people is too good at this. He muddies the water and does double speak to keep the public off balance. kinda like the Bannon theory of manipulation. Why is it people like me and countless others can see his game from 200 miles away...and others can't?

I mean, let's just make the case simpler. This is another call to arms and another point-blank example. Good grief! It's like he's just giving EVERYONE except those who support sedition and insurrection the middle finger! The arrogance is unbelievable. It's like he thinks he's entitled to the Presidency, regardless of what he does or what the voters say, so in his mind breaking the highest laws in the country doesn't matter - as long as he keeps his place in the White House. He has absolutely fractured the country. It's both sad and disturbing. And he's totally unrepentant. Scorched Earth. If he can't have it, he'll make sure it isn't worth having!

Multiple outlets are reporting that if Mitch McConnell supports conviction, the Senate has enough votes to convict Trump and remove him from office. It basically comes down to one man, again.

I said this on this forum ever since I started on here... it is so predictable...I could do it if all I cared about was money.

Here is the full quote of what Trump told the crowd at his rally to do in his pre-planned assault to overthrow the US government. Protestors wanted to hang Mike Pence, the Vice President and first in the line of succession for the presidency, from a noose outside the capital building. They were looking for Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives and second in the line of succession for the presidency, and had weapons and zip ties. Chuck Grassley, President pro tempore of the Senate and third in the line of succession, was in the capital building too. Mike Pompeo, who is fourth in the line of succession for the presidency as the president's highest cabinet member, is incredibly loyal to Trump. Line of succession is relevant because, let's say that Pence was able to somehow invoke the 25th while in the capital building. If Pence, Pelosi, and Grassley were then murdered by the domestic terrorists (they were all in the capital building when this domestic terrorist attack occurred), then Pompeo would be the acting president. He could then take executive branch actions to rule the country alongside Trump (basically as Trump's proxy). Trump wanted to incapacitate, coerce, and/or eliminate Pence and dissenters from Congress, so that Congress would certify him as the president. If Pence was killed, it would not have been possible for Trump to be removed by the 25th amendment - it has to be done by the VP. In the amendment text, if the VP dies, the President then nominates a VP that is to be approved by the House and Senate. Meaning of course, that the only way to remove Trump would be by impeachment in the House and conviction by the Senate. Which is not possible when the protestors have killed off the Democratic legislators and Republican dissenters. So, if Pence had been killed by the domestic terrorist mob of Trump supporters, and the domestic terrorists had held the legislators hostage, they could have forced them to certify Trump as the election winner (or they would kill legislators who refused). Explain to me again how that's not an attempted coup.

Show of hands...
When Trump fired (or forced the resignations of) key people in leadership positions at the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, NSA, and DHS in November (about 2 weeks after the election), how many of you saw some kind of violent act of insurrection coming?
When I read that he had done that I wondered, "Why this wholesale change, replacing seasoned pros with amateurs from his cabinet who worked on his campaign?" Putting unqualified people whose biggest qualifications for those jobs was being Trump loyalists in there was a huge red flag. I knew something was up. That's one of the first moves you make when you plan for a coup.
Fortunately, the 10 living Secretaries of Defense deflated his plans, and prevented any military activity supporting the coup. Unfortunately, the National Guard was kept away, so there was no strong defense for the Capitol for several hours. Connect the dots - the evidence is all there. It's not all circumstantial, either.
Read Fiona Hill's comments about it. She was one of Trump's key National Security Advisors (a job she also did for George W. Bush and Barack Obama). She's one of the biggest security experts in the world. She said, flat out, it was a coup attempt. Most of us knew that already, but it's amazing how many armchair quarterbacks think they know more than her.
